Gene, this is a crap thing to do to your fans. I actually was thinking of going to the Anaheim show, but now I’m reconsidering it. You don’t need my ticket money, and I don’t need to see you.
I have never, and will never, pay to meet any musician or any celebrity. IMO, to pay does not make it “genuine”. Whatever happened to meeting musicians at Tower Records or similar stores? Whatever happened to meeting musicians at the venues? Now we have “meet and greets” and this Gene $immon$ nonsense. It’s ridiculous, particularly if the musician has a fat wallet.
I have met Willie Buchanon and Louie Kelcher (both San Diego Charger defensive greats), the band WASP, and Bobby Marks (drummer for Steeler). That’s the extent of my history of meeting people I consider “celebrities”…..and it didn’t cost me anything!
Back in 1995 at the Kiss Konvention in Monroeville, PA, I was browsing all the cool stuff. Standing alone looking at some memorabilia was Eric Singer. He is a short little fellow. I walked up to him, introduced myself and shook his hand. I had brought my Revenge cd hoping to get it signed by the band. I realized I didn’t have a pen on me and had left it in the car. Shockingly, nobody around had one either! I told Eric I really wanted his autograph and understood if he couldn’t wait for me to run back to my car to fetch a pen. It was a 10 minute walk one way. He pointed to a curtain and said if he wasn’t in sight to ask for security to get him behind the curtain. Sure enough he kept his word when I returned. FOR FREE! For $100, I got to see a cool Konvention, see an unplugged 2 hour show from the band, got a free ESP t-shirt handed to me personally by Bruce Kulick, see a Q&A session with the band, got a program and laminated pass. Also had the chance to get Paul & Gene’s autograph but they were standing on a platform and were swarmed with people which I didn’t feel like messing with. Those were the days.
Well said @Rattlehead.
$ 125 per ticket for GA floor in Anaheim?….no thanks
I don’t knock Gene for offering this ridiculous “opportunity”/scheme to be his assistant. There will be more than one super-wealthy KISS fanatic who will be thrilled to pay 12 grand to be assistant/roadie for the day. In fact, my only question to Gene is: Why didn’t you charge $20,000? (because there are people who will pay that too!)
ET should do it. And annoy the s**t out of Gene for usually being a putz.
He is going to make a fool out of himself and the Kiss name till his last day. I am going to see him and his band play for 44 dollars a ticket in May. I am just worried about a short set and I hope no recording. I am a fan of his first solo release and of course every Kiss record. But not interested in meeting him or even listening to one more boring word from him.
