QUESTION OF THE WEEK: NAME ONE ALBUM THAT YOU WOULD CONSIDER PERFECT OR CLOSE TO PERFECT? MEANING ALL KILLER, NO FILLER, NO “GREATEST HITS” RECORDS ALLOWED

I realize this is a difficult question, so I will allow for some honorable mentions. However, your first choice, must be your top choice. The genre must be Hard Rock, and Heavy Metal, only.

For me, off the top of my head:

Top choice: Judas PriestScreaming For Vengeance

Some honorable mentions: Def LeppardPyromania, Lynch MobWicked Sensation, (Bon years) AC/DCHighway To Hell/(Brian years) Back In Black, Van HalenVan Halen TeslaMechanical Resonance, Ozzy OsbourneDiary Of A Madman.

  1. Everybody got some great taste except the one lone Blue Murder fan. Haha! I am going to say Boston Third Stage is my top pic! The lyrics are great. The whole vibe is great! Then Robin Trower Bridge of sighs. Every time I put that on I drift off to another time another planet! April Wine Harder Faster. Zep 4, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath!!! Monster magnet Powertrip!

    1. Hey do me a favor, and put on the Robin Trower album ASAP! Only this time when you’re floating to the other planet, just stay there and don’t come back! K? Thx!

    2. Yes, I wish I could too some days!! I love your music pics. Meddle is such a great album! Dana you just mad cause your short!! Haha!! Hoho! Haha!

    3. “George”/Craig,

I am not angry about being short, I was merely expressing my frustration, with the lack of consideration, and manners, on others’ parts. Exactly, like what you are exemplifying, with your childish, passive aggressive digs. Interestingly enough, they are like some kind of mental tick, where you cannot seem to control yourself, after awhile. I think you are just jealous of Sykes, which I cannot blame you, and my affection for him.

Also, I will presume by deflecting answering my question, with what you thought was a clever insult, the answer is a non shocking, resounding “No.” I already knew the answer, but thank you for confirming.

Additionally, if you continue down this path, I am afraid I will have to start deleting your comments once again, because you clearly cannot conduct yourself like an adult. I am not your pal, nor your bro, and I will not tolerate your snark. I owe you nothing, but as a moderator here, you owe me some level of respect. If you cannot comply with basic decency, sorry, you do not deserve to be here. You are the only poster I have continual issues with, why is that?

BTW, I have been contacted offline, by other posters, who have stated they do not like the way you communicate to me, and they do not understand why I allow your presence here. Just so you know, your behavior doesn’t just offend me, it offends others, as well.

Finally, I apologize to all of you, who have read this nonsense. Obviously, like politics, it should have no space on a music site.

    4. Haha HoHo I don’t care that you like my music pics, and I don’t care for the way you talk to Dana either. Our friendship goes beyond words on a screen, which is something I’m sure you know nothing about. You have any real friends? Doubtful. I’m not going to get into it with you because this isn’t that sort of site. I just wanted to let you know so there is no confusion later, that you are not my friend here, and you never will be. So keep your comments to yourself, I don’t’ want your feedback on anything. I’m sure that’s clear enough for you to understand, but I’m also sure it’s falling on blind eyes and you’ll continue to act like the troll you are.

    5. George, while we all know Dana can defend herself, I feel it necessary to chime in here……There is no need to insult anybody on this site. We all have our own opinions, and while we may not agree on what is “great”, “good”, “excellent”, etc…NONE of us are wrong for enjoying what we like. There is no reason to ridicule others solely cuz their tastes are contrary to yours. Don’t be a troll or a douche, try being a good neighbor and respect the varying opinion of others.

    6. Rattle,

I cannot thank you enough, for always having my back, it really means a lot to me.

I also want to thank my pal, Wrecked Neck, whom I coaxed over here, from another music community. Not only, because I am very fond of him, but felt he could contribute spirited, as well as, highly comical commentary.

It is quite pathetic, that in our middle years, we still have to deal with others, with arrested development and a lack of basic social graces.

I can take a joke, and have low base sense of humor, as much as the next person, however, there is no reason to lower oneself, with ad hominem attacks.

I try to temper my virtual tongue, but there is a law of diminishing returns, in regards to my patience, and manners, when posters refuse to change their modus operandi, and abandon, their penis like behavior.

I was almost a psych major, in college, so there are many theories, as to why one resorts to being an online anonymous troll and bully. I will just leave it at that…

Again, thank you, as always, for your highly measured, and articulate, response/s.

  2. My number one perfect album is Mercyful Fate, Don’t Break the Oath. I have listened to it countless times, and it never gets old. Honorable mentions:

    AC/DC Let there be Rock
    Van Halen, Van Halen
    Ozzy, Diary
    Sabbath, Sabbath
    Slayer, Hell Awaits
Pink Floyd, Wish you were here. Even though Meddle is my favorite PF album, it’s not quite perfect.
Judas Priest, Sad Wings of Destiny
    Candlemass, Epicus Doomicus Metallicus
And gotta give King Diamond one more shot with his solo album Abigail.

    1. Sad Wings Of Destiny, is up there with my top Priest albums. It may reside just below Screaming For Vengeance? It’s fantastic record, and Victim Of Changes, is a phenomenal song, one of their all time best.

I see we also have a few other picks in common. 🙂

    2. I got introduced to Priest from British Steel, and that’s the only Priest record I heard when Screaming came out. Circus said it was not as commercial as Point of Entry and a return to Steel, and they called it, “Screaming With A Vengeance.” So it comes out, and I took the bus all the way across town to the record store, I was surprised that the cover was yellow. I waited until I got home to open it. The restraint I showed is remarkable, but I had to wait until I could put the record on my turntable. So I get home, look at the inner sleeve shot, and I thought that was just the coolest band shot ever. I put on headphones, drop the needle, and was just stunned. I couldn’t believe it was the same band. It was such a leap forward, and Rob sang in a completely different style that I double checked the credits to make sure he was still in the band.

    3. Yeah it’s really hard to pick my favorite JP album. Pretty much Victim of Changes pushes it over the top above all other albums of theirs. SfV, Painkiller, British Steele, Rocka Rolla, sin after Sin, Killing machine are all up there for me. Just typing those titles makes me want to start blasting some JP right now.

    4. You make an excellent point, Victim Of Changes, is such a masterful, powerful, phenom of a song, that it alone, would propel Sad Wings to the top of any list.

I tend to be a loyalist, guess it must be the Leo in me? Therefore, since Screaming was the first Judas Priest album I ever bought, it remains my favorite. Bloodstone always gets my, no pun intended, blood pumping. 😉

    5. I love seeing Mercyful Fate make the list!. “Don’t Break the Oath” really is a great album, as is “Melissa”.

  3. Oh, yay!! Another fun question! My top pick is Queen: A Night At The Opera. The Prophet’s Song alone is worth it. Near perfect, as I would take Sweet Lady off the record. Honorable mentions are Kiss Destroyer, Kiss Alive!, Judas Priest Screaming For Vengeance, Iron Maiden Killers, Van Halen Women And Children First.

  4. I know it’s not Hard Rock or Metal, but “Rumours” by Fleetwood Mac is sheer perfection.

    British Steel – Judas Priest
    Lovedrive – Scorpions

    1. Really like the Rumors pick. Grew up listening to it as my dad would play it over and over on the cassette player mounted under the dash of the 1971 Dodge
Dart I bounced around in, literally as we didn’t wear seat belts back then!!!
