Dana’s note: I just ran across this very interesting clip of Slaughter bassist, Dana Strum, discussing how he introduced Ozzy Osbourne to Randy Rhoads. This was a very entertaining interview, courtesy of 80’s Metal Recycle Bin, enjoy.

That was a great interview, incredible how much Dana sounds exactly like Ozzy! Just think, if not for Dana Strum, there never would’ve been a Blizzard Of Ozz, or a Diary Of A Madman!
Just thinking, Vinnie Vincent Invasion, Slaughter, Vince Neil’s solo band, wonder why Strum never became a part of Ozzy’s band? I think he would’ve fit right in. Ozzy was really fortunate to connect with Strum, first RR, and then (if I’m not mistaken) it was Strum who also introduced Ozzy to Jake! Who knows, with all his connections, maybe he also introduced Ozzy to Zakk! Dana became Ozzy’s guitar talent agent! 😉
Yes,
Dana does a pretty good Ozzy impression.
Thx Dana. Just when you think you`ve heard al the stories a new one pops up . Good stuff
You’re very welcome, Ray.
Very cool story. I think Joe Holmes is probably the least known Ozzy guitarist. Another Jersey guy, just like Zakk.
Great find, Dana. Thanks for sharing. I didn’t know Ozzy’s “first listen” to Rhoads was at a solo audition, of sorts. If Ozzy’s “first listen” to Rhoads’ guitar playing was with Quiet Riot, would Ozzy’s opinion of Rhoads’ talents have been different? Not even one Quiet Riot song even remotely captures the brilliance of Rhoads guitar skills cuz Quiet Riot has never been anything more than “bubble gum” rock.
