Song: Diary of a Madman
Album: Diary Of A Madman
Guitarist: Randy Rhoads
Lineup: Ozzy, Randy Rhoads, Bob Daisley, Lee Kerslake
This song is just a tour de force display of everything that made Randy Rhoads one of the all-time greats. The overall arrangements make it almost cinematic with its vintage horror movie vibe.
RTunes, 100% agree with you about the song “Diary of a Madman”. Just a great, epic song that took the listener on different musical journeys. It’s just a perfect song, IMO.
The ending of Diary, is clearly a nod to Il Fortuna from Carmina Burana, which is the piece that Ozzy always opens his live shows with, with its suggested use, courtesy of Bob Daisley.
Additionally, Rhoads’ playing on the song, is sublime. One can really hear, what an accomplished, and learned, classical guitarist he was, as well as, understanding why his guitar teacher referred to him, as a prodigy.
Song is Believer. Diary of course. Randy of course.I do believe the essence of every song Ozzy put out is from Ozzy even if he did not write some lyrics. So Diary for me is about the time it came out and to experience it at that time. To experience it at that time I know how big that release was. On the radio every hour. Hanging with friends jamming it. It was probably the biggest rock album ever besides Zep 4 as far as popular!! I saw Jake e Lee with Ozzy but not Randy. I also saw Gillian with Sabbath but not Ozzy. Haha!
Believer is such a heavy song. One of the gems that often gets overlooked in Ozzy’s catalog.
I love that song immensely.
What I found ever more amusing, was when Ozzy would flub the lyrics in the live version, singing, “I’m a believer, I ain’t no receiver” (The lyric being “I ain’t deceiver.”) Many funny jokes could be thought of, with that line 😉
Song – Over The Mountain
Album – Diary Of A Madman
Guitarist – Randy Rhoads
Lineup – Rhoads, Daisley, Kerslake
I was 14 yrs old when Bark at the Moon was released and I couldn’t get enough of “rock and roll rebel”, So I got to give my vote to that album with Jake, Bob, Tommy & Don. An amazing time to be young.
I completely agree Rock N’ Roll Rebel is a GREAT song. Hence why I chose to post it, on the Ozzy tribute page. You can see it here, if you are interested.
Maybe, it’s just me, but despite Bob Dailsey still being involved, I find the Jake E. Lee albums, overall, to be the most inconsistent. Once Wylde came into the fold, there seemed to be a return to better quality albums
I was 17 when Rock ‘N’ Roll Rebel/Bark At The Moon came out, ahh the memories! RNRR is definitely in my top 5 Ozzy songs! Believer is also another one of my faves, great song! Oh well, break is over, back to work

For me, this is an impossible question to answer.
Each line-up bought something to each album. If I could change one of the questions slightly, it would be this:
What do you think is Ozzy’s most underrated album?
For me, I always find myself looking at No Rest For The Wicked in that department. I absolutely love Zakk’s solo on Fire In The Sky.
Yes, that is a very good album.
