W.A.S.P FRONTMAN BLACKIE LAWLESS SAYS THE BAND WILL RELEASE A NEW ALBUM CALLED “GOLGOTHA” IN 2015

blackielawless400 W.A.S.P. will be returning with a new studio album entitled Golgotha next year, one that founder and frontman Blackie Lawless says will sound similar to 2009’s Babylon and 2007’s Dominator.

“We’re about three weeks away from finishing the next one, so it will be out next year and it will be called Golgotha,” Lawless announced at a Sweden Rock Festival press conference. “Golgotha is Hebrew for place of the skull and it’s the hill where Christ was crucified. It’s interesting when you see a lot of bands going around using Satanic images, or images of death and things like that, and I’m thinking all they need to do is look at the source cause it’s right there. If you want death, there’s enough to go around there.”

As for what fans can expect musically from Golgotha, Lawless says, “It sounds… probably more similar to the last two that we’ve done. We’ve been working on this thing for four years now, and I don’t know if you guys heard but I had a little hiccup last year, and that delayed recording for about a year. I broke my leg — that too was an interesting trip (laughs). There’s one thing I learned when I was doing The Crimson Idol. If you make a record over too long of periods of time you have to be very, very careful because the record you start out making is not the record you end up finishing because you’ve changed so much as a person over a three or four year period. You’ve got to be very careful to hold onto that vision. But from what I’m hearing so far, and it’s not completely mixed yet, but it has definite overtones of the last two records.”

Lawless also addressed his decision to stop playing the W.A.S.P. classic Animal (Fucks Like A Beast by saying, “”I look at it like this. I’m a representative of the most high God, and I have to be very careful about the things I say and do. I’m gonna answer one day for the things that I’ve done and I wanna make sure that when I do, that my slate is clean. But equally as important as that, I think, is I’ve been given an opportunity to stand in front of people and you’re either gonna say something positive or you’re gonna say something mindless –there is no in between. You’re either one or the other. And I’m just trying my best, and I’m not saying that I’m doing it all the time, but I’m trying my best to say something that I think could help somebody’s life.”

TED NUGENT PREMIERES NEW SINGLE “SHE’S GONE” FEATURING SAMMY HAGAR ONLINE, LISTEN HERE

TedNugentbuffalo Today, June 9th, multi-platinum guitar icon Ted Nugent premiered the first single She’s Gone featuring Sammy Hagar–off his new studio album SHUTUP&JAM! (out Tuesday, July 8th on Frontiers Records)–on Ultimateclassicrock.com, listen to it below.

Special guest Sammy Hagar brings his vocal power to She’s Gone for an epic lead vocal duet with Nugent. The song also features a special performance from one of the most respected drummers in rock, Johnny “Bee” Badanjek of the legendary Detroit band Mitch Ryder & The Detroit Wheels. SHUTUP&JAM! marks the first all-new studio album from the Motor City Madman in seven years. Nugent leads the pack of renowned musicians, handling guitar and vocal duties, alongside bassist Greg Smith, drummer Mick Brown and longtime musical cohort guitarist/vocalist Derek St. Holmes. SHUTUP&JAM! is available now for pre-order at Amazon and iTunes for fans who pre-order the album there (for those who don’t know, this means the song will automatically download to their iTunes once they complete the pre-order purchase).

Nugent declares, “My guitar has never gently weeped, but she does suckerpunch me mercilessly at regular intervals. She’s Gone is just another example of what we do together every day after I complete my ranch chores at home in Texas, and the MotorCity soulmusic slugfest erupts into spiritual love songs like this. Sammy Hagar said he wasn’t interested in writing or singing any more pop songs, so he fell in love with this masterpiece jammout instantly. Clearly Sammy and I deserve each other. And she’s gone.”

Hagar shares of his involvement on the track She’s Gone: “When I first heard Ted’s demo of this song, I immediately responded with ‘I’m in.’ Ted’s ripping the guitar like the days of old…very inspiring to sing to a track like that—old-school blues riff, hard edged rock n’ roll on fire!!!”

To coincide with the release of SHUTUP&JAM!, Ted has announced that he’s packing up and hitting the road. EXODUS PART WAYS WITH SINGER ROB DUKES, FORMER VOCALIST STEVE SOUZA RETURNS TO THE BAND

exodus2013 Exodus have parted ways with their singer of the past nine years, Rob Dukes, reveals blabbermouth.net.

Guitarist Gary Holt has released the following statement: “As a band, we all had to make a very difficult choice to part ways with [singer] Rob Dukes. We have nothing but love and admiration for him and the deepest gratitude for the hard work he has put in and the great work on some killer records. But at this time, Tom [Hunting, drums], Lee [Altus, guitar], Jack [Gibson, bass] and myself thought a change was necessary and the unanimous choice going forward was to welcome back Steve Souza to the fold!”

Adds Souza: “I spent a great part of my life with Exodus. That blood flows through me, [and] even not being in the band for the past 10 years, you can’t erase that chemistry. I’m very excited!”

Dukes joined the band in January 2005 as the replacement for Steve “Zetro” Souza, who was fired from the group in September 2004. Rob has appeared on four studio albums — Shovel Headed Kill Machine (2005), The Atrocity Exhibition… Exhibit A (2007), Let There Be Blood (2008, a re-recording of Exodus’ classic 1985 LP, Bonded By Blood) and “Exhibit B: The Human Condition (2010) — and has released two studio albums with his Generation Kill project, 2011’s Red White And Blood and 2013’s We’re All Gonna Die.

Exodus’ next live appearance is scheduled for July 11 at the Bang Your Head!!! festival in Balingen, Germany.

tonyiommidegree Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi is to pass on his years of experience in the music industry to students at Coventry University.

Iommi was awarded an Honorary Doctorate Of Arts by the university last year and has now been handed the role of Visiting Professor Of Music.

The 66-year-old was introduced to students at the uni’s Department for Performing Arts last month on his first official engagement on campus. Tony spent the afternoon talking to students and staff and answering questions about his 50-year career in the music business.

Dr Geoff Willcocks, the university’s Director Of Arts And Culture, said, “To watch Tony interact with the students was an absolute privilege. He was incredibly generous and open with them about all aspects of his work.

Tony is without doubt a rock icon and he’s an inspiration to so many people around the world. It’s wonderful to have such an important and respected international figure working with us.”

Dr. Sara Reed, head Of Department For Performing Arts, added, “It is a tremendous honor to have Tony here with us as a Visiting Professor. GWAR SINGER DAVE BROCKIE, A.K.A. ODERUS URUNGUS, DEATH CAUSED BY A HEROIN OVERDOSE

gwar400 The Virginia medical examiner’s office says Dave Brockie, the frontman for the heavy metal band Gwar, died of an accidental heroin overdose.

Brockie — who went by the stage name Oderus Urungus — was found dead in his Richmond home on March 23rd. He was 50.

Arkuie Williams, administrator at the chief medical examiner’s office, said on June 3rd that Brockie’s cause of death was acute heroin toxicity.

The Grammy-nominated band Gwar was founded in 1984 and is known for its comically grotesque costumes, stage antics and vulgar lyrics.

Gwar released its latest album in 2013 and recently toured Australia and Japan.

Brockie remained a constant in the band, which has had a revolving door of members. In 2011, 34-year-old lead guitarist Cory Smoot was found dead on the band’s tour bus.
