QUESTION OF THE WEEK: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE COVER SONG?

I am really not a fan of cover songs, and for some reason, I get especially perturbed, when bands cover, The Beatles.

I do like Judas Priest’s cover of War Pigs, both versions: the one with The Metal God solo vocals, and the charity version, with Ozzy. I also like W.A.S.P.‘s cover of I Don’t Need No Doctor.

However, with all that being written, hands down this is my favorite cover song of all time, and while I know many may disagree. I think they did a better job than the original (Sorry, Aretha). I think Ron Young is an amazing vocalist, one of my favorites.

  2. I agree guns version is better than the Beatles or Paul but Hair of the Dog can not be touched by anyone other than the late Dan Caferty and Nazareth. Anyone messing with any Nazareth songs are fighting words!! Haha!

    1. It’s actually a solo Paul McCartney song, and I know nothing about Nazareth, other than they are a Scottish band, and Guns, covered their song, well. I heard the original, and while I agree it’s better, GN’R did a decent job.

      I also appreciate that on the Guns cover, thy ended by playing The Beatles‘ Day Tripper, because the chords of, Hair Of The Dog, are very similar.

  4. Dana, thanks for the info. You learn a lot on here from other people! Nazareth Hair of the Dog is a very hard rock album with not one filler song on it! I would say the band is at its creative peak! Everybody should own this who likes harder rock from the 70s. Malice in Wonderland is also great! Guns I may always be annoyed with from all the years that they have been around and only put out 5 studio albums and now just tour and tour.These great questions of the week have made this site really great!

    1. Good, I am glad this idea, that came to me, is making everyone engaged and happy. Being educational is a great bonus, as well, as I too, have learned a lot from all of you.

    2. George, I 100% agree with you about G n R. IMO, most overrated band in rock history! And they are in the RRHOF…and Iron Maiden isn’t!!!! Go figure……

    3. Yeah Rattle, I don’t pay too much attention to that rrhof stuff. My music collection is my rrhof! Something interesting about Iron Maiden. They have this cd out called bsides. Their are songs on there just as good as anything on Piece of Mind.check out the song King of twilight! Hard to find cd!
