AC/DC’S MALCLOM YOUNG “REPORTEDLY” SUFFERING FROM DEMENTIA AND IN A NURSING HOME

ACDC Malcolm Young Germany 1992 31 Bernard Zuel of The Sydney Morning Herald reports:

It may be that dementia is claiming another giant, this time a musical one.

AC/DC co-founder, guitarist and songwriter Malcolm Young, whose retirement from the band was announced on Wednesday, has been moved into full-time care in a nursing home facility in Sydney’s eastern suburbs specializing in dementia, sources connected to the Young family have said.

The Young family connection said: “If you were in the room with [Malcolm Young] and walked out, then came back in one minute later, he wouldn’t remember who you are. He has a complete loss of short-term memory. His wife, Linda, has put him in full-time care.”

The first official word on what was assumed to be a serious and debilitating, but still undisclosed, illness, was in April when it was confirmed that Young would not be participating in the recording of the next AC/DC album, which will be called Rock Or Bust and is due out in November.

In his place during the recording sessions in a Vancouver studio has been his nephew, Steve.

In an announcement from the band’s management this week, it was revealed that Steve will join Angus Young, frontman Brian Johnson and drummer Phil Rudd on stage when the band embarks on another massive world tour in 2015.

    1. Nope. My grandpa smoked for 50+ years and when he died not one trace of lung issues. So don’t always assume what them dumb ass commercials tell you. Sometimes s-t just happens.

    2. Exactly. My grandma passed away from cancer. She never drank of smoked, also worked in restaurants her entire life. Other grandma (same age) is still here and she drank, smoked, and worked in factories.

    3. Wow, since your grandpa suffered no ill effects from smoking I guess they are not bad for you. Good to know. I will run out and get my kids a few packs now that you straightened it out and I know they are OK.

    4. I don’t think that was his point. Some idiots just assume that smoking is the cause of every illness.

    5. My Grandpa is 98 and smoked a pack a day for 60 years and drank whiskey everday. He still has a couple of beers a day.
      Sorry to hear about Malcolm.

    6. Yep, My Grandmother smoked from 13-88 and she died at home at 89 years old.
But this really sucks. Wishing Malcolm nothing but well wishes and thanks for giving us so much great music.

  1. Really sad, Malcolm is one of the best rhythm guitarists who has ever lived. Like John Lennon, he had the talent to be a lead but he never put himself above the band, always allowing Angus to be the focal point.

I send out my best wishes to Malcolm and his family through what must be an unbelievably difficult time. I know his nephew Stevie will do him proud.

    1. I wanna also send my thoughts and prayers to Angus, Brian, Cliff and Phil and the entire Young family. This has to be extremely hard on them, especially Angus. That’s his big brother and his best friend and I can’t imagine the pain and heartbreak he’s going through.
