GEORGE LYNCH CHANGES HIS MIND ABOUT RETIRING LYNCH MOB

Legendary guitarist George Lynch, recently spoke with Dawn Osborne of TotalRock, about why he is still playing shows under the Lynch Mob banner, nearly a year after the completion of the band’s The Final Ride farewell tour celebrating the band’s 35-year legacy.

Lynch explains (as transcribed via blabbermouth.net), ” I’ve learned something through all this, and I was talking to [bassist] Jaron [Gulino (Tantric, Heaven’s Edge)] about this the other day. I’ve learned that I shouldn’t be making any decisions at all about anything other than which notes I’m gonna play and which chords I’m gonna put together to write a song. And that’s about it.”

Asked by Osborne if that means that Dancing With The Devil is, in fact, not Lynch Mob’s “final” studio album, despite the fact that it was marketed as such by Frontiers Music Srl prior to its release, Lynch said: “No, it’s not.” He then added: “I did stop [Lynch Mob] for 24 hours — until I got bored. Because in that 24 hours I was kind of on the porch and I had this rocking chair and I had one of those ear things so you can hear good. And my little dog was there, [and I was] just smoking a straw pipe, my corn cob pipe. And my wife says, ‘Honey, you want some more lemonade?’ And she goes, ‘You wanna get back on the road. You wanna be back out with your boys, right?’ I go, ‘Yeah.’ So, yeah, the next day I got back out there. It was really interesting. My agent was, like, ‘You can’t quit. We’ve got all these gigs and everything.’ And then I go, ‘Well, I’m just getting older, man. I probably should not keep doing this.’ ‘Cause I felt I was looking silly up on stage at 71… You know, it was, like, make room for other people and go do other stuff. But all of a sudden I got all these offers from my agent. And I think what happened was when people thought it was the end, all of a sudden they appreciate you. It’s like after you die and they say all this nice shit about you, but the day before, they weren’t. You know what I’m saying? You know what I mean? And all of a sudden we’re the greatest band since sliced bread. It was, like, ‘Oh, Lynch Mob. I wish we would’ve appreciated them when they were still together.’ So we’re, like, ‘Okay, we’ll reluctantly come back and play your stupid gig.’ And then we’ve done about a hundred more since then. But our new album is gonna be called The Final, Final Ride. Not kidding.”

  1. Amazing! I think everyone wants the Lynch mob to continue!! I have a couple of music releases that I have to mention. If you don’t have these, then go buy them. The deluxe Led Zeppelin CDs. The remasters are 10 times better than the originals! Zep 2, Presence and Physical Graffiti all sound like different songs. Robert’s voice is amazing now! You can hear every note crystal clear! The other release is a live recording that I recently got to listen to and was shocked by the emotion and rawness and the power in her voice! And the band really jams!!I am talking about Pat Benatar 8-15-80 live! I have the double cd Inamorata. It is the second disc. I think it was recorded right before the Precious Time masterpiece! There is 12 songs and my favorite live album to start the new Year!

    1. Thank you for the heads up on both of these. LZ is one of my top 5, and Pat Benatar/Neil Giraldo…..we’ve seen 4 times and my wife has been a fan since the beginning. To be honest, all of us have like PB songs since the beginning.

  2. I loved the early Lynch Mob records. George hasn’t put out anything great in a long time. He tricked me into buying this “last” studio album. It’s pretty weak and I’m struggling to get through it.

    1. I agree, Wicked Sensation, is one of my top five, all time favorite albums. I still listen to it, to this day.

The second self titled album, with Robert Mason, on vocals, is also good, but not as good as Wicked Sensation. However, Tangled In The Web is a great song, kinda sexy. 🙂

  3. Totally agree on the first two albums. Title track to Wicked Sensation has one of those intros that immediately draws you in…That opening track “holy S$%T”
    moment LOL.

Tangled In The Web, Jungle of Love are great tracks off the self-titled album. But the track I go back to frequently as my favorite Lynch Mob song is Dream Until Tomorrow. Probably not everyone’s cup of tea, as you could put it as a “power ballad”. But the way this track carries itself, great lyrics & hooks and classic Lynch throughout. Just a really cool tune IMO

  4. I agree with Dana wicked sensation great album , second one good. And for me that’s it I haven’t anything good since the 2nd album , george is a great guitarist not a great songwriter
