Dave Lifton of Ultimate Classic Rock reports:
Add AC/DC to the list of people who disagree with Gene Simmons‘ headline-making proclamation earlier this year that “rock is dead”.
In an exclusive interview with Ultimate Classic Rock (see video below), Angus Young and Brian Johnson declare the genre to be “alive and kicking.”
Young and Johnson were asked about Simmons’ statement. “With all respect to the lad,” Brian Johnson said. “I think he’s terribly wrong for a start. I really do. I don’t think anybody should have the nerve to stand there and just say that a certain genre of music has just ff—- disappeared overnight…Well, I’m here to tell you, Gene, you’re wrong. And I’m saying it’s alive and kicking. My name’s Brian. How do you do?”
Angus Young added his thoughts on the matter — “It’s been a long, long, long funeral” — before going on to give young bands the benefit of his four decades of experience. “If they think they’ve really got something,” he said. “They ought to stick with it…When people find their direction and…they finally kind of define what they are as a band, then they should hang on to that.
AC/DC’s new album, Rock or Bust will be released on December 2nd.

God, what idiots, and I love and worship them. Once again, Gene was referring to the industry and its past business model, NOT rock being dead. Duhhh. It was clarified.
Leave it to Gene to talk about the business aspect of it as opposed to the musical aspect of it. Any opinion that needs to be ‘clarified’ means the original point wasn’t clear to begin with. That’s like painting a fence a second time because the first time was too shitty. Also, the way the question was presented to them, how the hell else where they supposed to answer? Some things you may want to consider before you come rushing to the defense of some pompous douchebag who could give less than a shit about the fans and solely interested in the profit margin of his ‘product’. yeech.
For a genre of music that Gene claims is dead Kiss sure has been busy. The record company’s and some of the publishing company’s may be out of business but Rock music is not dead.
Yet another rocker who misunderstood The Demon’s comments….
Milkmonty, I’ve read many dumb and ignorant comments here and other places about KISS and other bands but your comments about KISS and comparing them to the Monkees tops them all. And by the way, in your first sentence, it’s “they’re”, not “there”.
I hope your joking? Your proof reading and spell checking posts on ET?? You should turn your computer off get out of your studio apartment and get a life! How pathetic, What a Loser!
Now, now,
Play nice. There is no need for insults.
Dana from ET.com 🙂
LOL!! No worries Dana. He knows nothing of what he speaks.
More errors….should be you’re not your.
Dude, why are u back? I thought u said you were done with this site a few weeks ago? We were all hoping u were studying.
Ac dc a little bigger than kiss, plus their about the music and are in touch with things unlike Simmons. I’ve heard kiss Vip meet and greets being a let down. Simmons is right about the industry being horrible. He can eat sh$& for saying that people with depression should just kill themselves which is forgotten by now.
