Guns N’ Roses frontman W.Axl Rose has penned the following piece at Billboard discussing the Red Hot Chili Peppers Super Bowl half time show performance.
He writes:
In The Name Of Science
In regard to the internet’s “no wireless” controversy regarding the Red Hot Chili Peppers Superbowl performance as reported on ESPN…
I enjoyed the show and I’ve no idea what the real story is nor would I want to suggest or imply anyone wasn’t actually performing or that what they were playing wasn’t what we actually heard. That said I feel it’s important to always look on the positive side of things and to give the benefit of doubt.
So consider that maybe sometime before their actual performance that rather than use a guitar cord or standard wireless, that in the name of science and for all mankind Flea courageously had a newly invented breakthrough in microchip technology installed in his ass that picked up the frequencies of his bass and transmitted them to his amplifier.
Maybe they all had microchips installed in their asses and not only pick up the frequencies of their instruments but get Direct TV and the internet too! Like Google Glass… Google Ass! They could be “Scientific Pioneers!” Like Buzz Aldrin and shit! True (pardon the pun)ASS-tro-nots! Or like Superbowl crash test dummies for bands kinda like those cars that drive themselves!
And besides… If the band wasn’t really playing or wireless or whatever and Anthony was really singing they may have set a new world record for the largest karaoke audience ever! Awesome!
So relax and show some pride! This is probably all just Google finding new ways to enrich our lives with the selfless volunteering of the Peppers and the ever ongoing creative process of true innovation or perhaps a new lounge bar record of super magnificent proportions and a new pinnacle of human achievement not seen since the sign language guy in South Africa!
God Bless America, the Peppers n’ technology… PN’T!
Ax
According to Rolling Stone, after RHCP’s bassist Flea admitted the band was “unplugged” during the performance, Rose later tweeted, “Oh well, so much for science!”

Keep your day job Axl. No stand-up career on the horizon for you, sorry.
Axl is a goof! I don’t get the music biz at all! people pay high ass prices to see a show and the get ripped off all the time. Who wants to see a perfect show? Little mistakes are what make a concert special in the first place. What would song remains the same be with out Jimmy Pages flubs? It would a studio session and not a live show. At least kiss admitted it and didn’t lead the fans on and I guess the peppers didn’t lie so it’s okay
I cannot speak for Mr. Rose, nor get inside his head. But, in my humble opinion, I think he was being sarcastic.

I like Axl. I even like Chinese Democracy. HOWEVER…..the guy has no sense of irony or self-awareness. He’s criticizing the RHCP for pre-recording the instruments for their Super Bowl performance? If Axl had any background knowledge about staging a performance at the Super Bowl, he would know that the stage is set up and taken down in the space of a half-time. There’s no time for sound-checking. Neither the NFL nor Fox nor any self-respecting band would allow themselves to be subject to all the things that could go disastrously wrong in an un-soundchecked, outdoor performance in front of a live audience and another billion people watching on TV. The RHCP also had nothing to prove. Everyone knows they are a formidable band with a virtuoso bassist and one of the best rhythm sections in rock. So it’s not like there’s any question of their live chops. There’s a reason why Axl/Guns & Roses has never been invited to play at the Super Bowl: the band would have been playing in the snow to an empty stadium the next day! Why? Because that’s when Axl would’ve finally shown up!
^^^Did you not see the Black Eyed Peas incident a couple years back. I’ll bet my ass that show wasn’t pre recorded.
In My opinion, lip syncing/pre recording is always lying to the fans, admitted or not. I would expect more out of a band like RHCP. As for Axl, who asked for HIS opinion on this issue? lol. He oughta just keep his mouth shut.
Maybe, he was asked for his opinion by a few media outlets, so he decided to post a general response at Billboard? Who knows?
Even if that wasn’t the case, he entitled to his opinion, just like everyone else. I am sure there were plenty of other people who commented on this story as well. I thought his response was kind of amusing.

I think alot of these guys realize that the public in general is naive to alot of things that get put out there for them to observe. Its really a joke. My thing is….change the show…..use some other type of entertainment that is real for the game. Huge marching band….dancers….whatever….for guys who are skilled musicians to go up there and pretend is…well ridiculous. But big payout and you attract new fans…so you can see why some of them do it. Why did Axl come out and poke fun? I don’t know he’s always criticized about being a recluse. Then he talks about this topic and people get angry…its the Super Bowl people…..its a game…he is poking fun. Relax……..
