GUITARIST TONY IOMMI SAYS THAT BLACK SABBATH’S HYDE PARK SHOW COULD BE THE BAND’S “LAST SHOW [EVER]”

TonyIommibig Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi has told Metal Hammer that Black Sabbath’s headline appearance at the Barclaycard British Summer Time festival at London’s Hyde Park might be the band’s final show.

The July 4th show, the closing date on the band’s summer 2014 tour, will see Sabbath headline above Soundgarden, Faith No More, Motorhead and Soulfly on the festival’s main stage. And according to Iommi, it could be the end of the road for the legendary band.

“It could be the last ever Sabbath show,” the guitarist admits. “I don’t want it to be, but there’s nothing really planned touring-wise after that show, so for all we know that could be it really. To be honest I don’t want to be touring to this extent too much longer, because it makes me feel so bad.”

Iommi has been undergoing medical treatment since being diagnosed with lymphoma in January 2012. The guitarist completed his treatment in March and is now awaiting an update on his condition.

“I’m at a stage now where I have no support, which means I have to see whether the cancer is coming back or if it’s still there or what,” he says. “I just don’t know. It’s a bit of a worry. After we finish this tour I’ll go in and have scan, so we’ll see what that shows up.”

“But the show at Hyde Park will a great way to end the European tour,” he says. “It has a really great bill, with a really good mix of people. We haven’t made any specific plans as the gig is a way off yet, but I think it’ll be special.”

Slow down mopes, what are you all going through menapause? The guy is in his 60s and he had a lifealtering experience with cancer and he’s pondering his future. Good for him, he requires time to put things in perspective. We had a 3rd go around with Dio, then a 3rd go around with Ozzy. He still needs 1 more with Gillan, I think he has 3 with Hughes but I think he still needs a Tony Martin mark 3 go around so there is much more to do. NATURE OF LIFE? MUSICAL LANDSCAPES IN A DECADE? No more listening to the 1st 6 SABBATH albums for any of you. The music is timeless. 43 years after BLACK SABBATH came out, 13 came out. Never say die people. Ride it out and see what happens next. We have KISS with Gene Simmons son to look forward to in 10 years. Sabestian Bach and Zakk Wylde are young. Wolfgang Van Halen not even 20. No more tears. Get up and go. God bless Tony Iommi, God bless Bruce Dickinson, God bless Taimi Down? WTF….

No menapause here..just paying tribute to a band we all love and grew up with…and the realization that whats coming down the pike isnt going to be up to par….shitty festivals like ozzfest and rock on the range may become the norm…

Through the years you have posted some of the nastiest comments ever on this website and now you want to be this great unifier. You Richman, are a nasty Bill Ward and Paul Stanley worshipper and you have absolutely no business critiquing peoples feelings. Go home and listen to IT’S ALRIGHT and STRUTTER and stay off of the computer you uninspired dip shit.

IT’S ALRIGHT is very BEATLESESQUE, G N’ R covered it well on one their to use your term “uninspired” live compilations. Glad you’ve been reading my comments. NOW GET YOUR FUCKING SHINEBOX.

There will never be another band to fill the shoes of the mighty sabbath!

I have had the same thoughts. As we and the bands we love age ,there will be less and less around to carry the torch. I’m sorry to say that there have been very few bands that have come out in the last 20 years that do a lot for me. Most of them are only around a album or two and break up any way. It’s hard to invest yourself in a band that likely will not be around that long. Sad thing for me is that many of my favorite bands are hitting their end, AC/DC, Sabbath, Motorhead,Scorpions,Aerosmith,Judas Priest all could be gone in the near future. This eaves a vacuum in bands that actually know how to put on a full fledgesd rock show.
