Judas Priest frontman Rob Halford has revealed he needs hernia surgery, after he underwent an operation on his back last year.
The 62-year-old has reported he’ll receive medical attention to his stomach before Priest tour in support of upcoming album Redeemer Of Souls.
Halford tells ABC Radio News that has an umbilical hernia that he intends to have repaired not because it gives him pain but because, “It looks like the alien just burst forth!”
Halford says, “My doctors always said, ‘We can take care of it,’ and I said, ‘I’ll get around to it.’ [The doctor said,] ‘If it’s not giving you any discomfort then you should leave it as it is,’ but it’s not very appealing to look at, is it?”
Halford says he’s resigned himself to the surgery, and manages to keep a good attitude about his advancing age. “That’s life,” he says. “The wonderful thing about heavy metal music is that it’s immortal. The music is immortal, but the creators are not bestowed with that attribute.”
Redeemer of Souls with be released in the States on July 15th.

No big deal Rob, I had it done a couple years ago. Very routine stuff. You’ll be back on your feet in a couple days with some lifting restrictions. BTW, I will buy the actual CD the day it comes out, can’t wait!!
damn, when it rains, it pours. but at least hernia surgeries aren’t too serious, I had one myself a couple of years ago, and knowing halfords determination, I’m sure he won’t let it slow him down one bit!
Had a couple surgeries I regards to Hernia. It is very painful to work without surgery….especially while performing. You can go without t if you’re not playing sports or being a performer so Robs best option is to get it done……because if he doesn’t he will pay show after show for it. Best wishes Rob….Joe in The Cuse
He said stomach, that is major. Cancer surgery is my guess.
Lee,
Are you referring to Halford?
If you read the story, he said he has a hernia. I am not sure where you got cancer from? If you weren’t talking about the Metal God, I apologize and just disregard my comment.

Easy, quick, fast recovery. Had 10 surgeries past 12 years including open heart, femoral artery bypass (nasty) and a 14 inch abdominal hernia. Scars are cool.
Saw Priest/Motörhead/Heaven and Hell with metal staples still in my chest from open heart.
We are, after all, Metal.
Mark,
You poor thing 🙁 My grandmother always told me as a young girl “if you don’t have your health, you don’t have anything.” She was right and I wish you the best of health.

I’ll tell you what Dana, that Mark chap must be made of Metal if he could get through 3 gigs after open heart surgery!
I remember hearing King Diamond say that not long after he had bypass surgery, he went on stage with Volbeat during their sound check and the noise made his chest rattle, so much so that he had to get off stage!!
