DOKKEN DRUMMER MICK BROWN SAYS THE TENSION BETWEEN DON DOKKEN AND GEORGE LYNCH HAVE ALREADY BEGUN, AHEAD OF JAPANESE TOUR DATES. ADDS, “I THINK IT’S VERY SAD WHEN GROWN MEN ACT [THIS] WAY”

Dokken frontman Don Dokken and guitarist George Lynch have begun snapping at each other ahead of the band’s reunion shows in Japan, says drummer Mick Brown – and he adds that he’s tired of it.

The classic lineup, also featuring Jeff Pilson, are set to pay six gigs in October, before Dokken revert to the current formation featuring Dokken, Brown, Jon Levin and Chris McCarvill.

The vocalist said earlier this month that the brief tour was “about money” and argued that the same was true of the Guns N’ Roses reunion.

Brown tells Focus On Metal, “Nothing’s changed. George and Don, during the conversations to get this going, they’re already starting up.

Jeff seems excited about it. I would like to see it happen. There’s not much time – Jeff has only got a 10 or 12 day window to do this.

We don’t have time for much bickering. I’m a little standoffish about it. Maybe I’ll get a good feeling from it when it happens. I hope so.”

The drummer says he’d be delighted if the reunion was for artistic reasons, but continues, “I don’t feel that way. It’s a money thing, and the money’s too good.

I’m tired of the bad-attitude stuff. You put Don and George together and it just starts happening again, and then it gets really confusing.

I think it’s very sad when grown men act that way, and I’m tired of being around it. But here we go.”

Brown adds, “Listen, for that kind of money, I’ll shut up and do what we used to do. Jeff and I will stand there and go just the same way we did before.”

With no further reunion shows planned, he reflects: “If we blink this will be over. What’s probably going to happen is we’ll end up doing it, it’ll come off really well, then they’re going to talk about doing it again. And I’ll be like, ‘Oh man, here we go, all over again!’”

  1. Unless it sleets, or there’s a blizzard, I’m going to that SD gig, it’s just a few hours for me to drive now..

My guess, is both Don and George think that the other is just ungrateful for the other….

George added so much more to those songs than mere, as Don says, “masturabatory guitar playing..” no, there’s a narrative disposition, and compositional aspect to George’s contributions..just check his bend in “Into the Fire,” which captures that song’s perspective as much, or more, than those lyrics..George has soul…he’s a spiritual player…

So, this is personal, George…he’s not exactly the easiest guy to get along with, nor work with…he will make your best intentions seem futile…that’s all I”m gonna say.

    1. Ok, but who else could’ve sold those songs like Don did? I can’t think of anybody…

    2. Wild Mick or Pilson. Unfortunately the name Brown wasn’t a good band name. And Pilson didn’t rhyme with Rock’n.

    3. DR,

I was going to say Pilson as well. I loved Brown’s version of Tooth and Nail on One Live Night, as well. He has that gravely voice, and if he did write a good portion of Wicked Sensation, which another poster mentioned that he thought he might have, then he is beyond talented. That Lynch Mob record is one of my all time favorite albums.

      D 🙂

    4. ..Pilson is a back up singer, so is Brown……and besides, it’s the sum, it’s chemistry, that’s what makes a band. Dokken is those four, and besides, it’s not like Don never contributed. Jesus, unbelievable you guys.

    5. Ya Dana we’ve talked about that in the past. Wicked Sensation was so over the top great. I used to think that was the record Dokken should have released. Oni’s vocals are just incredible…what a debut. I had the cassette, CD, and now it’s on my google play and itunes. Even my 11 year old who is starting guitar thinks it’s incredible. Pilson can flat out sing. Over the years that I saw Dokken I was impressed with both him and Mick on back up vocals, and the whole T+N thing confirmed that for me. After all these years I still can’t decide what my favorite song is on Wicked Sensation. It’s always between For a Million Years, She’s so evil but she’s mine, or Dance of the Dogs.

    6. Agreed, that album has so many great songs, it is hard to decide. George’s playing on, Rain, is amazing.

It really says something about a record, when it was released 26 years ago, and you still want to listen to it, and it does not sound dated. A phenomenal effort by Lynch and company.

BTW, sounds like your son has great taste. 😉

      D 🙂

  2. again more folks living in a world of fantasy ,if these guys had to work for a living the rest of us do,they would act like grown ups,but they make great money, and act like spoiled children, unreal….

    1. Honestly bro, after reading this story, it just popped into my head, this was a pretty easy one! 😉 But I do feel sorry for Mick & Jeff, after all these years, they must be sick and tired of refereeing for Don & George!
