BON JOVI WINS 2018 ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME FAN VOTE

Bon Jovi have beat out Judas Priest, The Cars, Moody Blues and Dire Straits to win the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Fan Vote. Bon Jovi had 1,162,098 votes, followed by Moody Blues (947,726), Dire Straits (613,726), The Cars (552,707) and Judas Priest (538,467), reports blabbermouth.net.

According to the Hall’s rules, the five top vote-getters in the fan vote are put on a single ballot, which counts no more than a ballot submitted by one of the Hall’s 900 or so regular voters, consisting of artists, music historians and music industry insiders.

Since the Fan Vote was created, the top vote-getter that year (previously RUSH, KISS, STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN, CHICAGO, JOURNEY) has wound up being inducted into the Rock Hall.

Artists are eligible for the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame 25 years after the release of their first album or single. Criteria for inclusion includes “the influence and significance of the artist’s contributions to the development and perpetuation of rock and roll.”

The 2018 nominees had to release their first recording no later than 1992.

Despite being eligible for induction since 1999 — twenty-five years after the release of its first disc — KISS didn’t get its first nomination until 2009, and was finally inducted in 2014 and Deep Purple was eligible for the Rock Hall since 1993 but didn’t get inducted until last year.

The inductees for the Class Of 2018 will be announced on Wednesday, December 13 via the Rock Hall’s Facebook page.

The 2018 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction ceremony will be held April 14th in Cleveland, Ohio, and will air on HBO.

While I hope both Judas Priest and Bon Jovi get inducted, this result is no surprise. Bon Jovi got the popular vote from all the soccer moms, as I think many could have predicted. Sadly Priest’s result is indicative of how out of touch people are with heavy metal, as Priest was very significant in influencing this genre of music.

I’m a 48 year old male and still crank up New Jersey from time to time. They were obviously some pretty boys, but they still made hella fun music.

While it did not surprise me that Priest did not win the fan vote – what did surprise me was that they weren’t even close to Moody Blues (Moody Blues…??? Nights in White Satin Moody Blues…???).

Even The Cars were way off in the distance. I’ve never cared for this ‘HOF’, and this should tell the ‘Metalheads’ that this HOF isn’t for them/us.

I have never been a big fan of Bon Jovi. I do like a few of their songs, but overall they just never clicked with me. That being said, you have to admire their success and longevity. As far as the HOF voting is concerned, I’m actually pretty satisfied. Moody Blues aren’t my cup of tea, but you can’t deny their longevity and influence. Dire Straits are a great band with first rate musicianship. The Cars wrote very catchy tunes, were very good musicians, and were also hugely successful. And Judas Priest – what more can be said? They only influenced the whole genre of 80’s metal musicians, sold millions of records, and are still releasing new music and touring to this day! Of these five, of course I would prefer Judas Priest to win. But, I think the fan vote actually selected some solid choices.

I don’t care about the dumb poll or the Hall of Fame…it’s the tyranny of the majority vs. the tyranny of the minority….for my money, Point of Entry and Defenders of the Faith are the two most original metal albums ever created…and this is a good 10 – 15 years after metal surfaced on the planet…then you have British Steel and Screaming for Vengeance, which were groundbreaking and commercial at the same time…..I mean, never mind, the system here has failed, and Priest’s absence is the substantial proof.

Someone deleted my previous post. Weak.
It wasn’t even that harsh of a cap on the soccer mom band aka Bon Jovi either.

P.S.-While I’m here,………c’mon Eddie, you ain’t got That Metal Show back on the air yet?????
We all love that show/you guys. TMZ did a nice job of balancing the content so it wasn’t continual BIG HAIR each and every week. Thanks Eddie, now please hurry.

      Hi Rynne,

FYI, I checked, and no one deleted your post. So, maybe there was a glitch because it is not appearing anywhere on the site. Odd…
