RAINBOW TO CELEBRATE ITS FIRST DECADE BY RELEASING “THE SINGLES BOX SET 1975-1986” IN FEBRUARY

rainbowsingles400 The first decade of Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow will be celebrated with a limited-edition 19-disc box set early next year.

It contains reproductions of the original vinyl singles’ artwork and comes complete with a 32-page book detailing the band’s release history from 1975 until 1986. Sleeve notes are written by Andy Francis.

Label Commercial Marketing states, “As one of the cornerstones of British Rock, Rainbow, led by the never-predictable but ever-astonishing guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, became synonymous with some of the most well regarded and popular charting Rock songs of the seventies and eighties. Passing through the band were some of the best the genre had to offer – vocalists Ronnie James Dio and Graham Bonnet, bass player and producer Roger Glover and drummer Cozy Powell. Each brought their individual talents to record some of rock’s best-loved timeless singles.”

Rainbow: The Singles Box Set 1975-1986 is released on February 3rd.

I wish Rainbow had put out a few more records with Joe Lynn Turner and mixed in some heavier material as well. Now Blackmore just wants to play his lute.

45 songs total…. Not one that I don’t have and the edited versions, who cares. Rainbow were never a singles band anyway. The only rarities, are the sound check version of All Night Long and Stranded live in 83 (both released on the much cheaper anthology). There is nothing compelling at all about this release.

I always liked Rainbow but have no desire to get this.

What is the point of this release with tracks that are already out there. How about some live Rainbow fom the first tour? There are so many bootlegs out there. How about “Rising” live.. All the tracks. Kinda hard to find some well produced versions of “A Light in the Black”.

19 CD’s, talk about overkill. Great band, just too much going on here to purchase, especially when all of it has been released before. “John G,” I too saw them in ’82, but as part of larger bill. 707, Rainbow, Scorpions, Nugent and then REO. JLT was a real a** though, he kept trying to rile up the crowd. We were waiting for Scorps, who ripped into a great set. Overall though, the show was very good.
