QUESTION OF THE WEEK: NAME ONE ALBUM THAT YOU WOULD CONSIDER PERFECT OR CLOSE TO PERFECT? MEANING ALL KILLER, NO FILLER, NO “GREATEST HITS” RECORDS ALLOWED

I realize this is a difficult question, so I will allow for some honorable mentions. However, your first choice, must be your top choice. The genre must be Hard Rock, and Heavy Metal, only.

For me, off the top of my head:

Top choice: Judas PriestScreaming For Vengeance

Some honorable mentions: Def LeppardPyromania, Lynch MobWicked Sensation, (Bon years) AC/DCHighway To Hell/(Brian years) Back In Black, Van HalenVan Halen TeslaMechanical Resonance, Ozzy OsbourneDiary Of A Madman.

  1. Dana, I agree 100% with Screaming For Vengeance!!!! I knew NOTHING about Heavy Metal till my best friend pushed play on the boom box in the spring of 1983. I was 14 then. When I heard Hellion intro into Electric Eye it changed my life forever. I have not missed them live since 1984. Just saw them in Michigan last week. Drove 4 hours one way and it was totally worth it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    1. Hi Scott,

Welcome! I think we maybe the same age? So ecstatic, to read, what you wrote about the mighty Priest.

They are my all time favorite band, and like you, Screaming For Vengeance is the reason why, before that, my favorite band was Def Leppard.

What you think of Bloodstone? That is one of my all time favorite songs.

    2. Hi Dana!! Thanks for the welcome, I’ve been reading your comments for a long time! (I’m 57 years old BTW)

Bloodstone is an amazing tune! The intro is classic Priest for sure!!! Also the title track & Fever are fav’s for me.

So I have a “dream” setlist that we will never hear live. No particular order. Some they have played over the years. Please tell me what you think..

      Genocide
      Island of Domination
Let Us Prey/Call For The Priest
Raw Deal (absolute favorite of mine!!!)
      Burning Up
      Killing Machine
      Heroes End
      Saints in Hell
      Steeler
You Don’t Have to be Old to be Wise
      Solar Angels
      Turning Circles
      Hard as Iron
      Fever
Between The Hammer and The Anvil
      Halls of Valhalla
      Guardians/Rising from Ruins
      As God is my Witness
Last but not least…Run of the Mill

A diehard fan can dream right???

    3. Hi Scott,

Great set list. Did you happen to attend the 30th Anniversary tour of British Steel? If you did, then you would have been blessed, to have heard some of those deeper Steel cuts, that you listed above, on that tour.

It just so happens, You Don’t Have To Be Old To Be Wise, is one of my all time favorite Priest songs, and one of the main reasons, that tour was a can’t miss for me, because as you know, they never perform that song.

Additionally, I also love Fever, which they used to play on the sound system, when the house lights came up, at the end of the show. Again, never put in a live set list.

Also, I agree with Turning Circles, I am a huge fan of that one, as well. Sadly, Point Of Entry, seems to be the forgotten album, and some fans seem to have very polarizing views on it. I have no idea why, when Turbo is in their catalog-LOL!!

I would love to hear Savage live.

Finally, you are only a year older than me 🙂

  2. To me i would say operation minecrime from top to bottom once you hear the first song you can’t stop till the end a very close 2nd Is Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon to me the concept album will always be the best because it tells the story

  3. Do kids today even listen to an album from beginning to end? I feel like answering this is showing my age! Here’s a short list, but I’m sure I’m forgetting something (this could also be because of my age…):
    Aerosmith: Rocks
    Heart: Dog & Butterfly
    Dream Theater: Awake
    Mr. Big: Lean Into It
    Tesla: Psychotic Supper
    Y&T: In Rock We Trust

There are others, but I have to mention one of the greatest albums ever made. When I was much younger, my parents had one of those all in one stereo systems (and yes, they kind of sucked) in our living room that I would hijack any time that I could. When Pink Floyd released The Wall, I would put that on, lay down on the living room floor with the speakers on either side of my head, and be quite literally transported to some otherworldy place. To this day I’ve never tired of listening to it from beginning to end.

  4. Mmmmm……this is a tricky one.

I won’t say Black Sabbath, because that would be too easy. Def Leppard’s Hysteria is fantastic from start to finish, The Black Album is also a phenomenal record from top to bottom. There are so many but I think that I’m going to go, maybe a little left field ( because the two I’ve mentioned are probably easy choices) and say Sonic Temple by The Cult.

Sun King, Sweet Soul Sister, American Horse and of course Fire Woman just to name a few (Alright I’ll admit it – it’s been a while since I’ve listened to it and I can’t remember the others right now!!!!). Either way, it rocks.
