This a very difficult question to answer, as there are so many albums, that could qualify.
With that “said,” off the top of my head, the two that came to mind are Blue Murder‘s Blue Murder and Lynch Mob‘s Wicked Sensation. But, if I could only pick one, shockingly (sarc), I am picking Blue Murder.
I would go with every record Lenny Wolf is on. The first Stone Fury record is the best debut by any rock band; I even like it more than the first Led Zeppelin. As time went on and budgets and labels got much smaller, Lenny kept making albums, sometimes performing the entire album except for the guitar solos; a true solo artist. Rendered Waters is one such album. He performs all of it (just not the lead guitar) on a very small budget, redoing his older material, not putting effects on his voice, and adding three brand new songs that are great. This album is a blast; it sounds like a rock concert he put together in his head. Lenny, on some very deep level, just gets music. I love how he will stay on a groove: music isn’t just jumping around all over the place to prove your ability; it’s about saying something universal, and creating atmosphere. Like the Beatles, he will groove on a riff knowing the riffs all have to be great. Another one that’s all him (just not the guitar solos, he has a specialist do that) is 2013’s Outlier. And he was in top form; and then he stopped. He doesn’t put out music unless his heart’s in it.
Doug R., I agree with you about Aerosmith’s “Night In the Ruts”. That is my #1 “under appreciated” album. The band was all f’d up at this time and the album didn’t chart well, but it’s still a killer (IMO) album….same with “Draw the Line”, my favorite Aerosmith album.
An old friend of mine, also LOVES, Night In The Ruts.
spot on doug!
Doug, I have to say you and I would be good friends if you lived near me. We can quit our jobs and listen to music all day!! Also Dynasty is a solid album. I listen to it the most of all my Kiss records. It has a unique feel to it. It reminds me of a time when we were just waiting and waiting for this album to come out. Or a song title. It was a great time for music on the radio!
Yep, later ’70s/early 80s was a really great time for music!
I’ll stick with Judas Priest, Nostradamus. It got so much hate when it was released, but I thinks it’s brilliant. Take off a couple sleeper songs and it’s a masterpiece.
Well & good Wrecked Neck – Nostradamus is Brilliant; one of my top five Metal concept records.
To change it up I will select a couple of albums, from lesser known bands, that I believe are “under appreciated”….Riot’s “Fire Down Under” and Diamond Head’s “Lightning to the Nations”. I think they are “under appreciated” cuz I think both of these excellent albums (IMO) should have propelled both bands to greater success….but they didn’t.

Triumph – Just A Game
Have to add Aerosmith – Night In The Ruts, and KI⚡️⚡️ – Dynasty, so many people let 1 song keep them from enjoying a solid ROCK album, what a shame!
