GWAR SINGER DAVE BROCKIE, A.K.A. ODERUS URUNGUS, DEATH CAUSED BY A HEROIN OVERDOSE

gwar400 The Virginia medical examiner’s office says Dave Brockie, the frontman for the heavy metal band Gwar, died of an accidental heroin overdose.

Brockie — who went by the stage name Oderus Urungus — was found dead in his Richmond home on March 23rd. He was 50.

Arkuie Williams, administrator at the chief medical examiner’s office, said on June 3rd that Brockie’s cause of death was acute heroin toxicity.

The Grammy-nominated band Gwar was founded in 1984 and is known for its comically grotesque costumes, stage antics and vulgar lyrics.

Gwar released its latest album in 2013 and recently toured Australia and Japan.

Brockie remained a constant in the band, which has had a revolving door of members. In 2011, 34-year-old lead guitarist Cory Smoot was found dead on the band’s tour bus.

Not sure what drives someone to put a needle in their arm…im not so sure it was the rock n roll lifestyle…it wasnt like they were an A-list touring act playing big venues, no radio play….I never seen him in photos with other rock stars…I just wonder if heroin was fullfilling a void that fronting Gwar couldnt…did he suffer from depression? Maybe he wasnt satisfied where his career was at ? I dont know, im just throwing out something to try and make sense of a tragic situation…either way, heroin is becoming an epidemic..especially in my area…
