QUESTION OF THE WEEK: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE COVER SONG?

I am really not a fan of cover songs, and for some reason, I get especially perturbed, when bands cover, The Beatles.

I do like Judas Priest’s cover of War Pigs, both versions: the one with The Metal God solo vocals, and the charity version, with Ozzy. I also like W.A.S.P.‘s cover of I Don’t Need No Doctor.

However, with all that being written, hands down this is my favorite cover song of all time, and while I know many may disagree. I think they did a better job than the original (Sorry, Aretha). I think Ron Young is an amazing vocalist, one of my favorites.

  1. Priests cover of The Green Manalishi (With The Two-Pronged Crown) is up there. I thought Motley Crue’s cover of The Beatles Helter Skelter was awesome. Ace Frehley’s cover of Fire & Water with Paul Stanley (not me that other guy) was great. American Woman by Lenny Kravitz was great. There’s just so many out there I can’t remember them all.

  2. I am not really a fan of covers as well, it’s like I always say, it depends on who did it, how and why they did it, so here are my top 5 exceptions –
    5) I Can’t Explain – Scorpions
    4) Cum On Feel The Noize – Quiet Riot
    3) New York Groove – Ace Frehley
    2) You Really Got Me – Van Halen
    1) Train Kept A Rollin’ – Aerosmith

  3. Van Halen did ‘You Really Got Me’ & ‘Pretty Woman’. The also did ‘Dancing in the Streets’ and some old times covers. They were a very good band.

  4. Pinball Wizard by Sir Elton John as it were, yes…a cracking good version of it…better than the The Who’s, I would say…which is the original; so better than the original.
