HarperCollins Publishers has set an October 22nd for Brothers, a new book from legendary Van Halen drummer Alex Van Halen. The 384-page book is categorized under “Biography & Autobiography” and currently has a list price of $32.00.
Eddie and Alex Van Halen formed a band called Mammoth in Pasadena, California in 1972, then renamed it Van Halen when singer David Lee Roth joined the group and, later, bassist Michael Anthony.
Van Halen was one of the biggest rock bands in the country in the 1980s, with hits like Runnin’ With The Devil, Ain’t Talking’ Bout Love, Unchained, Jump, Panama and Hot For Teacher. The group, which later featured Sammy Hagar on vocals, was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2007.

How bout that $1,500 KISS banner marking the 50th anniversary of the debut album!
Looking forward to this book release. The Van Halen boys were a wild bunch. Alex is a fantastic drummer with awesome chops and style.
I hope Alex drops bombs on Sammy especially. That Red book did immense damage and was totally unnecessary. Sammy’s record sales tanked after leaving V.H so I guess he “needed” to pour dirt on the brothers as damage control. Sammy is a “sell out” and one of “them”. I remember seeing the triangle hand in the OU812 cassette jacket. I don’t think the brothers were involved in that kind of sh*t. Funny how Sammy took off in the ” spirit” industry a few years later
Yep, everything was Hagar’s fault! In the late ’90s everybody’s record sales started to slip thanks to the beginning of the streaming shit, but Hagar’s concerts were still selling out all over the world!
Doug,
Not sure streaming was the main issue in the 90s, but GRUNGE was 🙂
I seem to recall Van Halen lll didn’t sell that well either, I wonder why?
Given how private Alex has been throughout VH’s history, I was very surprised to hear this news. I have to wonder if this book is truly a memoir, or just a tribute to his brother. It would be nice if the book sheds some light into the various relationships within the band from someone other than the band’s lead singers. I understand that he’s going to be fiercely loyal to his brother (hell, the book is called Brothers!), but it would also be tremendously insightful for fans to get a (somewhat) objective view from a guy who was there since Day One, but wasn’t necessarily in the eye of the storm between the guitarist and lead singers.
I agree with you about the book. I’ve recently been revisiting the first 3 albums, and am still blown away by what masterpieces they are in my opinion. DLR was excellent, and the right guy for the job at the time. Anything that covers those 3 albums, I especially want to hear about. The recording process, writing, mixing, daily routines, what they had for lunch, I want it all!
This should be a very interesting book, it just sucks though that we have to wait until October 22nd to read it!
This should be an insane book – I will be reading it
