QUESTION OF THE WEEK: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE COVER SONG?

I am really not a fan of cover songs, and for some reason, I get especially perturbed, when bands cover, The Beatles.

I do like Judas Priest’s cover of War Pigs, both versions: the one with The Metal God solo vocals, and the charity version, with Ozzy. I also like W.A.S.P.‘s cover of I Don’t Need No Doctor.

However, with all that being written, hands down this is my favorite cover song of all time, and while I know many may disagree. I think they did a better job than the original (Sorry, Aretha). I think Ron Young is an amazing vocalist, one of my favorites.

  1. Type O Negative – Black Sabbath
Riot – Racing with the Devil on a Spanish Highway
    Pantera – Planet Caravan
    Judas Priest – Green Manalishi
Judas Priest – Diamonds and Rust

All the Van Halen songs everyone has listed are also in my list. I’m sure once I hit reply I’ll think of one or ten more but those are the ones that come to mind off the top of my head.

  2. I have to mention several more “covers” that are in my opinion either better or just as good as the originals – I Love Rock ‘N’ Roll ~ Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, You Better Run ~ Pat Benatar, Once Bitten, Twice Shy ~ Great White, and all 4 songs from DLR’s EP Crazy From The Heat!

  3. Learn much reading the comments. Music I’ve never heard, old stuff that hasn’t been on the turntable in years, new music I wouldn’t otherwise hear about……..much appreciated.

  4. VH You Really Got Me, Redd Kross, Deuce. Gene loves Redd Kross. Their version is faster, and really fun. Check out their Phaseshifter album, everyone from Scott Weiland to Def Leppard have praised them.
