Ozzy Osbourne and Sharon Osbourne are moving out of Los Angeles and returning to the UK after 20 years stateside due to rising taxes in California, reports the Mirror.
The Black Sabbath legend, 73, and his wife, 69, are to head back to their home Welders House, in Buckinghamshire, with him having spoken about their plans recently.
The singer-songwriter explained, “We are leaving LA. We are a bit sad. But the tax is getting too much. I am sad because I really really like staying and living there.”
He further commented, “If they do the taxes better then I may come back. I do not know.”
“I am taking my recording studio with me. I am going to build a barn there and make my own studio at Welders. I will still be making music and my band will come over,” he added.
It’s understood that the US federal tax rate is 28%, and there is an additional 13% state tax in California, which the award-winning musician is said to pay on all his profits.
Osbourne has also spoken about how he is battling mental health problems as he struggled to cope with Parkinson’s, the pandemic and recovery from operations.
He explained, “Over the past three years I have got a therapist. When I was a kid in England, you would not go to a therapist because they’d think you were f*****g crazy.”
The singer-songwriter further commented, “It is OK. You ain’t stupid for going to a f*****g therapist, but you are stupid not to go if you need them…”

When even wealthy people like Ozzy Osbourne and Gene Simmons can’t even afford to live comfortably in California anymore, something’s really wrong! I predict in the very near future California will just become a giant ghost town, if it hasn’t already. Time for Ozzy to “Sail Across The Ocean!” 😉
… or to Florida.
That’s true, John, Florida is always an option, for now…
Back in the day The Beatles and The Stones fled England as tax exiles, and now we have rock stars fleeing CA because of high Democratic taxes. Amazing irony.
Mass exodus of the LA area these last couple of years. My cousin who lived in Malibu in the Dume Point area and left due to taxes, oil pollution and homeless situation in the city.
Yes, it has been happening in New York, as well, especially Manhattan. My fear is, when the rich decide to move, or leave, the Nation, or individual states, continue into a downward spiral. This is not a positive sign.
Wow, I agree with every single comment here! See, we all have alot more in common than we realize!
Dana: You get what you vote for!
As a New Yorker, I can tell you, our system is broken and rife with fraud. The New York Post even confirmed what I have been saying for years and did an expose on it.
I’ve lived in the San Diego area of California my whole life. Yes, taxes are high in this State, and its high taxes has also resulted in businesses relocating to other States, taking its jobs with them. Not good, considering California has a high unemployment rate compared to rest of the States.
But based on results of the last Census data collected as of Dec 2020, California’s population continues to increase. People have left the State for various reasons, but people are still relocating to California cuz it provides a great quality of life. Where I live, I could go dune buggying in the desert, go skiing in the mountains, and go surfing at the beach….all in the same day! I am located in the best part of California for weather, in the San Diego area that was recently declared the most expensive place to live in the United States. All my family is here, a great qualify of life is here, and the ocean is just a few minutes drive from my house. I will never leave San Diego.
Californians have joked we don’t want any more people to come to our State for fear it will result in California falling into the Pacific Ocean. California has too many people already. Traffic is bad, demand for housing has skyrocketed home prices, and development is never ending. Taxes are high cuz of the qualify of life provided by California living.
So, to Ozzy and Gene Simmons, good bye…..and take with you all. the other transplants that came to California, cuz we already have too many people in this State.
California’s Motto to Visitors – Welcome to California….Now Go Home.
LOL!! Rattle, I hate to break it to you, but Simmons is moving back, his family misses your state and are not fans of the Nevada heat.
As for my state, New York, I hear through the grapevine, that for as many people who are fleeing, plenty are moving here. But as someone who observes the day-to-day, I don’t buy it. Too many corporations have moved out, or have employees working from home, mid town has a lot of buildings that are empty, or have very few renters. The city, which was once one of the greatest in the world, has been reduced to one of the worst. 🙁
Hi Dana, I thought Gene Simmons was moving to the Pacific Northwest, not back to California?
I think another reason for the Osbournes moving away from Los Angeles, CA is because the Osbournes’ star isn’t shining as bright as it used to shine, as Sharon is no longer on The View.
For someone who thinks he’s very smart, I think Gene Simmons was not very smart to buy a house in Las Vegas wirhout knowing how hot it is there….over 100 degrees, cuz I understand he sold his Vegas home cuz of the Vegas heat….irregardless if he profited from the transaction.
Hi Rattle,
Here’s one of the articles, After a Big Stink, Gene Simmons Returns to Beverly Hills: https://www.dirt.com/gallery/entertainers/musicians/gene-simmons-house-beverly-hills-1203434516/genesimmons_bhpo3-2/.
Also, Osbourne was on The Talk, which was basically a View rip-off, despite their saying it was Sarah Gilbert’s idea to create The Talk…y’okay. Either way, both shows are annoying, whining hen fests and completely unwatchable.
I wonder if the Osbourne children, Amiee, Kelly and Jack, who has three American born daughters, will all remain Stateside?
Hi Dana, thanks for sharing the story….I didn’t know Gene returned to California……time to put his new house on the “Celebrity Home” bus tour for all the tourists to see…..
LOL!!!! Well, if he hawk some KISS merch when the bus stops, I am sure he will. LOL!!
Not to go down a rabbit hole, but I live in Kentucky and real estate prices have gotten stupid. People coming in from out of state and inflating values. I’m not sure how you control it because I don’t blame them for coming as they can buy a whole lot of land and/or house for a fraction of where they came from. But pretty soon it’s the same place they left. What then?
Nathan,
I hear you, it’s a conundrum. My Dad lives in Florida, and the people down there, feel the same way.
