7/26: THE CONCERT BIZ TODAY

Concerts out there are hurting. Sure no artist is ever going to tell you this, but it is the truth. I get the calls everyday from promoters and agents looking for help selling shows big, medium and small. It’s a real issue out there right now. You may even go to a show and think it’s full, but in reality it’s not. That’s called “papering the house”, meaning giving tickets away in mass amounts just to have people in the room to make it look good, sell a T shirt or a beer. Now many have said sales are rough because “rock is dead”. However I do not believe that to be the case. In my view two words sums up the live music industry right now; OVER SATURATION. Simply put, bands are over touring to make up for the fact that almost nobody is making money on album sales. Used to be you toured to sell the album, which is where the money was made. Now it’s reverse. The album is almost the giveaway to promote a tour. But WAY too many bands are out there WAY too long, some hitting major markets three times in a year. I get they need to make money and don’t fault them, but it makes it less special when you can see a favorite band twice a year VS once every two. People simply can’t afford to pay to see all these shows and see a band so many times. As a result everyone is being more selective, and you are seeing more and more bands downsize venues, but still staying on the road. I also think peoples attention is in way too many places to make all these shows a priority. You can see in a second set lists online, audio, video, the mystique is gone. Of course the mega bands will always do okay, but don’t be fooled, the business is not what you think it is or what they project even for them. The days of a 50 city non stop US tour are rare. Bands find special events or festivals or co-headline because they can’t draw enough as a headline in arenas on their own, and those that can are charging way too much. Not sure where the solution lies but it’s something I see and hear about often. I truly do not think rock is dead, but I do think the touring world and peoples attention are so overwhelmed right now with too many options its hard to know what’s going on? Hope it works itself out because the live stage is where this music is best served, but it is an issue I hear about all the time behind the scenes. Look forward to reading your thoughts.

7/24: A NIGHT WITH ROB ZOMBIE BAND & PETER CRISS, MORE.

Had a great time last night at Mayhem Fest in NJ. Only made it in time to see Rob Zombie as I had some other stuff to deal with, but was cool to see so many I knew, both bands and fans. Was great to hang with Peter Criss most of the night! Peter lives in NJ near the venue and came as a guest of John 5 and the Zombie guys, who needless to say are huge fans. Peter was recovering from some hernia surgery but otherwise in great spirits and having a blast. Was really cool to see Rob give Peter such huge props from the stage during the show. Standing next to Peter when he did it you could tell how much it meant. I truly think Zombie’s show is the best theatrical rock show out there today. It gets bigger every time I see it and there is something always happening on stage! I tweeted some great photos with more to come on this site so please check my Twitter timeline. Zombie continues on Mayhem, then does some headline shows, then Rob will start work on his next film, a hockey movie on the Broadstreet Bullies. Peter Criss told me he has started to work on a rock solo album and was recently revisiting the material. No timetable for that but good to hear he still wants to do it. Great night and thanks to the entire Zombie crew for the amazing hospitality. For the second time Rob had me, Don & Jim on stage with him during his set and gave props to TMS. Just awesome!

Incredible response to the Winery Dogs album now out. It’s been awesome to be a small part of this but I only had the idea, THEY made an amazing album. Hope this band lasts for a long time and can’t wait to see them live when I host the first US show 8/3 in NYC.

Getting a ton of people asking about book signings for VOL 2 out 9/24 in their city. As much as I’d like to I just can’t get everywhere, but please note I will do signing events likely for more than a year after the books release when I can. Some of the first dates now on this site, just check earlier Trunk Report posts. Pre Order now on Amazon. Thanks!

Football season is near and I have a friend selling 2 NY Giants tickets and pre paid parking for the entire 10 game season. Seats are Upper end zone. If interested email me eddie@eddietrunk.com for details and put “Giants” in subject. Can’t wait for the season to start!

Playlists will be updated for the FM show soon on this site.

7/22: TMS S12 RECAP, MORE

Thanks to all for watching the latest season of TMS. Our final new episode of the season aired over the weekend with Buck from BOC & Kix. We did many new things, had a new set, and really did a relaunch of sorts of the show. Most of the reaction was very positive to many of the new things. We will all evaluate what did and didn’t work and continue to strive to improve the show. As always, VH1 has all final say as to what we do and when we do it. Hoping to hear a schedule on next tapings from them soon. Looking like taping late Oct with air dates toward end of the year. But nothing set yet and again, ALL decisions are the networks. The next few months will be replays of our 12 seasons and more than 100 episodes. So set those DVRs to record all episodes and catch up on what you may have missed. Thanks to all the guests and most of all you guys for watching TMS and our latest season of shows!

Also much about my rant on the term “Hair Metal” in the episode. 99% positive response to that which I appreciate. My feelings on it were all expressed in the rant. I have always tried to have all the genres of music I love treated with respect and it has always baffled me that some have no idea the negative history of this tag. Just a few episodes ago Jake E Lee expressed how he could not get work because he was considered “Hair Metal”. Kind of supports my point on how many view this tag as style over substance, which in many cases it is not. And for those pointing out I do a show on a satellite channel called “Hair Nation” I of course didn’t name it or ask to be on that channel (was on Boneyard for years before Sharon Osbourne removed me) and I call it TRUNK Nation when I am on. People can use whatever terms they want. This is simply my opinion and I think it helps raise the level of how the music is viewed to not have it referred to by it’s look, which everyone had in that decade. Just my 2 cents..

Saw the film The Conjuring yesterday. I enjoyed it. Not a fan of all the crazy over the top action films, 3D, IMAX, etc. This was just a good story and the theater was packed. Good to see people coming out for just good stories, which are my favorite films.

I’ll be live today 6-10P ET on SiriusXM 39 TRUNK Nation.

New Michael Monroe album sounds great. Loved the last one as well.

Hope to have all of the first leg of my book signing for VOL 2 announced here soon. Starts 9/24.

7/19: SLASH, WHITE LION, TMS FINALE, BOOK VOL 2 TOUR, MORE!

Hope everyone is staying cool. 5th straight day of 100 + temps here in NJ. Been busy on many fronts. Looking like Sept and Oct are going to be insane months for me on the road. Really excited about the book tour announced in my last post. Please note I will be adding more stops, but of course it is just not possible to get everywhere on the initial 2 weeks run of signings. I’ll be getting out there and signing for years for both books when I can. This initial run on the release is about getting to certain cities and book sellers. I’ll let you all in on something that’s pretty amazing; my first book a few years ago sold enough copies in it’s first two weeks to be a NY Times Best Seller. However it didn’t show up on the list because I signed in those first crucial weeks at sellers that didn’t report to the list. So this time I am hoping by doing stores in that initial week it will get me the coveted slot! After the initial 2 weeks or so, then I can do events anywhere and hope to do as much as I can. So THANK YOU all for the support on book one and for helping me maybe hit that goal for VOL 2. The book is out everywhere 9/24, pre orders now at Amazon. If you pre order ot buy in the first few weeks digital or physical you might help a schmuck from Jersey be a Best Seller this time around! Moore dates to come, pre order link on Amazon by just hitting the book banner on the home page. Thanks!

Final new TMS tomorrow night. Yes I agree the seasons are WAY to short! You are preaching to the choir friends! I want many of the same things you ask for, but I work for the network. Final new show features Steve and Brian from Kix, Buck from BOC. All first time guests. Glad to get a BOC member on as they are a pioneering band of the genre, and many have asked for Kix for a long time. Jake E Lee plays once again. You will also see my Rant about “Hair Bands” and my Origins in this final new show of the season. Sounding like next new tapings in LA in October. You will know when I know. Thanks for watching! MANY new things in this season and we of course listen to everyone on what works and doesn’t and will do our best to keep getting better.

Caught Slash and band Tuesday night in PA. Band sounded as good as ever and was great hanging with all the guys a bit. Slash even dedicated Welcome To The Jungle to me which was quite an honor (he knows how I love the hits..haha). He also showed me the trailer for his film Nothing To Fear which looks cool. After this run of touring Myles will start up with Alter Bridge and Slash will promote his film and start writing a new Conspirators album. Slash also told me he spoke with Lemmy and he was on the mend, which was great news! Always fun hanging and seeing the guys and honored Slash wrote the forward for my next book. Had some great rock geek talk as usual with Brent, Todd and Frank as well!

Went to see my old friend Mike Tramp of White Lion last night at Dingbatz in NJ. Mike is giving new meaning to solo acoustic literally driving himself around the US and playing solo with an acoustic only and no band or crew. I true rock warrior! I am asked countless times about Vito Bratta and if/when he wants to come back on any of my shows, like Mike, he is welcome. But as stated MANY times he is not active in music and hasn’t been in ages. I go WAY back with all the WL guys (as you will see in my next book) and all are welcome and close friends, but no reunion of any kind is remotely close at the moment.

Remember if in IL I am hosting Rocking The Farm and if in Kalamazoo I am hosting Ratt and more at Wings Stadium next month. Info on the banners on the site. Also hosting 3 shows with Motley in Sept in OK. PLEASE be sure to check Eddie Trunk Presents tab for all events and appearances. Hope to see you. May have a major new one to announce outside the US soon….

Speaking of major announcements, this is the 30th year of my radio show. To celebrate my 25th Judas Priest played a private concert for my audience. So VERY close to announcing a similar event for 30th soon. Like 5 years ago this will be a free event you must win to get in. More soon..

New stuff I’m liking: Michael Monroe, Scorpion Child, Queensryche (Latorre), Newsted, Monster Truck and many more

A ton of stuff going on and more to announce soon. Thank you as always for all the support. I am live on the radio tonight on Q104.3 NYC 11P-2A ET, listen free using the Iheartradio app or at www.q1043.com . Also live Monday 6-10P ET on SiriusXM channel 39. 7/13: TRAMP, BSR, CLUTCH, JAKE E LEE, APPEARANCES, TMS, MORE.

Had a great music loaded radio show last night on Q104 NYC. Even revived the Underground Classic which was fun. I’m aware playlists haven’t been updated here in a bit for my FM show but that is being worked on. It’s a formatting issue with the new site hope to have resolved soon. Making some tweaks to the design of the site you will slowly see start to take effect, so thanks for your patience. Remember all radio affiliates this weekend airing my show will hear a new interview with Slash. Here is the list of all the outlets, places and ways to hear the show this weekend for free! AA Members get it On Demand as usual.

I have huge history with the guys in White Lion (anyone see that 80’s photo of me and Vito in the studio I tweeted and FBed? Crazy!). Good to see Mike Tramp in the US doing some shows. He’s opening for Stryper tonight at BBs but can’t make it because I’m taking my kids to a Disney show at PNC. Hope to catch him this Thursday at Dingbatz in Clifton NJ. He is also performing tomorrow in Montclair NJ. Mike will be in studio with me this Monday for Eddie Trunk LIVE 6-10P ET on SiriusXM 39 TRUNK Nation. Will be great to see my old friend and swap some stories.

I’m coming to Oklahoma, MI and IL very soon to host some cool rock shows with Ratt, Motley and more. Please see details here for these and all shows I am affiliated with, many I also do appearances at:

https://eddietrunk.com/live-and-on-the-air/events/

Should also be announcing the first leg of my book tour for VOL 2 out 9/24 this coming week. NJ, NY, Milwaukee, W Hollywood all already announced, full list coming soon.

ALL NEW That Metal Show tonight at 11/10C on VH1C. Scott Gorham & Ricky Warwick of Black Star Riders/Thin Lizzy, Neil Fallon of Clutch at the guests. Plus we dial up my friend & neighbor Ben Weinman of The Dillinger Escape Plan on the Metal Modem. AND Jake E Lee plays! You saw him break his silence a few weeks ago, now he jams as our guest player!

Finally congrats to my good friend Mike Piazza on the birth of his son Marco! Mike will be part of the All Star events in NYC next week at Citi Field.
