SULLY ERNA TO PERFORM SOLO SHOWS FEATURING SONGS FROM HIS CAREER INCLUDING AVALON AND GODSMACK

sullyerna

Sully Erna, best known as vocalist and songwriter for the multi-platinum rock band, Godsmack, has announced six solo shows in the Northeast, kicking off at House of Blues in Atlantic City on March 22nd.

The live shows will feature songs over the span of Erna’s career, including those with Godsmack and his solo debut, Avalon. The seeds for Avalon were planted back when Erna was pre-Godsmack, discovering Australian world fusion band Dead Can Dance’s 1993 album Into the Labyrinth. Their “eclectic, mystical, hand drumming” approach filtered into Godsmack hits like Voodoo and Serenity. From there, an organic process of assembling the right musicians began. Erna recruited Dead Can Dance percussionist Niall Gregory and long time friend and blues vocalist Lisa Guyer, who introduced the guitarists, that lead to a keyboardist and cellists that would fill out Avalon’s diverse sound.

Sully recently released a limited edition Avalon box set that contains 5 DVDs, including Avalon Live, shot in his hometown of Boston at The Wilbur Theater. The box also contains 2 CDs – Avalon, the studio album, and Avalon Live, the live show from Boston. Other items include a limited edition coffee table book, an updated version of Sully’s personal memoir, The Paths We Choose, a limited edition autographed poster from the Wilbur show and a limited edition t-shirt, a Sully Erna hat and necklace, commemorative backstage pass from the 2010 tour, a guitar pick, and custom hand-made incense chosen by Sully. Five “golden tickets” will be hidden in the boxes that offer grand prize luxury trips with Erna himself to Napa, Boston, New York, Las Vegas, and Avalon/Catalina Island. Many more amazing prizes such as guitars and handwritten lyrics can also be won with no purchase required. Register now at www.sullyernaavalon.com.

Avalon Live, the concert from The Wilbur Theatre in Boston will air on Palladia Wednesday January 30th (check local listings). A single disc version in Standard and Blu-Ray of the concert is also available at www.sullyernaavalon.com.

JASON NEWSTED’S “SOLDIERHEAD” VIDEO AVAILABLE FOR VIEWING

JasonNewsted

AOL’s Noisecreep is premiering the video for Jason Newsted’s song, Soldierhead, the lead off track off his brand new Metal EP. View it below.

“The lyrics for Soldierhead deal with what I would imagine would go through the head of a soldier in the middle of the desert in the Middle East, with bombs going off everywhere around them. It’s horror,” Jason Newsted tells Noisecreep.

Soldierhead is a tribute to the many men and women of the military that the former Metallica bassist has had the pleasure of meeting throughout his career. “We played 40 to 50 countries when I was in Metallica, and I learned a lot about how the world really is. We live like kings and queens in America, getting whatever we want 24 hours a day. It’s just not like that in other countries. These soldiers are out there risking their lives so that we can have the freedoms we do in America. I just want all of them to know how appreciative we are of them and for what they do for us.”

L.A. GUNS POST VIDEO FOR “REQUIEM (HOLLYWOOD FOREVER)” ONLINE

laguns2013

L.A. Guns have released a music video for the song Requiem (Hollywood Forever), from their upcoming DVD/CD release Live In Concert and 2012 studio album Hollywood Forever. View it below.

Live In Concert is a magnificent DVD capturing the recently resurgent golden boys of Hollywood glam metal, and includes a bonus audio CD. The package, scheduled for release on February 12th through Deadline/Cleopatra, features an epic full length concert performance professionally filmed in digital video with multiple cameras at last year’s M3 Rock Festival in Columbia, Maryland. Also included is a behind-the-scenes look into the making of the band’s most recent studio album, the massively popular Hollywood Forever.

The Requiem (Hollywood Forever) video features guitarist Stacey Blades, who recently left the band due to “extenuating circumstances and musical differences.” Stepping into Blades’shoes will be Frankie Wilsey, best known for his work with the Sea Hags and Stephen Pearcy/Arcade.

“L.A. Guns are delighted to announce the new guitarist is our old friend Frankie Wilsey, who we first met back in 2007 when he was playing in Stephen Pearcy’s band, Arcade, on the Rock Never Stops tour,” said the band in a statement. “Frankie spent more time on our bus than his own, impressing us with hours of classic bootleg videos from the ’70s and ’80s. He was clearly a rock aficionado, truly a scholar and a gentleman. Frankie’s been playing guitar since 1977. He formed his first band, Head On, in San Francisco in ’81 and then went on to form the hometown Bay area champions Sea Hags in ’88. He moved to Los Angeles in the early ’90s, where he teamed up with Stephen Pearcy of Ratt and Fred Coury of Cinderella to form Arcade. In addition to lots of sessions in Los Angeles, Frankie recently toured with legendary singer John Waite and also had a residency in Las Vegas as Joe Perry in the definitive Aerosmith tribute band, Aeromsmith. Frankie joins the band with Guns blazing, ready to tour the world and get involved in writing and recording new original material.”

Frankie says, “I met Phil (Lewis) and Steve (Riley) years ago, traveling down this road. Found out they’re blessed with classic rock style and a road warrior ethic that is rare in this weakling world of music. I have to say, I think this is a very good match up. Let’s hope the fans feel the same.”

L.A. Guns began searching for a new guitarist when Stacey Blades announced he was leaving the band in early December. “This isn’t an easy announcement but as of this month I will no longer be playing guitar for L.A. Guns,” said Blades at the time. “I dearly wish Phil, Scotty and Steve much continued success. It’s been a crazy ten year ride filled with some amazing tours, albums and memories to last a lifetime! Due to extenuating circumstances and musical differences I have decided not to continue with the band. L.A. Guns was a dream come true but life is full of new beginnings and journeys. I will be taking some time off and have some different things lined up that I will share with you in the near future. I would like to first and foremost thank the fans for allowing me into your hearts! You guys Rule!! Hope to see you all soon!”

ANTHRAX’S “ANTHEMS” EP TO BE RELEASED ON MARCH 19TH

anthraxanthems

Anthems, Anthrax’s long-awaited, eight-track EP that pays tribute to the classic songs by some of Anthrax’s favorite bands from the 1970s, will be released in North America on March 19th (MRI/Megaforce), and on March 22nd in Europe (Nuclear Blast).

Anthems‘ track listing features Rush’s Anthem, Thin Lizzy’s Jailbreak, TNT by AC/DC, Boston’s Smokin’, Big Eyes by Cheap Trick, Journey’s Keep on Runnin,” as well as the album version and a special remix of Anthrax’s Crawl from the band’s critically-acclaimed 2011 album Worship Music.

Said the band’s vocalist Joey Belladonna, “These are all bands I grew up with and have listened to forever. It’s just great music. I had fun singing these songs and I was happy recording together with Anthrax, doing classic rock songs. Fun stuff!”

On Boston’s Smokin’, Anthrax brought in a special guest to play keyboards – Fred Mandel, who has played with Alice Cooper, Queen, Elton John, Cheap Trick, Supertramp and on Pink Floyd’s The Wall. About the track, drummer Charlie Benante said, “If ever there were a perfect first album, it’s Boston’s first album. The harmony leads they did would later be heard by Iron Maiden, which of course would lead to thrash metal.”

The EP will be available on CD as well as digitally via iTunes and other online retailers. In addition to Anthems‘ cover art, Benante and artist Stephen Thompson have subtly redesigned each track’s original album cover art to “Anthrax” it. The Anthems EP will first be housed in one of the “re-imagined” digipak covers, and then inserted inside the main CD cover sleeve. The main cover sleeve has been designed in such a way so fans will be able to see which one of the six “re-imagined” covers is inside.

Anthems was produced by Anthrax, Jay Ruston and former guitarist Rob Caggiano, and recorded for the most part throughout 2012 literally all over the world: at Benante’s home studio, in Ruston’s New York studio, on the band’s tour bus while on last summer’s Mayhem Tour, in hotel rooms, and backstage at their Berlin show last December.

The Grammy-nominated Anthrax – Belladonna, Benate/drums, Scott Ian/guitar and Frank Bello/bass – will hit the road in support Anthems on February 16th with dates in India and Australia, and then return to North America to headline the Metal Alliance Tour that begins on March 22nd. For all of these dates, Anthrax will be joined by Shadows Fall guitarist Jon Donais.

Screen-Shot-2012-12-19-at-12.24.58-PMRevolver and Guitar World magazines have announced the 2nd annual Rock & Roll Roast.

This year’s honoree is none other than Dee Snider, who was recently named one of the 100 greatest living rock stars by Revolver magazine.

The event, which is sponsored by Epiphone and Monster Energy Drink, will take place at The Grove in Anaheim, California, January 24 during 2013 Winter NAMM weekend. However, unlike the rest of NAMM, the Roast is open to the public, and it also will air live on AXS TV at midnight ET (9 p.m. PT).

Says Rock & Roll Roast Executive Producer Josh Bernstein: “They say you only roast the ones you love, but with Dee Snider, we’ll be making an exception.”

Never setting his limits, Snider has taken on the role of film producer, actor, voiceover artist, political advocate and, most recently, Broadway star with his run in the hit musical Rock of Ages. His autobiography, Shut Up and Give Me the Mic, was released in the summer of 2012, and Dee returns to the small screen in March 2013 as part of the cast of All-Star Celebrity Apprentice.
