CELEBRATING ITS 35TH ANNIVERSARY, DEF LEPPARD’S JOE ELLIOTT REMINISCES ABOUT THE BAND’S SECOND ALBUM, “HIGH N’ DRY”

Def Leppard’s second album, High N’ Dry, was released in 1981, and celebrated its 35th anniversary, this week.

Def Leppard frontman, Joe Elliott, says it was the album that helped forge their path to the top – and credits longtime producer Mutt Lange for his guidance through the studio sessions.

Elliott says, “35 years since the album was released – it doesn’t seem that long because our career is constantly evolving. It’s not like we split up for 10 years and then got back together. It’s one part of our story – it’s a building block in the whole process of what Def Leppard has become in 2016.

When you look back at it now, there are bits of it that hit and bits of it that missed. But generally speaking, as the second album, it was the start of where we were going to go.

We were open-minded and so happy to be working with a producer like Mutt Lange. He was like a teacher and we wanted to learn from him. He was this rock guru and we were prepared to get in the pit with him and wrestle it out.”

Elliott states that recording the album was “an enormous learning curve” and adds, “By the time we started doing Pyromania a year later, what we’d gone through recording High N’ Dry, it had sunk in and we’d realized it was worth all the effort.”

GUITARIST JOE PERRY COLLAPSES ONSTAGE IN BROOKLYN, NY

Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry reportedly collapsed during a concert with his side project, The Hollywood Vampires, in Coney Island, N.Y. on Sunday night, police sources said.

The 65-year-old rocker was playing alongside actor Johnny Depp and frontman Alice Cooper when he apparently went into cardiac arrest around 9:30 p.m, the sources said.

Perry was taken to Coney Island Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

Videos posted to social media showed him shredding on his guitar at the Ford Amphitheater at the Coney Island Boardwalk before he suddenly walked over behind a speaker and stumbled backstage.

Sources said he soon lost consciousness and police on the scene revived him.

“He had to sit on drum kit and then went behind a small wall and passed out,” a concertgoer wrote on Instagram, adding that “FDNY and NYPD carried him off quickly.”

People in the crowd told The New York Post the band was just two songs in when Perry collapsed.

“It was super quick. All of a sudden he just went down and then you can see EMTs everyone carrying him stage left,” said Danielle May, 31, of Manhattan. “They closed the bathrooms, everyone was frantic. [But the] show didn’t skip a beat.”

A clip posted by Instagram user @leeniepics shows them performing a cover of David Bowie’s classic Rebel, Rebel as EMTs carry the guitarist out on a stretcher.

At around 10 p.m., Cooper stopped playing and informed fans that Perry had not been feeling well.

“If you notice one of our brothers is not onstage with us, he was very sick before the show,” Cooper told the crowd, according to a Facebook user named AeroFANatic, who was at the concert.

The shock-rock legend took to Twitter after the show to update fans.

“Thanks to everyone asking about our brother @JoePerry. He is stable right now, with family & is under the best care,” Cooper said.

On Saturday, fans pointed out how Perry looked ill in a video posted to Facebook in which he promoted the concert at Coney Island.

“He looks like s***,” wrote Stephen Nicholas. “Wtf?”

Perry could be seen on Instagram warming up before taking the stage Sunday.

The Hollywood Vampires — a rock ‘n’ roll cover band which also consists of Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan and drummer Matt Sorum — were formed by Perry, Depp and Cooper in 2015.

Cooper had been an original member of the Hollywood Vampires drinking club, founded in the Roxy Hotel in 1972, and decided to name the group after it following a night of heavy drinking and jamming.

Fans and fellow rockers took to Twitter on Sunday night to send Perry well-wishes.

“Thoughts and prayers out to the great @JoePerry. Cmon man please be ok we love you love you love you!!!” tweeted former Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello.

“Sending nothing but good vibes,” wrote Twitter user @Im_Abe_Im. “He was revived but I hope everything turns out well for him.”

User @katielytle557 added, “Oh my god. Please let @JoePerry be okay. This is so scary I can’t stop crying.”

RAT PAK RECORDS SET TO RELEASE MICHAEL SWEET’S “ONE SIDED WAR” ON AUGUST 26TH

Stryper frontman Michael Sweet returns with his most intense solo release to date. One Sided War is Michael’s 7th studio solo album and is slated for release on August 26th via Rat Pak Records. Michael’s solo band is comprised of Whitesnake guitarist Joel Hoekstra, Evanescence drummer Will Hunt, bassist John O’Boyle and East Coast shred-master Ethan Brosh. The new album showcases a full plate of hard rock & classic metal riffs that Michael Sweet has come to be known for throughout his illustrious musical career. The album is available for pre-order at ratpakrecordsamerica.com/michaelsweet.

“Musically it’s my heaviest solo album. It’s not thrash metal but there are definitely some songs on there that will pop out at you. There are some songs that have a bit of the Iron Maiden/Dio feel to them, as well as some songs that have a little bit of a Van Halen influence to them. It’s a very guitar-oriented, hard rock/metal album with lots of melodies and hooks,” explains Michael Sweet.

The fast and furious opener Bizarre ignites the album’s pace with its lightning fast riffage, soaring vocals and blazing guitar solos. Tracks like Can’t Take This Life, One Sided War, Golden Age, I Am and Comfort Zone keep the metal fires ablaze, while tracks like Radio, One Way and You Make Me Wanna bring the hard rock vibe to the forefront. One Sided War features only one ballad, Who Am I?, a heartfelt, passionate song that reminds us of the softer side of Michael’s talents. Closing out the disc is a bonus track; it’s a different version of the song Can’t Take This Life, a duet with Michael and 16 year old up-and-coming female vocalist Moriah Formica. An EPK that talks about the CD and contains samples of Bizarre and Radio can be seen below.

The Track listing for One Sided War is:

1) Bizarre
2) One Sided War
3) Can’t Take This Life
4) Radio
5) Golden Age
6) Only You
7) I Am
8) Who Am I
9) You Make Me Wanna
10) Comfort Zone
11) One Way Up
12) Can’t Take This Life (*bonus track* featuring Moriah Formica)

GUITARIST ACE FREHLEY SAYS WORKING WITH HIS FORMER KISS BANDMATE, PAUL STANLEY, ON HIS COVERS ALBUM WAS, “A LOT OF FUN”

As previously reported, KISS frontman Paul Stanley appeared on his former bandmate, Ace Frehley’s covers album, Origins, Vol. 1. Stanley sings, and appears in the video of Free’s, Fire and Water.

Todd Van Luling of the Huffington Post caught up with Frehley, who was promoting his upcoming October performance at Rock Carnival in New Jersey, to discuss the reunion. Portions of the article appear below.

Frehley was happy that his partnership with Stanley made so many headlines. The two even got along more or less. “We’re both professionals and seasoned professionals at that, so the whole process [was] really painless and a lot of fun,” said Frehley. “I just said, ‘Bring a couple different outfits, I’m going to bring a couple different outfits.’ But you know, we’re usually on the same page.”

Of course, the reunion was still unexpected for Frehley. “I was really surprised how receptive Paul was,” admitted Frehley. “How great the process was and fun and just a pleasure working with him again…”

…“Well, [the founding KISS members are] not sort of brothers, they are brothers in rock ‘n’ roll,” said Frehley of how he still has love for his former band. “Me, Paul, Peter and Gene started something really special that’s endured to this day. Even though I’m not playing with the band at this time, it’s …” Frehley paused for a laugh and then continued, “It’s a rock n’ roll circus.”
