ALEX VAN HALEN VALIDATES THAT BOTH HE, AND EDDIE, MET WITH SHARON OSBOURNE TO DISCUSS RECORDING A VAN HALEN ALBUM WITH OZZY

In continuing with his interview with Gastão Moreira of Brazil’s Kazagastão, Alex Van Halen confirmed that there was talk of Ozzy Osbourne making an album with Van Halen and his brother, legendary guitarist Eddie Van Halen.

Van Halen stated (as transcribed by blabbermouth.net), “Oh, yeah. No. Ed and I met with Sharon [OsbourneOabourne‘s wife and manager], because we were kind of at a loss of which direction we wanted to go. That was probably in about 2000… I’m trying to remember, because it was right before [The Osbournes] TV show; the next day they had that TV show. So we sat with Sharon. I mean, it was kind of an interesting evening because she’s a lovely lady. I don’t know what people would say about her, grousing and complain[ing], but she’s a lovely lady who really had to fend for herself in a male-dominated world. We played several times with Ozzy on the bill, and she was always there to support him, to guide him, to give him comfort because most performers are not as sure of themselves as they appear to be. So we got together and the final thing we talked about was, she says, ‘Okay, it sounds like a good idea. Let’s do that. Let’s make a record together. Only one thing. I have a meeting tomorrow with some people about a television show.’ And the rest is history. That’s how close it got.”

  1. it’s just wacky that we got this idea that a drummer wasn’t good if he or she couldn’t play to a click track when it’s the other way around…music comes from God…..and we have devolved into just a stupider and stupider version of God’s image….(or for secular folks, humans)

  2. Some things sound promising in theory. In reality, it would’ve been a disaster. It was around 2000 that Ed began to descend way deep into whatever addiction he had. Ozzy, at the time, was going through his own prescription pills issues. Plus, Ozzy and Sharon were a package deal. If Ed found it difficult to deal with Dave and Sam, the Ozzy/Sharon duo would’ve been a nightmare for him.

I’m glad that circus never came to fruition.

    1. Agreed. Enjoyed VH and Ozzy……..but mixing the two probably not the epic outcome some would predict.

    2. I agree rtunes 100 percent. It would of been strange music and a disaster. Two way different types of music. Very strange. I love all the music that Ozzy gave the world!! Thank God we still have Dave touring and dancing around and sounding so great!
