QUESTION OF THE WEEK: IN HONOR OF THANKSGIVING, WHAT MUSIC, OR MUSIC RELATED ITEM, ARE YOU MOST GRATEFUL FOR, IN 2025?

Well, regarding musicians, in my humble opinion, this year had been terrible. Sadly, we have lost many iconic talents, such as, Ozzy Osbourne, Ace Frehley, John James Sykes, as well as, others.

But, with that “said,” off the top of my head, I am grateful to, The Kelly Clarkson Show, for introducing me to Whiskey Myers, and to Wolfgang Van Halen, for going against the large grain by proving, that some nepo babies, can have immense talent.

It seems that, especially in the music space, it is has been extraordinarily difficult for progenies, to follow in their parent’s footsteps. Also, in many cases, sorry to have to write this, but many are not very good.

While I understand, being the child of a famous musician, must be very difficult, especially a very influential one, such as a member of The Beatles (who, in my opinion, only produced one talented offspring, Julian Lennon), there have been rare occasions, where we have had, some talented children. So, once again, thank you to Wolfgang Van Halen, who has beaten the odds, in the most spectacular way.

Can you think of any other progenies who have been successful? Two others, that come to mind, as I type this, are, Jason Bonham and Wilson Phillips (the 90s singing group, made up of Chyna Phillips (daughter of John and Michelle Phillips of The Mamas And The Papas) and Carnie and Wendy Wilson (daughters of Beach Boy, Brian Wilson). Also, whether you think Wilson Phillips were talented, is subjective, but they did have rather large commercial success).

Finally, Happy Turkey Day everyone. Hope you fill your bellies with treats, and end your day, with stuffed smiles.

  1. Well, here in England we don’t have or do Thanksgiving; however in the spirit of things…….

I’m thankful for having a personalised signed copy of Ozzy Osbourne’s autobiography ‘I am Ozzy.’ I am also extremely grateful and am honoured to say that I got to meet the man in person.

Maybe its the spiritual side that I have, maybe its because the music will live on forever, I really don’t know; but it still doesn’t feel that Ozzy has left us – I feel that about a lot of people who have passed.

    1. Hey DJH, You are lucky to have that book! Maybe we can take the dna off of it and clone Ozzy! Haha! I went to London once and did not want to come back to the US. I loved it there!! People who have not been their are clueless about how nice and respectful the people are there!

    2. Hello. my British Bud,

Lovely sentiment, and I wish I felt that way.

Since he passed, I feel a charming, comedic hole has been left, that will never be filled. As I wrote before, I miss Ozzy‘s essence. Yes, his music will always be a living testament, as will the old episodes of The Osbournes, but I just loved hearing his interviews, most, It is his personality, that I will miss most.

You were so lucky to have met him.

      Cheers.

    3. Hello George

Considering that my DNA is also on the book, I’m afraid that the Ozzy that would get cloned would be nothing like the original!
