KISS IN TALKS TO LAUNCH A TV TALENT SHOW TO FIND REPLACEMENTS FOR BAND MEMBERS PAUL STANLEY AND GENE SIMMONS

KISS400 The manager of KISS has confirmed the group are in talks to launch a TV talent show to find replacements for frontman Paul Stanley and guitarist Gene Simmons – when the duo eventually retire.

It has long been rumored that founding members Stanley and Simmons hope to keep the band running when they decide to quit – but both men have been evasive when asked about whether any new members have been signed up and if the takeover will happen after their current world tour.

The rock veterans are the only original members left in the band, which was marred by the departure of Ace Frehely and Peter Criss and the death of Eric Carr in 1991 – the group now includes replacements Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer.

However their longtime manager Doc McGhee insists that there are indeed plans to replace all four band members and keep KISS alive for a new generation – they are close to signing a deal to find their replacements through an American Idol-style TV show.

McGhee says in a new TV documentary about the band, “I believe that KISS can go on forever. I believe that there is a way – and we are talking to people and we’re pretty close to getting it done – about finding the four new members of KISS.”

As our own Eddie Trunk reports in his Trunk Report, despite the fact that this article is dated 2008, Eddie writes, “the plan and closer than ever to happening…maybe two years away from launching.”

Do we really need Kiss to go on forever? Of all the great bands that we no longer have…Kiss? Sounds about right though, and I’m not surprised in the least.

Come on, I was a huge original Kiss fan, and I fall into the “original members with makeup or do something else” camp, but acknowledge there were some cool periods with other members, most notably Bruce Kulick and Eric Carr. Kiss is still selling concert tickets, so I guess enough people don’t give a hoot about who’s playing anyways. Says a lot about R&R fans in general. Line up to see bands with 1 or 2 original members as they play their take it to the bank hits. I’ll put on the new Mastodon and think about other things.

Yes my agenda of debating and discussing things from ALL sides, but you only see the negative in the discussion I guess. Oh and why is this news? This is still what they say they are doing, now closer than ever. Enjoy!

eddie . I personally have never heard you bash kiss and I have not seen anything written by you that bash’s kiss, you just give your opinion on what you like or dislike , it really amazes me when I look at the posts /comments about kiss – I guess people only see what they want to see, too bad-

Kiss was the most important band to me growing up. I have my opinions on them like all bands now. But a certain segment of their fan base and Paul himself seems to only dwell on the 2% I don’t like and ignore the other 98%. It’s all good, life goes on and many many bands that get it and appreciate what I do and have done. Thanks

of all the music sites out there, you seem to always get your facts straight and post the kind of information people who love hard rock and metal really want, not just about kiss , i wish you all the success in the world eddie, i just wish people would not be so mean spirited with their comments- it would make me nuts! reading all the nonsense i see here- i would love more open minded debate .

Ok you need to define the breakdown of those percentages. Only 2% you don’t like??? You have never said ANYTHING positive about the current version of this band! (albums, concerts, books, stage shows). NOTHING! But you claim to be a fan of all eras. Sooo disingenuous .

I’ll believe it when I see it and when I see it, I still won’t believe it.

Hey Eddie the starpulse.com article is from 2008.

OMG!! Find a new Kiss by having an Idol format? WTF are these guys thinking? Just retire and let it be done for the love of god. In some ways some young early 20 something’s with fresh talent and energy might be cool. But I’m sorry being a longtime fan seeing another tribute band does nothing for me.
