Dave Lifton of Ultimate Classic Rock reports:
In Paul Stanley’s new book, Backstage Pass, he discusses the current status of his relationships with his former KISS bandmates Ace Frehley and Peter Criss.
While he says it’s “nice” to have Frehley “back in a larger capacity in my life” due to the “shared magic” of their history, he’s not at all complimentary toward Criss, suggesting that the drummer has a bad attitude that prevents him from enjoying life.
“Peter unfortunately is a different story,” he notes. “I don’t think Peter has any life. He seems consumed by some kind of reality that his wife tells him. He’s always been negative and always maintained an us-against-them mentality. I don’t want that in my life.”
Stanley says the issue isn’t “about having differences, because I’m sure Ace and I have differences. It’s Peter’s overall sense of anger and resentment and feeling like a victim. He needs to acknowledge his participation and then change things. I think Peter’s life is probably very one-dimensional, uninteresting, un-stimulating — which is a result of seeing the world negatively and seeing everyone from the band members to the hotel service people as disrespectful.”
He concludes by stating, “That’s not a world anyone should live in, and I don’t want to be a part of it.” He then compares life to a game of dodgeball: Avoid getting knocked out while watching those around you get hit.
Backstage Pass, a follow-up to Stanley’s 2014 memoir Face the Music, arrives tomorrow and promises to go “deeper into his personal life and his home today, life on and off the stage, revealing what he’s learned from a lifetime as the frontman of the iconic band Kiss, and how he brings his unique sensibility not only to his superstar music career but to every area of his life – from business to parenting to health and happiness.”

i worked with peter a few times (personal security) and he has always been a moody guy,hes led around by the women in his life.the last time we worked together,he was in a great mood, but gigi his wife was in total control,to the point where peter was not even allowed to talk about football in her presence.he was a shell of his former self, sad indeed.and yes he is very defensive about a lot of things, some folks are just that way.you would have thought he would have did things a bit differently on the reunion ,and not relive the same s–t he did the 1st time around, but nope,he fell right back into hating everyone and everything, paul is correct on this issue, peter is not a happy guy
Gigi Ono
All four had there issues through the years – A shame Paul keeps bringing it up
I don’t doubt what Paul says about Peter is true and valid. In fact, all one has to do is read Peter’s book to realize that he is a negative guy with a victim complex. I also understand that in most instances, when Paul slams Peter, it is in response to a journalist’s pointed question.
All that said, it seems unnecessary to write yet another book and bash Peter all over again. You’ve made your point, Paul – both in interviews and in your first book. You don’t like Peter and you have no relationship with him. We get it.
Now let’s all move on.
Buzz for the book tour….zzzzzzz
I commend Paul for seeking mental help early with his struggles with his ear deformity and family issues and continued with seeking therapy.
My only wish the Dr. Phil of Rock would be more introspective and not seem holier than thou in every interview.
There was no need to bash Peter in that excerpt. Peter has retired and stayed away from commenting on the current tour.
With all the therapy and self enlightenment, surprised Paul could jot say something nice about Peter (or better yet say nothing at all). Guess all the money Paul has spent on therapy has not totally paid off.
is not that detriot 76 2nd night the best Peter Criss drumming????
