IT’S A SLOW NEWS DAY, CAN YOU PLEASE HELP ME OUT WITH THIS SONG?

Hello all, I was watching The Kelly Clarkson Show (like I always do, as I am a huge fan, of her singing voice) and she covered a song, by a country artist, named Luke Combs.

The song is called, Ain’t No Love in Oklahoma, and I know this melody, sounds very similar, if not practically the same, to an ’80s, or early ’90s, hard rock song, but which one?

I came up with, Jon Bon Jovi‘s Blaze Of Glory, but it is definitely another tune, as well? Listen to it, and let me know what song you think this is highly reminiscent of?

Finally, since I am not a huge country music fan, I had never heard this song before (and never saw the Twisters movie). So, if this is an older tune, please forgive me, it is new to me.

I really like, but it is because it is clearly sounds like a retro hard rock melody. 🙂

For those Clarkson fans, who want to hear her cover version, here it is:

    1. I was thinking maybe Cinderella, Badlands or The Cult, but I just cannot put my finger on the exact song?

      Thank you, for the suggestion.

    2. Thanks, Doug!

When, and if, someone hits on the exact song, that is escaping me, I will know it. It is so frustrating, when the mind goes-LOL!

Definitely sounds a little Night Songs…ish.

    1. Hi Robert,

It is so funny that you should write that, my friend said the same thing to me. almost a decade ago. She said that Country music, has sort of morphed into 80s hard rock, with fiddles-LOL! Too funny.

  1. Hello Dana

Now, the tuning is different (sounds like it’s possibly Drop C), however when I first heard it I heard ‘Lil Devil by the Cult.

The country song is also slower, but I opened up a second tab and played them over the top of each other, and the melody, which you mentioned in the main post is very much ‘Lil Devil; particularly the chorus.

What do you think – do you hear it?

    1. Hello my British buddy,

How are you? Thank you, for trying to help me figure out, what song this sounds like.

Actually, I hear American Horse, a bit more. However, not being a musician, I will defer to those who play. As I wrote to Doug below, if someone gets the exact song I hear in my head, but cannot remember, I will know, it.

Again, thank you so much for your suggestion.

  2. Hi Dana, to me, this song sounds like “Night Songs” by Cinderella.

Unrelated, here’s some “news” for you….I got the newest copy of Guitar World magazine and there’s a two page article in it about John Sykes.

    1. Rattle,

Thank you for your your opinion. 🙂 It’s really interesting, how most people seem to think, it sounds like a Cinderella song. 🙂

Regarding Sykes, I will check, and see, if they have the story on their online site. If they don’t, do you think there is anyway you could scan it, or take photos of the article, and email it to me?

      Again, thanks!

    1. Hi Doug,

Thanks for your input. I am still waiting, on that elusive song, that will get makes me react, “That’s it, thanks!”

As for Clarkson, she is one of my all time favorite female vocalists. However, I will add, Luke Combs, can sing his Texas butt off, as well. Those are two big voices (Clarkson and Combs) coming out of the lone star state. Yeeehaw!
