6/17: TMS, JAKE E LEE, RICK ALLEN, VIV CAMPBELL, RADIO SHOWS, MORE

Hope all the fellow Dad’s out there had a great Fathers Day. I spent mine with my Dad and about 16 members of my family and of course my son and daughter. Was a good day, hope yours was also.

Thanks to all who came to my signing at the grand opening of Gr8 Soundz Music in Hellertown PA Saturday. Amazing turn out and was great meeting you all. When my 2nd book comes out in Sept hope to come back through again if not sooner. Also to those in the Allentown PA area WZZO is no longer airing my show. This is their decision and had nothing to do with me. Please let them know how you feel. Thanks.

3 episodes of the all new TMS have now aired. Hope you all enjoyed Rex Brown, Sebastian Bach, Vinny Appice and Danko Jones on our Metal Modem. This episode repeats all week on VH1 Classic and can now also be seen online if you don’t get VH1C. All episodes on my site as well as www.thatmetalshow.vh1.com As you can see we have a ton of new features we are rotating in and out in this new season. Trying new stuff and keeping things fresh. All the feedback is welcome and appreciated. Another all new episode this Saturday with two first time guests; Def Leppard’s Rick Allen, and Jake E Lee! Jake was one of our top Whatever Happened To’s for ages and I put a lot into tracking him down and getting him on the show. You will hear some of his story this Saturday for the first time on TMS! This is a great one I think you guys will love.

Huge response to the interview with Vivian Campbell I did this past Friday on the Q104.3 show. Remember this show airs on all affiliate stations and online outlets this coming weekend. Stations all listed on this site. Also members of the site will hear this show On Demand starting next week.

Headed to NYC now. Join me LIVE today 6-10P ET on SiriusXM channel 39 for Trunk Nation. Music & talk that Rocks!

6/14: TMS EPISODE 100, TOMORROW SIGNING IN PA, RADIO SHOWS, MORE

I’ll be appearing at the GRAND OPENING of a new record store Gr8 Soundz tomorrow/Saturday at 3PM. The store is in Hellertown PA by Allentown and located at 1055 Main St. I’ll be selling and signing my book but no purchase needed to come by and say hello.

LIVE radio show tonight at 11PM ET on Q104.3 FM NYC and streaming live FREE at www.q1043.com or by using the free iheartradio app. Metal Lists author Howie Abrams will be hanging out and Def Leppard guitarist Vivian Campbell will be calling in to discuss music and his recent cancer diagnosis. Viv interview should be around Midnight. Remember this is the same show that airs on all affiliates next weekend as well. Also will play more new Sabbath and much more. 11P-2A LIVE tonight!

Also live this Monday for Trunk Nation 6-10P ET on SiriusXM 39. Been a while since we were guest free on this show and we have much to play and discuss and catch up on. We have had some incredible guests in studio lately and I have been flooded with requests for this show to replay and be available with the On Demand app on SiriusXM. I GREATLY appreciate the support and have asked the company many times, but no real response yet. YOU guys are the customers so I would ask them. Has nothing to do with me at all. Thank you again.

Tomorrow marks the 100th episode of That Metal Show when an all new episode premieres at 11P ET on VH1 Classic. When I first put this show together with VH1C back in 2008 I was just thrilled to get the Pilot made! To be here 5 years and 100 shows later and stronger than ever is truly a testament to YOU all around the world that watch and continue to support the show. Of course I wish we did new shows so much more often, but again, most important is we are still doing it and you are still watching it with new fans coming on board all the time. So many artists and fans have said congrats and it means so much, truly. Nothing really special in the episode to mark it being 100 besides a mention or two, but it’s a great all new one with Sebastian Bach, Rex Brown and Vinny Appice. Hope you like it and here’s to hopefully another 100 (and in less than 5 more years..haha).

Happy Fathers Day to all the fellow Dad’s this weekend!

6/12: ZAKK, SIGNING THIS SATURDAY, TMS, MY NEXT BOOK

Hope you guys are all having a good week. This past Monday’s radio show was a blast with Zakk Wylde in studio. Zakk and I go way back and we always have a good hang on the radio talking sports, music and more. Zakk and BLS are headed out on Gigantour which is a great bill this year. Among the notable comments were when Zakk said he would be honored to play in Pantera if they ever called on him. But before anyone gets excited remember, there are HUGE issues that would need to be resolved first between the surviving members of the band. As you will see on TMS this week with Rex Brown he no longer speaks with Vinnie, and we all know of the Vinnie/Phil issues. So MUCH would need to be fixed before it ever would get to needing a guitarist. Also thanks to Katherine & Jon authors of Louder Than Hell for coming in. Great book! Also cool to catch up with Steve Blaze in this past Monday’s very busy show. To all those asking me why my show is not on the On Demand app I honestly do not know! I have asked several times. You are the customers so I would direct those questions to SiriusXM. I can only do the show as I do. Up to them 100% what they choose to do after that. Thanks.

Hope you all enjoyed episode 2 of the all new TMS with Stone Sour and more this past week. As you can see we did have a Top 5 and as usual the crazy reaction is everywhere. “What about……”. Kind of the whole point you can only pick 5! Of course there are a TON of people that could be on the list. It’s all opinion and all fun to spur debate, which it does! One more Top 5 coming in the next 6 new shows. We will revisit having it in all shows next time we tape which maybe will be in the Fall. This Saturday another ALL NEW episode (our 100th show!) with Rex Brown, Sebastian Bach and Vinnie Appice on drums! 11/10C on VH1 Classic! Please keep watching, spread the word, and let’s continue to grow TMS. Thanks!

Met with my publisher Monday to being to talk about a book tour for the release of Eddie Trunk’s Essential Hard Rock & Metal VOLUME 2! The official release date in 9/24 physical and digital wherever books are sold. Amazon already taking pre orders at less than the $19.99 list price. This book is the exact same format as my first, just with 35 all different bands/artists featured. Plans are being made now for me to hit the road for a signing tour upon release. I’ll hit as many cities as my publisher wants me to and will post all dates and venues when everything is set. Hope to see you all out there soon! Clearly I can’t get everywhere on the initial promo run, but will do my best to do other stuff down the road to connect as well for my books. Thanks to all who ordered or will order. Excited to have Vol 2 coming and I’ll post a full list of all bands featured in this space very soon.

If in Allentown PA area I will be selling and signing my first book this Saturday 6/15  from 3-4PM (I’ll of course stay past 4 if need be) at the grand opening of Gr8 Soundz, a brand new record store! The store is at 1055 Main St, Hellertown PA. Please note the store doesn’t open till this Saturday. Hope to see everyone. No purchase necessary so come by!

6/12: THOUGHTS ON NEW SABBATH ALBUM

Sitting here listening to the full new Black Sabbath album for the first time start to finish. I like much of what I hear but think this will take some time as many of the songs are long and in much of the same tempo. “Loner” seems to be the one track at 4 minutes and a bit more uptempo. Like the production, Tony is the riff king, Geezer rules as always, and Ozzy sounds good on it. In the absence of Bill Ward sounds like Brad Wilk does a great job. It’s obvious the band spent time listening to their first album at the direction of Rick Rubin. They literally rip themselves off at times. “Emd Of The Beginning” is the song Black Sabbath! The end of the album “Dear Father” also sounds like a direct sample of the open of the song “BLack Sabbath” (and makes for a nice way to close what might be their final album, since it opens the first one in 1970) But if the creators of metal can’t borrow from themselves after being borrowed from for decades who can? I’m still digesting this and will have more of a feeling for it after a few listens. But for a band in it’s 43rd year of making records on first listen it’s better than anyone could have expected, especially when you consider the new tracks they did with Ozzy for the Reunion collection which were not strong in my opinion. Also great to see the strong first week sales for this album around the world. Much is being made of this and rightfully so, it’s great to see for the band and metal, but the REAL test will be where the album is chart and sales wise in 3-4 weeks from now. Most legendary classic bands with huge fan bases have great first week or two sales and chart standing. The real test is after the base buys the album what happens? Most drop off the radar quickly. This is due to the lack of any real radio or video support to keep it going and bring in new audiences. This is far from a commercial album so it will be a challenge for the label to keep it alive outside of specialty shows like mine once the first week buzz slows. So let’s hope Sabbath can land a number 1 in the US in week 1. After that it will be virtually impossible. Just a bi product of the music industry today. Hope to have Geezer and or Tony on the radio shows soon to discuss all. They have been frequent guests in the past. MOST important let’s hope Tony continues his recovery to good health! As always we welcome your thoughts and opinions as well!

6/9: TMS RECAP, LIVE RADIO SHOW TOMORROW, MORE

Thanks all for the great response to the second episode of the new season of That Metal Show. Corey Taylor always brings it and was great to have him back, this time with Josh Ramd. So glad to see so many people discovering the amazing talents of Richie Kotzen here in the US. I’ve been talking about Richie and having him on the radio shows for the last 10 years or so and he is truly one of the most incredible all around talents and voices I know. Many more will discover that when Winery Dogs hits next month. Great to have him back on playing and hanging on the show too. As you can see we did have a Top 5 in this weeks show for Underrated guitarists. TONS of names could have been in this category! As usual, no right or wrong answers, just opinions and all good. Also great to have Dave Lombardo on. Clearly much has changed for Dave since we shot that segment 6 weeks or so ago. I wish him well with his bands outside of Slayer going forward. As you can see we had even more new segments and features in this weeks TMS. We have given the show a major makeover in many ways and as a result different features will come in and out to keep things fresh week to week. So Origins, Rant, TMS Book Club, Top 5, and many more all revolve in and out over the next 6 new shows still to come. Appreciate all the comments about the new set too. Many are positive, but the ones that aren’t are okay too. All opinions welcome. As I said, I don’t care if I do it on a cardboard box, AS LONG AS WE DO IT! This weeks episode repeats all week on VH1 Classic, just check your grids. You can see it starting tonight at Midnight online in the US by going to www.thatmetalshow.vh1.com

This Saturday another all new show which will be episode number 100. Rex Brown and Sebastian Bach are the guests, Vinnie Appice plays drums. Many more surprises as well.

Super busy Eddie Trunk Live tomorrow on Trunk Nation SiriusXM channel 39 6-10P ET LIVE! Steve Blaze of Lillian Axe, Zakk Wylde, and Louder Than Hell authors Kat & Jon all among the guests. Zakk kicks it off live in studio around 6:15 ET 3:15PM Pacific.
