  1. Heck yeah!
I’m hoping he’s enjoying his children and grandchildren. He has given us much more great music, more than we deserve. Even if we never hear another note () Thanks for sharing your talent with us John!

  2. Jellyroll from Blue Murder should have been a huge crossover hit. Such a great song with great lyrics, it was tailor made for MTV, so surprised it wasn’t huge.

Shame what happened to John with the whole Whitesnake thing, he doesn’t get the recognition he deserves. He has such a great sound that is distinctive to him, but I bet so many people don’t even know he played on that album.

    1. Michael,

I completely agree. I think Sykes’ chords on that song are timeless, and apparently not easy to play, either.

  3. Jellyroll is one of my favorite songs of all time. I added to all my playlists.

I have so many songs no one has heard of that are on my daily playlists…don’t get me wrong, I love popular songs as well, but there are so many songs that did absolutely nothing that are amazing. Would love to do a top 10 or 20 songs that no one may have ever heard…Jellyroll would 100% be in the top 5!!

    1. Michael,

While I can do without the, “Love will break your heart,” section of the song, the rest, especially his fast acoustic playing, is amazing, and beyond, catchy.

  4. Dana,
The ” Love will break your heart” is the Best part of the song with Sykes outro, wailing guitar solo. Otherwise it would have been just another Zeppelin clone stomper which was dominating the airwaves with these “hair bands” back in the day.
I even enjoy the cheesy video. It’s a guilty pleasure of mine. John got the privilege of lip locking with a very attractive female blonde.

    1. Jeff,

Yes, there is no doubt, that his playing underneath the,”Love will break your heart,” part, is great. But, I have never been a ballads type of gal, so I much prefer the upbeat section of the song. Which again, I hear it very difficult to play, as it requires sliding up the neck very quickly from one chord to the other. Ironically, even though I don’t like ballads, two that I happen to like, are Sykes’: She Knows and Wuthering Heights.

As for the Jelly Roll video, yes, the female lead is very pretty, but John is a thousand times prettier. Back then, he was on par with Brad Pitt, maybe even better looking? I thought he was the hottest thing, ever. In the comments section under the Jelly Roll video on YouTube, a poster wrote, “John Sykes is porno for women,” I have to agree with that comment. LOL!!

But for me, physically, I thought he was at his prime, when he was in Whitesnake. To me, he was perfection. No wonder why Coverdale’s mother told him, he would never get any women with John standing next to him. I am sure that contributed to the issues, that eventually followed, later on.
