Great to see Punky and Frank play TOWER again! That song is one of my favorite Angel tunes! Had Angel stuck with the more progressive sound of their earlier albums, I think they would have been more successful than they were. But they started going more mainstream and poppy on their later albums, which I am sure that they were pushed to do by the record company. Songs like TOWER and MIRRORS were my favorites, although I did enjoy some of their more mainstream songs like DON’T LEAVE ME LONELY. Angel has always been one of my guilty pleasures!

this was pretty damn good , I saw it a couple of days ago , too bad there was not footage like this from their early days , frank and punky both look great! they both still sing and play great as well , I really think they could do a small tour as angel and do really well , even if Gregg and barry were not up for it , with felix , another{ drummer and keyboardist which they already have} scott coogan and punkys keyboard man ??? could fill out the line-up ditch the back up girls their harmonies are a little off key in a lot of what I have seen online- punky ,frank if your reading this by chance please consider it you have a lot of fans out there that would come out to see you guys it really could do very well, just MHO ~bob

I enjoyed Angel’s music and I have all their albums. I also thought their band logo was pretty cool, the way it still spelled “Angel” when it was turned upside down. I remember making a book cover for one of my school text books and I drew the first Angel album artwork and logo on the cover. I thought it looked cool.

Tower is a great song. Glad to see Punky reunite with Dimino. Dimino still sounds great. But after watching this video, I don’t think that Punky could have ever joined either KI$$ or Aerosmith, as he claims was once a possibility. Punky just doesn’t have the “chops”…..never did, and he still doesn’t..

have to respectfully disagree with you on the “punky not having the chops part of your post” , he might not have what you consider good chops , and for all I know you could be a very talented musician yourself, possibly a really great guitarist as well so again no disrespect headed your way , I personally never cared for malmsteen’s playing style , but loved blackmore, never really thought joe perry was the worlds best player either but I loved ace, what i’m trying to say is, imo those bands would never have reached out to punky or for that matter any guitarist at all if he/they in their minds didn’t have what it took to do the job- as fans we will never like all the same players , no one will ever agree on who the top 5 players are lol – too me its all really a mix of art creativity feel and passion for music and we like who we like – sorry for the long winded reply , punky is just one of those players that I really enjoy listening to, and would love to share a stage with –

I agree, Robert. If you listen to Punky’s recent solo album, he certainly sounds to me like he has “chops”. Is he a shredder, like a Yngwie or Paul Gilbert? Definitely not! But he can definitely knock out a good solo, when he wants to. I think his playing fits the song, which is why I’ve usually enjoyed his playing. Is he on my top ten list of favorite guitar players? No, but I also know that the guys for Aerosmith and KISS would not have asked him to join their bands (assuming this is true) if he didn’t have “chops”.

      Robert/Keith:

One thing i really enjoy about this forum is that we fans can all express our opinions. I love reading what other fans think of articles that Dana posts on this website, and I respect everyone’s opinion, even though sometimes i don’t always agree with them. And i also learn things from other fans that i never thought of considering that help shape my opinions on topics.

Please don’t misunderstand me, i’m not saying Punky is a bad guitarist. From his playing in Angel, i just don’t think he had the technical ability to play the solos of Ace Frehley and Joe Perry, nor do i think he has the musical ability to write memorable solos they way Ace and Joe did. I loved him with Angel, he was the most iconic member of the band. But, in my opinion, he was influential more in image than he was as a guitarist.

I agree with you 100 % , also rattlehead {love your user name by the way !} this is a wonderful forum! when people can openly share their thoughts and opinions , it makes me want to check in and see what new posts are up and what people are saying about them , Dana does dig deep to find interesting stories to discuss -great job DANA!! it’s also great that we have had this discussion about punky and frank , I hope they can do something together , they have a lot of fans who would certainly come out by tickets and merch for sure!

      Robert.

      Thank you 🙂

Thanks Robert! I chose that user name cuz thrash metal is my favorite type of metal, I love Megadeth’s music due to its technicality, and my much respect for what Dave Mustaine has done as a pioneer of thrash metal beginning with his time in Metallica.

And thanks to this forum, and yours and Keith’s comments, I’m gonna go buy Punky’s album and give his guitar playing and musical ability another listen.

that is so cool rattlehead ! dave mustaine is great for sure ! in my opinion angels first or second album is my recommendation, punkys new album has really good playing, but those first two angel albums have really amazing fretwork from punky , unless you already have them lol – are there any new thrash metal bands you could recommend, thrash is not what I listen to the most but I do listen to megadeth ,
