California rockers Rival Sons appeared on the Late Show With David Letterman on October 9th performing their song Open My Eyes from their album Great Western Valkyrie. Watch their performance below.
Rival Sons released Great Western Valkyrie, their fourth album, on June 6th.
I really like this band. People are taking notice. There’s some really great young bands out there that are making some incredible music: Bands like Rival Sons, Airbourne, Kyng, Scorpion Child, Monster Truck (dumb band name but a GREAT band), and Buffalo Summer to name a few. Rock ain’t dead.
I know Eddie has basically taught you the playlist you just mentioned but no matter how good you might believe they are, these bands cannot penetrate the irreversible and pathetic social attitude of youth for the past almost 15 years that has made hip hop slay rock. Take a good look around you. There will never be enough of an uprising to have kids get angry and turn to the electric guitar and passionate, commanding vocals instead of passive, brainless, electronic, fake urban-inspired “music”.
Sad. This world would have really needed a movement like that with all the s–t goin on this year.
Actually, Eddie played no part in my knowing about these bands. I discovered Rival Sons a few years ago when I saw the High Voltage Festival broadcast on VHI Classic, had never heard of them and thought they were great. I know sbout my fellow Texans Scorpion Child because I live less than 100 miles from Austin. When Eddie talked about them on TMS I was very happy for them. I discovered Airbourne in 2008 when I saw their video and I bought their debut album the very next week. I discovered Monster Truck over a year ago when a song of theirs was played on the Music Choice channel on my Time Warner Digital cable. I heard about Buffalo Summer when I saw a YouTube interview with Monster Truck and learned they were opeing for Monster Truck at the time so I checked them out and they are great. I heard about Kyng for the first time when Rex Brown mentioned them. Honestly, whether these bands sell millions of albums or not doesn’t destroy the fact that they are bright spots in an otherwise dismal music biz. I know the scene isn’t what it once was and probably never will be again. But if rock never regains its glory, that won’t stop me from searching for new exciting bands to listen to and go see live, whether it’s in an arena or a club with 20 people. I’m 45 years old and it makes me sad to think the younger generations won’t get to experience the rock scene I grew up with. But even though I’ll always listen to my beloved classic bands (Priest, Maiden, Sabbath, AC/DC, Scorpions, ect, ect) I still have a passion for rock and metal to search out new bands. My dad died in 1999 at age 59 and a few years before he died, I still clearly remember the day he said to me “Have you ever heard of a band called Jackyl?”I turned him on to Van Halen and he took me to see them on the Fair Warning tour when I was a kid. I turned him on to AC/DC and he loved the “Let There Be Rock” album so much that he borrowed it from me and never gave it back. So I guess I’m the way I am because of him and I’ll never change and I’ll pass my passion for music on to my kids. New Revolution or not, Rock will never die.
These bands you mentioned are nothing but flavor of the month type of thing. In the sense of bands becoming icons like Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Kiss,Ac/Dc,etc are over. That is the part of rock that is dead. These new bands will never be metioned as having any influence on rock music in the years to come.
Even if Eddie personally selected his playlist, who cares. As long as he’s discovering new music, that’s a good thing regardless of what channel it comes through in. My expectation of radio or Internet music sites is that they introduce me to new music. If they can’t do that, they might as well be robots cranking out the same 50 classic rock songs you hear blasting from construction sites.
By the way, Scorpion Child rocks. Thanks for the recommendation Eddie.

i agree 100% and Rival Sons is one of them. Unlike Gene simmons who didnt have the intrinsic talent but a gimmic to start on they are musicians first.
I am digging this band! Each album is better than the last.
Blabbermouth has turned into the wannabe Metal Sludge for classic hard rock acts. If I see another recycled article trying to imply dirt about Dave Lombardo, Geoff Tate, or Sebastian Bach, I’m going to throw up.
Plus, the juvenile “fans” with fake profiles who don’t acknowledge music made after 1990, even though most weren’t born before then.

Wow, this singer has some set of pipes.
Unlike all the voices that prefabricated thanks to Pro Tools, it is always so great to see a real band with real talent.
