AC/DC DRUMMER PHIL RUDD TO RELEASE SOLO ALBUM NEXT MONTH, POSTS FIRST LYRIC VIDEO ONLINE

philruddsoloband400 AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd will release a solo album called Head Job which will be released on August 29th through Universal Music Australia.

Rudd had released a lyric video for the song Repo Man. Watch it below.

Over the past 20 years or so amidst spending time drumming for Australia’s favorite rock export AC/DC, running a studio and a restaurant, racing cars, flying helicopters and a bit of farming in the land of the long white cloud; Melbourne-born drummer Phil Rudd has been quietly writing an album worth of songs which will see the light of day next month.

From the rollicking first single Repo Man, a gentle reminder about karma; to the rocking title track Head Job, which does not have intimate connotations but is a play on words about going to the pub to commiserate with your mates about someone doing your head in… from the upbeat dirgy groove of Bad Move to the relationship-driven Crazy; Rudd has delivered a very personal album “about the shit that goes on,” as the great man himself said.

Perhaps with the exception of 40 Days & 40 Nights, these songs were more inspired by everyday personal experiences in life rather than being about touring the globe with the world’s biggest rock band.

Citing influences ranging from Ringo Starr and Free/Bad Company’s Simon Kirke, to Moutain’s Leslie West and AC/DC bandmates Malcolm and Angus Young, these songs and lyrics are all very special to Rudd and when talking about the release of this album which has had such a long gestation, he said, “I’m very happy for it to finally make its way out there and for people to hear it!”

The songs were penned primarily by Rudd with the assistance of Allan Badger and Geoffrey Martin — musicians Phil met on the local scene, which he says “turned out to be a great musical partnership.” “Badge” and Martin also perform vocals, guitars and bass on the album, with Rudd sitting in the producer’s seat. The tracks came together over a period of time recorded at several locations including the studio that Rudd built himself not far from his restaurant Phil’s Place in Tauranga, New Zealand.

“I hope everyone thinks this is a great album from start to finish because that’s the idea,” Rudd told Triple M (hear audio below). “We didn’t put anything on there that we didn’t like. There’s no filler. There’s plenty of Phil, but no filler.”

Rudd also commented on the new AC/DC album which the band recently finished recording at Bryan Adams’ studio in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

“We’re happy to have it done and it’s all very good, by the way,” he said. “There’s no comparisons between the two [the new AC/DC album and Head Job], but they’re both very good.”

Rudd joined AC/DC in 1974. He had previously played with Angry Anderson in Buster Brown and left that band to join the Coloured Balls with Lobby Loyde.

When AC/DC bassist Mark Evans left the band in 1977, Rudd became the only Australian-born member of AC/DC.

Rudd exited AC/DC in 1983 and was replaced by Simon Wright, then Chris Slade. When Slade left in 1993, Rudd rejoined the band.

KISS’ GENE SIMMONS SAYS THE BAND WOULD NEVER REUNITE WITH FORMER BAND MEMBERS ACE FREHLEY AND PETER CRISS

Gene-Simmons400 KISS’ singing bassist Gene Simmons says that although the band have reunited with former members Ace Frehley (guitar) and Peter Criss (drums) in the past, that fans should not expect that to happen in the future.

Speaking with The Tampa Tribute, Simmons was asked if the band would ever consider reuniting if their two estranged members “cleaned up their act.” The bassist stated, “Not a chance. We’ve already danced that dance three different times. No way will we reunite. It wouldn’t be fair to [current members] Tommy [Thayer] and Eric [Singer]. It wouldn’t be right.”

Simmons also addressed the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction with Criss and Frehley, adding, “We only did the induction with Ace and Peter because the fans wanted it. But it was a slap in the fact that they didn’t acknowledge Tommy Thayer and Eric. They’ve been in the band longer than Ace and Peter. If the Grateful Dead can have 10 members in and out of the band and a lyricist who was never in the band in the Hall, how can you explain that?”

KISS are currently on tour with Def Leppard.

7/18: BACK FROM SC, PODCAST WEEK 2, BLITZ, TMS, MORE

Just back from a few days with the family in Myrtle Beach SC. Also did a signing at a great store at Broadway At The Beach called Retroactive. Had a huge turn out and the signing went for over 3 hours. So grateful to Amy and Amy from the store and my local radio affiliate Rock 107 for the support. Was really a good one and my thanks to all who came out. Many asked if I went to the Kiss coffee house. They had requested me there many times over the years and would have at least stopped in, however the place is no longer there and out of business. But met so many great rock fans and had a great time. Was cool to check out Myrtle Beach as well for the first time. TONS of families with kids which I contributed to. If you are in that boat it’s great. If you want a vacation without a million kids I would not ever go during the Summer when schools are out. Next event for me is hosting a concert at Thunder Valley in Lincoln CA with Don & Jim that features Anthrax, Living Colour, Corey Taylor and Burned Halo one week from tonight. This is NOT a TMS taping however should be a fun show. We will be there Friday and Saturday and I will have both of my books for sale there as well. Hope to see you if coming, more soon.

My new podcast is up now with Blitz from Overkill. Hope you are all enjoying episode 2 of The Eddie Trunk Podcast. It is FREE and available worldwide via Itunes and www.podcastone.com THANK YOU for making my debut a top 10 podcast overall and #1 music on Itunes last week! So many great interviews and other things I will do in the podcast world as we go forward. This is all new to me so appreciate all the feedback and support. FYI music and songs can not be played on podcasts for publishing reasons. It is an all talk format.

ALL NEW “Eddie Trunk Rocks” FM/syndicated show this weekend on usual affiliates on days and times listed. Remember back on AAF/Boston now Friday nights 11P-2A. This weekends show features a visit from Blitz from Overkill and new music from the band as well.

I do not know when TMS will tape next. I only know we will for sure at some point. Probably not for a while unfortunately. These decisions are NOT up to me and I get as frustrated as you guys with the things you’d like to see happen with the show. Once I know from the network when we will shoot next I will post. Enjoy the many replays for now. Thanks.

Benefit show tomorrow in Garwood NJ at Crossroads with Blitz from Overkill, Mark & Dave of TT Quick and more. I’m going to try and swing by also.

Finally happy birthday to my Mom Rose today!

JUDAS PRIEST GUITARIST GLENN TIPTON ON “EPITAPH” BEING THE BAND’S FAREWELL TOUR: ” WE LIED”

judaspriest640 Judas Priest frontman Rob Halford and guitarist Glenn Tipton discuss why they are still touring despite claiming in the past that they were going to stop.

According to blabbermouth.net, Tipton explained on last week’s Rockline: “We, uh, lied. [laughs] The statement we made was we’re gonna do no more world tours. As we said before, it takes a massive chunk out of your life. It’s pretty arduous out there — almost two years, the last one, playing two and a half hours every night, four or five shows a week. But we enjoyed every second of it. And we said that at the end of it, we weren’t gonna do any more world tours, but we didn’t’ rule out any dates. And we just got so enthused with the new album and everything that we put some dates in and we’ll see where it goes from there.”

When asked by Rockline host Bob Coburn if it’s fair to say retirement didn’t work out for the band at all, Tipton replied, “We lied. We lied. We didn’t mean to.” Halford added, “Actually, it’s Richie Faulkner’s fault; let’s blame Richie. We can’t overemphasize the importance of having Richie with us at this point in our career.”

He continued, “When Richie joined us for the Epitaph tour, extraordinary things were happening night after night after night. And that, accompanied with some of the things that Richie was doing backstage before the show, laying down licks with his little portable recording gear, it was just this energy that was just out of control. So, naturally, when you come off a tour like that and you digest everything, you’re just raring to go and we couldn’t wait to get into the writing mode and start making music for Redeemer Of Souls together.”

As previously reported, Redeemer Of Souls is number six on The Billboard 200 chart. The band has also added some additional tour dates to their North American tour, click here to see the itinerary.

BUCKCHERRY TO RELEASE “F@&K” EP NEXT MONTH

buckcherryfyou640 Buckcherry are to release the radio unfriendly Fuck EP on August 19th – with each of the six tracks featuring the four-letter word in the title.

It includes a cover version of Icona Pop’s I Love It, which Buckcherry have renamed Say Fuck It.

The EP is the band’s first release since 2013’s album Confessions.

Singer Josh Todd says: “I’m a huge fan of EPs and I had a lot of them when I was a kid, so it’s going to be fun to put this one out. It’s nasty and it’s raw and it’s quintessential Buckcherry.

It was a lot of fun writing it and it was great to do this EP for me after doing Confessions, because Confessions was so heavy and deep and this EP is just reckless and fun. It’s probably one of my most fun little projects to do.”

Fuck tracklist:

1. Somebody Fucked With Me
2. Say Fuck It
3. Motherfucker
4. I Don’t Give A Fuck
5. It’s A Fucking Disaster
6. Fist Fuck
