In NO particular order……….there is a rapidly developing, somewhat eclectic playlist on Spotify called:
DAILY DEEP CUTS PAGE. My intent is to update it daily……or at least weekly. I’ve been enjoying listening to unfamiliar music, and some that are truly deep cuts from my youth.
Four mile run this morning…the NWOBHM band Raven was the inspiration. Daily “deep cut” for today is the song “Chainsaw” off their terrific “Wiped Out” album. Fast tempo song, as are most Raven songs. This band is the first NWOBHM band I ever heard, even before Maiden. They also took Metallica on their first U.S. tour on the “Kill Em All for One” tour, which I saw.
Too Late – Stone Fury…a real breakup song, sung from the heart. Lenny Wolf’s phrasing and anunciation just pitch perfect, this German kid who has as much soul as any singer alive or dead. He’s inside the songs he sings…a storyteller, that is what singing is supposed to be. The music is as if Giorgio Moroder produced Led Zeppelin…forget trying to be clever for its own sake…this is a real song. Finally, the song has this great effect of climaxing by going from the drum machine to the live drummer, and it’s Vinnie Colaiuta for God’s sake man, this song is the Concorde jet of pop songs.
