QUESTION OF THE WEEK-COURTESY OF POSTER DOUG. R: WHAT’S YOUR fAVORITE FORMAT FOR MUSIC? CD, VINYL, CASSETTE, 8-TRACK, STREAMING?

Since I grew up on vinyl, I tend to prefer it, to all others formats.

However, I have not used a turntable in forever, so the format I use most is CD’s. I have some of the CD’s uploaded in my iTunes library, which I listen to on my laptop, as well. If it is not in my library, I will listen to the song on Youtube.

  1. The thing I’ve always loved/preferred with CD’s is the simplicity, programming, skipping a song, etc., vinyl is still and will always be my first choice/love and favorite format, but CD’s combine the great sound (most of em) and again the simplicity of organizing them, that’s why I enjoy having the best of both worlds – vinyl, and compact disc’s!

  2. Great question! Cassettes are the worst! I still have so many. The cassette players that they sell are mostly crap.unless you spend some bucks. The research that I have done says vynal is the way to go for the best sound. I have not experienced this yet. I enjoy CDs the most. Some of the remasters sound really good but you need great speakers!!! On CDs the best that I have seen for rich, clear where you can hear every note on every instrument in a song is the Jethro Tull deluxe anniversary cd blue ray with Steve Wilson doing the remixing or remastering. Or The deluxe two cd of most of the led Zeppelin CDs that were remastered by Jimmy Page. I was shocked by the great sound that he got out of those pieces of music. Led Zeppelin 4 cd does sound like nothing has been done to it.haha! I have to listen to it again! I still need 1, Houses of the Holy and Coda!

    1. George,

I completely agree, cassettes were, and are, pure garbage. The tape always got stuck in the pinch roller, which destroyed and warp the tapes.

I was a little too young for 8 tracks, but I would imagine, they weren’t better.
