So, since I want to illicit a positive experience, in order to entice this person to seek out further material from this band, as well as, others, I would most likely recommend, something that is quite melodic, with a bit of bite.
I realize this is a difficult question, but here is my suggestion (as of posting this):

In response to Fred11comment about Priest and Sabbath, I do agree about toning it back a bit on an intro to the genre.
Priest was my introduction so I basically OD’d on the spot (LOL) Pyromania as Dana mentioned is probably more in line to ease someone into it.
I would also add Scorpions Love At First Sting. This has a bit of everything from hard hitters to radio play to an exceptional power ballad at the end.
I agree knowing what they like now influences the suggestion, but picking one that hasn’t been mentioned already would be Queensryche’s Empire. It’s melodic and had cross-over into MTV and radio rock in its day so it attracted a wide audience.
On a side note, I posed that question to a popular AI engine and it had Back in Black has the top “unbeatable” choice with the following honorable mentions:
More melodic and sophisticated – Queensrÿche – Empire (1990) (polished, intelligent metal with hooks)
More classic and blues-based 0 Led Zeppelin – IV (1971) (“Stairway to Heaven,” “Black Dog,” and the roots of hard rock)
Heavier and darker Metallica – Master of Puppets (1986) (defines heavy metal’s power and precision)
Modern and cinematic Tool – Lateralus (2001) (progressive, philosophical, and hypnotic)
I’m just going off the top of my head and say Nazareth – Hair Of The Dog
Love all of the examples given by fans here. More than that thank you Dana for the great conversational questions- too cool! The Ratt album would be on my list as well 🙂 Number 1 on my list would be UFO- ” Force it” from 1975, thier 4th album but 1st to chart in the US. Somewhere on the list is Jani Lane and any Warrant album. Some other kindof obscure bands to hear would be BeBoDeluxe or Budgie.
You’re welcome,
Love that we are twinning on Ratt. 🙂
UFO? Another great choice, but I would probably recommend Obsession. Pack It Up And Go is probably my favorite UFO song. it just shreds.
