Slash exclusive with Eddie on MSG TV, Jericho, Trixter, more.
4/29/08
Had a great yesterday. Was in touch with Slash who was in NYC to perform a few songs live with R&R legend and producer Nile Rodgers. Slash loves the chance to play with all different musicians and is taking advantage of some free time in his schedule to jam with others. I've known Slash for a while. Ever since he came in to promote the Snakepit CDs on my shows years ago we have always stayed in touch. He really is a great guy and he and I can swap stories about rock for days! Slash was nice enough to meet me at MSG where we did a 30 minute sit down TV interview and talked Guns, Velvet Revolver, his book and more. We were just getting warmed up when our time ran out and Slash had to get to his gig, but it was great to see him and you can see the interview in two parts on MSG Network. It will air tonight 4/29 and Wednesday 4/30 inside the show "MSG,NY" on MSG Network. This channel is only available in the NYC area, however I will have audio and video from it to stream on this site after it airs. It will premiere at 10PM EST and repeat all night and the next morning. Slash didn't do any other interviews while he was here and didn't tell many he was coming to town, so this is really the latest exclusive news from the man himself. A few highlights:
*Velvet Revolver will continue. They are in the early stages of looking for a new singer. He wants someone who is a pro, but with no baggage. He agrees with me that VR could have made better records and said that due to inner band issues some of the best material written never made the CDs. He said they knew Weiland was done prior to the European dates and had made the decision to replace him before he even knew it. The core of the band remains together and commited to making a great album and will continue. He acknowledged the scary similarities between Axl and Weiland and how things unraveled, and said he was much more willing to hang in there with Guns but would not tolerate it again with Scott.
*He understands how people hope for a G&R classic lineup reunion, but says it is very unlikely at any point in the near future. He said that there are issues on his end with Axl and issues from Axl's end with him. He feels Axl's issues with him will be harder to resolve than his issues with Axl. Essentially Slash said one of his biggest problem with ever working with Axl again would be Axl being prefessional and playing on time and showing up for things. He said he could never be in a situation where union overtime and late starts are always an issue, and noted that from what he has seen that has not changed with Axl. He did say he would never say never, but it is not likely and clearly both parties have moved on.
Those were the major topics, much more when the interview airs and we stream it here. I greatly appreciate Slash making time to talk with me. We always have a great time when we hang and he has always been very cool to me. I'll also have the complete uncut audio to air on the radio shows soon.
The XM show last night was a blast with my old buds from NJ Trixter dropping by to hang. They did most of the second half of the show, took a ton of calls, talked about their reunion, Rocklahoma and more. After the show we hooked up with Chris Jericho after his gig at The Meadowlands and all hung out until 2AM at a TGI Fridays in NJ. Good to see CJ who wants to schedule a "Metal Summit" special as soon as his schedule permits. Chris is having fun being back in the WWE as a wrestler and announcer. He had a good time hanging with the Trixter gang as he is a fan of their second CD Hear. Really fun time and many rock stories swaped as you can inagine!
I'll be at the Kiss Expo late this Saturday as I have something to do early in the day. I'll be there 7-9PM and will intro Starz, who I am looking forward to seeing.
Big week coming with Judas Priest. They will be live in studio on my XM show Monday 5/5, live in studio for the Q104 show 5/9, and I will also be shooting an MSG TV interview. News when that will air soon.
