RRHOF-inductee and guitar legend Ace Frehley releases a new video for Cherry Medicine, featured on his new album, 10,000 Volts.
His highly-anticipated album will be released tomorrow. Produced and co-written by Ace and Steve Brown, the uncontainable energy on the 11-tracks showcases some of Ace’s best works since his ’78 solo album.
On Cherry Medicine, a mean palm-muted chug underlines his pensive vocals where he confesses, “I knew I had to change my ways for sure to keep you by my side.” The track showcases another side of Frehley with its saccharine and sweet, soaring hook as he promises, “I love you, cherry medicine. You heal my every need and some.” He seals the sentiment with another powerhouse solo.
Ace previously released the title track, 10,000 Volts and single Walkin’ on the Moon.
10,000 Volts upholds an incredible legacy for Frehley, spanning 50-plus years in the limelight. Back in 1978, he delivered his solo debut, Ace Frehley. It reached platinum status and exploded as “the highest-selling of the four KISS solo albums in the Soundscan era.” Pitchfork even retrospectively rated it a rare “8.5” score. In 1987, he dropped Frehley’s Comet.Following Anomaly in 2009, he went on to make history once again. His 2014 Space Invader LP captured #9 on the Billboard 200 and emerged as “The only solo album by a past or current KISS member to reach the Top 10 on the chart.” 2016’s Origins Vol. 1, bowed at #1 on the Billboard Top Hard Rock Albums Chart and in the Top 5 of the Billboard Top Rock Albums Chart. He notably maintained his momentum with Spaceman [2018].
Rock ‘n’ roll and heavy metal simply wouldn’t sound, look, or feel the same without Ace Frehley. Among hundreds of accolades, The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame® inducted him in 2014 as a Co-founder and the original lead guitarist of KISS. Guitar World named him in the Top 15 of its “100 Greatest Heavy Metal Guitarists of All Time” and plugged the lead from Shock Me on the “50 Greatest Guitar Solos of All Time.” Magnifying the imprint of his catalog as a solo artist, Foo Fighters cut a fan-favorite cover of Ozone, and he even jammed out New York Groove alongside The Roots on NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The late Dimebag Darrell of Pantera proudly sported a tattoo of Frehley on his chest, while Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine celebrated him on X/Twitter as “My first guitar hero.”

This video is great and hilarious! In the screenshot where you can hit play to watch the video, the woman sitting to Ace’s right is his girlfriend Lara. I don’t know who the woman to his left is but man she is one of the most beautiful women to ever walk the earth! I’m speechless!
Now back to the song and video. Great, catchy tune. I love the hooks and simpleness of the lyrics that still say so much. I’m looking forward to hearing the entire album tomorrow! Steve Brown has certainly worked some magic on this one. Ace is back and I told you so!
Very well said Paul!! You seem to be one of the positive people on this site. This is the album of the year for sure!
I have to explore this whole release and excited to hear a couple of Ace’s classic solos. Walking on the Moon is so catchy!! Ace is just a really funny guy too. Not many legends left.
I recently bought Jethro Tull’s Aqualung box set of 4 discs. And the clarity is just amazing. I can hear evevy base note played. The whole album just comes to life. I wish we could get more artists to remaster their music the right way or do it at all.
Lastly, there is only great things to say about Ace or you can go hang out with Dana or listen to Eddie talk about some of the new bands that he thinks are great but are not. Hahaha!
Your “ha, ha” always gives you away, CRAIG, Unless, you want to be known, despite changing your identity?
It’s quite interesting, for someone who seems to have nothing but animus, for both Eddie, and I, you can’t help but be an active participant on this site. It must be some strange love hate phenomenon, but I don’t understand the psychology? When I don’t like something, I don’t go out of my way, let alone post disparaging, and insulting, messages, on their site.
George, I’m surprised you would “bag” about Eddie, considering he has been a very vocal supporter of Ace Frehley. I would think you would be supportive of Eddie for his constant support of Ace.
And regarding what Eddie thinks are great new bands, that’s his personal opinion. Just because you don’t like the newer bands he thinks are great, doesn’t mean those bands are not great. As you know, music is subjective, and we each have our own preferences…doesn’t mean we are each “wrong” cuz we don’t agree on who’s “great”. It’s the equivalent of me commenting that Jethro Tull is not “great” just cuz I don’t like their music…which I don’t like…. But there is a fan base that does indeed enjoy Tull, like you, who would consider them great. I think Taylor Swift is great, but Dana will have a different opinion, and that’s okay. So…..to each their own…..
Rattle,
You are correct about Eddie’s relationship with Ace. As a matter of fact, I believe Eddie was the one who signed, or helped sign Frehley to a record label, as a solo artist.
Also, I also have a very differing opinion on Tull, as well as, Swift. There should NEVER be any flute in rock music, EVER. It is fine in Classical, but rock? Ugh.
As for opinions, all are welcome here. Unlike Craig/George, who believes, his is the only one, that matters. He should consider having his own show.
This press release forgot to mention that Ace can sing better than Paul Stanley and that Eddie Van Halen got the idea for his trademark hammer-on/pull-off technique from watching Ace do it first onstage in 1977.
Also, I’m confused now. If every album Ace puts out “showcases some of Ace’s best works since his ’78 solo album,” does that mean that I should skip buying this album and wait for the next one since THAT ONE will also surely “showcase some of Ace’s best works since his ’78 solo album”?
Well, at least the music is good…
Yes is Doug , yes it is.
Hey George, this is “Rattlepussy” here…..just wanted to let you know that I like this song by Ace Frehley, but i don’t like Ace’s voice. And, later today, I’ll be at my local independent record shop to pick up Ace’s new album, as well as Mick Mars’ new album….showing my “respect” for both legendary artists.
Now, I’ll wait for your obscene, slur laced reply to me since i commented that i didn’t like Ace’s voice…..
Rattle,
That was my initial gripe, the talk singing style, is not my cup of tea. Never has been, and it doesn’t matter who is doing it (Lou Reed, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, etc.)
Halford is my favorite vocalist, so it is difficult to listen to him, Dio (RIP), even someone like David Coverdale, and then listen to someone performing talk “singing.”
George is still here???? Ok, maybe we if we ignore him, he’ll get bored and leave.
Got both Ace, and Mick’s, along with AC/DC Jailbreak ’74, all on glorious CD.
I agree with you Dana, no flutes in rock, not a fan of Tull, either. Considering AC/DC, what about Bagpipes?
Charles,
Not a fan of the bagpipes, either, but they are way more rock n’ roll, than a flute. 😉 .
