KISS FILM “CADILLAC HIGH” EXPECTED TO SHOOT IN MICHIGAN

kiss-return Eric Lacy of MLive reports:

Plans for Cadillac High, a feature film based on KISS’ 1975 visit to Cadillac, Michigan are still alive and expected to bring work to the state that helped the band get famous, rocker Gene Simmons told MLive.com.

The Michigan Film Office offered in 2012 film producer Philip Steuer a “conditional” $8.2 million incentive to shoot Cadillac High in Cadillac, Detroit and Pontiac.

It’s unclear why there’s been such a delay, but Simmons sounded eager over the phone Wednesday to see what the finished product will look like.

“It’s now been fully funded and it’s now in pre-production,” Simmons said.

When pressed on the matter, Simmons said he has “no idea” what type of role the band will play in the film, when the movie could be released, and if another visit by the band to Cadillac is possible anytime soon.

“The only date or timeline (for a release) I can give would be a guess,” Simmons said.

KISS is currently on tour this summer with Def Leppard and will make an August 23rd stop at DTE Energy Music Theatre in Clarkston.

“Our dance card is so full,” Simmons said. “We’re currently in the middle of the tour — the first half of it — and then we’ll take a break in September.

Then we’ll do a short stint in Las Vegas; then a KISS cruise; then we’ll fly to Mexico City to play a stadium down there; plans for a South American stadium tour, and just go around the world twice for two years.”

Cadillac High is expected to emphasize the impact KISS made on the Cadillac High School Vikings varsity football team and the town as a whole.

In 1974, the Vikings, playing KISS albums in the locker room before and after games, won seven straight games and wound up conference co-champs.

Word spread to KISS of the team’s success, and the band’s members decided to visit Cadillac the next year for a raucous Homecoming weekend.

Wow I cant believe it! Something worthwhile coming from the kiss camp….hard to believe..lol

    • Ennui on

      Ahhh yes another true fan.

    • Eric Heaton on

Sounds like you’re a “blind follower”..hows the kiss kool aid taste?

    • Mike B on

Ennui’s response is just as reasonsble as your.

    • Joe on

      No not really

We were on a roll with REDEEMER OF SOULS, now back to this stuff. I just watched NOAH, so I’m having trouble sleeping. Great movie with thought provoking ideas about mankind. Anyway let me start by saying Aces new song isn’t making me toss my LED ZEPPELIN IV. What I appreciate about KISS is that they always have something going on (for better or worse). I never heard Paul sing GOD OF THUNDER ’till KISS 40 and it is really cool. I hope this new film is as good as NOAH, that would be nice.

There’s a demo of Paul singing it on Youtube. He wrote the song.

    • DR on

Yes he did, and it wasn’t until he was in the studio recording Destroyer that he was told that Gene would be singing it.

I want to see Noah, but my wife doesn’t want to dedicate the 2 hours to it. Are you giving it the Richman 2 Thumbs Up?

    • richman on

Now we’re at a crossroads. My wife hated it. Found it boring. Noah the character was hard core and intense. No warm and fuzzy cute animal story. Major statements on war, environmental issues and the nature of man. If your wife likes Children of the Sea, go for it. If not, wait ’till she goes to bed early.

Russell Crowe is a great actor.

Richman, the Kiss box set – The Definitive Kiss Collection from 2001, the demo version of “God Of Thunder” has Paul singing lead vocal on it. Even though of course he wrote the song, it’s still very “weird” to hear this version with Paul singing lead.

      Let’s Go Mets! 🙂

    • Richman on

There are so many box sets and greatest hits out there, it is impossible to keep track. DOUBLE PLATINUM is the original and still the best. I got KISS 40 ’cause I’ve been doing a lot of driving and I find the IPOD in the car somewhat dangerous. KISS 40 is good.
STUMP THE TRUNK: Who has more greatest hits compilations: the ROLLING STONES or KISS?

    • Doug R. on

Well, it’s probably pretty close, but I would have to say Kiss. Not because Kiss has had more hits than the Stones, but because Gene needs more money than the Stones! 😉

    • elliot on

who puts on a better concert in 2014: the rolling stones or kiss?

  • Metalmike on

WOW……I hope it’s as exciting as “Detroit Rock City” was……………..Straight to DVD!!

    • Speedking on

“The Dirt” and Gregg Allman’s life story can’t even make it through pre-production, but this pile of crud built on the flimiest of flimsy plot lines is getting made? Please.

    • Brian B on

Actually I saw it in the theater before DVD…..

    • Ennui on

As did I. Another hater spreading inaccurate information.

Just think how asinine it will be that all four original guys who the movie is based on are still alive but two imposters will play two of the four. Maybe they will interview ACE and Peter without the makeup then Tommy and Eric with the makeup and they can ask them what they were doing in 1975 when the world was revolving around Gene, Paul…and those other two guys. How fuckin’ awkward.

    • Jimi on

Well put, and pretty funny too 🙂

    • Joe on

LMAO Steve D…..grrrreat point…..Joe in The Cuse

  • Jimi on

Sometimes you just gotta roll your eyes, and shake your head at what KISS does. I find myself doing that a lot lately. For every year I am less and less a fan of them, well actually for every month.

Couldn’t they just lose the frigging make up and be a normal band – they can still have the show and the pyros, and their huge cheap looking plexi glass screen/logo. The make up is old, and belongs in another era, and to another KISS line up. It’s ridiculous?

    • Drew on

I’m sorry, but this was one of the dumbest comments I’ve ever read.

    • Eric Heaton on

Nah not really…its pretty accurate…to paraphrase paul about the original unmasking, he said they had to know if they could exist w/out the makeup…in the 80s they did…Im not so sure they would survive today…the makeup was awesome in the 70s and again on the reunion tour…but now its just old…

    • Ennui on

Yes, so old that people are STILL going to see them.
