Def Leppard have revealed the track listing and album cover for their forthcoming self titled album tentatively scheduled for release on October 30th.
Def Leppard frontman Joe Elliott explained the reasoning behind releasing a self-titled album at this point in the band’s career, saying, “It’s just called ‘Def Leppard’ because that’s what it sounds like. It doesn’t sounds like any one specific era of Def Leppard. It’s got everything.”
That “everything,” Elliott argued, includes bits of Def Leppard’s many influences. “You’ll listen and you go ‘Oh, that sounds like Def Leppard’ or you’ll go ‘That is Leppard, but sounds a bit like Led Zeppelin or Queen but you can hear the AC/DC or the Crosby, Stills and Nash coming through,” he predicted. “We have not shied away from anything that’s influenced us in our growing up periods of our life. Just because we’ve made the kind of music we’ve made doesn’t mean to say we don’t like all of this other stuff.”

The first three Def Leppard albums are not only the best but also still get regular spins on my stereo. They lost me with Hysteria. I prefer the raw, harder rocking of the earlier albums, especially HIGH N’ DRY.
James, my other brother from another mother, I have to sort of disagree with ya bro. Yes DL made a left turn with HYSTERIA, little different sound and style, but even with all that, IMO HYSTERIA is a great album! I’ll admit the first time I heard the first single “Women,” I was like, WTF? DL? But believe it or not, after a couple of listens, it grew on me! And then of course came “Animal,” “Hysteria,” “Pour Some Sugar On Me,” and then unfortunately “Love Bites,” the only song from the album that I don’t like! But then rebounded nicely with “Armageddon It” and of course “Rocket.” I still think to this day HYSTERIA is a masterpiece, but as always, to each their own. Cheers James, “Let’s Go” Mets! 🙂
How could u forget to mention the epic song Gods of War?!
Well, like I said John, IMO the whole album is a masterpiece, except for “Love Bites,” UGH!
Well, you’re probably in the minority. Hysteria is what sent them over the edge with global popularity.
Pyromania is the best Def Leppard release, in my opinion. You had them still retaining that rock edge a little more, but could clearly hear the pop influences coming through.
Pyromania is my favorite as well, Michael.
But, High N’ Dry, is a close second.
D 🙂
Is Billy’s got a gun based on a true story? I’ve always wondered that whenever I blast it!
Its based on Billy Joel’s penchant for carrying a gun in his car when he drove drunk all the time cause that’s when he felt he was the most creative (see John Lennon smoking pot during recording sessions). It’s how he came up with the song Pressure………ok I’m just f’n around. I have no idea what that song is about. Great tune though.
I’m so fired up cause I was just about to give up hope on these guys kicking ass again but by the looks of that album cover and hearing the first single they are finally back on track! Lets hope they let Vivian cut loose on the rest of the album Dio style!!!
The song Let Go is one of the worst piles of crap I’ve ever heard…I’m embarrassed for Def Leppard…the music is absolutely 100% Pour Some Sugar on Me, and the lyrics were written by a 12 year old Def Leppard fan from the 80’s…total cheese. The song is so contrived, and just awful…I will give one more a listen, but if this is the single they want to put out ahead of the album release, the rest must be even worse…
I see your point somewhat but I would rather hear this then the best song off of slang or sparkle lounge any day!
