GUITARIST ACE FREHLEY SAYS HE WOULD REUNITE WITH KISS, BUT NOT FOR “TOMMY THAYER’S SALARY”

Guitarist Ace Frehley says he participate in a KISS reunion with all the original members, but only if the price is right. Speaking exclusively to Rock Candy‘s Dave Reynolds for a 12-page cover story in the latest issue of the magazine, Excerpts from the feature appear below [as per blabbermouth.net.].

“It would be nice to go back out again with them,” Frehley said. “But it’s not my call. I think we have a really good relationship now. I text Paul back and forth and we’ve worked together, as I have with Gene. I would seriously consider it, but the money would have to be right. I’m not gonna take Tommy Thayer’s salary.”

“It would certainly sell more tickets with me involved,” he added. “I have a gut feeling it will happen.”

Ace acknowledges that he wasn’t always the easiest to work with, given his acknowledged addictions with alcohol and drugs.

“I know that I put those guys through hell in the past,” he conceded. “Sometimes I was too drunk at soundchecks, but sobriety has made me more dependable and reliable.” Frehley says he’s been sober for 13 years now, and would be fit to rejoin the band, for what would be an unforgettable experience, especially if original drummer Peter Criss were to come back into the fold.

“It would be really exciting,” he said. “Not just for me, but also for the fans. I’m ready. I feel reborn.”

  1. Saw these guys in recent (sold out) show in Denver. No matter one’s thoughts on Thayer and Singer; I agree, Gene and Paul do not need Ace or Peter. Good to hear that Ace is playing better these days, and “cheers” to him, but Thayer and Singer are playing just fine, also. BTW, it’s not Thayer’s fault that KISS hired him. He’s a good guitar player, doing his job and doing it well. (And I get the whole, well he should not be in Ace’s character thing.)

    1. I saw them back in March. Great show. The sold out crowd was just fine without Ace and Peter.

  2. I saw Ace live earlier this summer. He was phenomenal. As far as the personal stuff goes? That’s between them. The quality of the music with either guitarist or drummer would probably be the same but the vocals and swagger would make for a more charismatic show. I hope it happens and I want to see it.

  3. Hard 2 take Mr.Frehley seriously after reading in Mr.Peter Criss’ autobiography that he ended up blowing Mr.Criss & Mr. Criss allowed it.

That may possibly explain why neither of those dudes are in KISS anymore.
