EDDIE TRUNK AND COMEDIAN JIM BREUER REACT TO METALLICA’S GRAMMY PEFORMANCE

As previously reported on this site, Metallica played with Lady Gaga at the Grammy awards this past Sunday night (February 12th). To say the performance was polarizing, is an understatement. From the band not being introduced, to singer James Hetfield’s mic not working, it certainly made for an “interesting” show.

The performance is posted below followed by a couple of reactions, including one from our very own Eddie Trunk.

So, what’s your thoughts on the performance?

The mic snafu was just that, a technical glitch. It happens on live broadcasts often. I don’t see the big deal.

It was lame that they didn’t bother mentioning Metallica in their opener, but oh well. The Grammy’s have always marginalized metal, no surprise there.

Metallica seems to have nothing but glowing things to say about Gaga. They’ve already said in an interview that Lady Gaga had come to some shows and the idea of them playing together came up, and so they went with it on The Grammy’s.

Nothing mentioned, but did Megadeth really deserve that Grammy for best metal performance for Dystopia? It’s not a bad song or album, but it’s pretty standard Megadeth, or shall I say the Mustaine show. Seems like it was a thank you Grammy more than anything to do with their new album. I think a band like Periphery or Gojira is a lot more in tune with today’s metal, not to mention Metallica wasn’t nominated. The Grammy’s are strange.

Eddie talks like it was the Grammys producers’ idea to match Metallica and Gaga. From what I’ve read, it seems to have come from Metallica’s side (likely from Lars- so maybe that’s where he should direct his rant). And its not that surprising, given that both parties have collaborated with artists that seemed like an odd match not that long ago.

Setting aside the technical snafu, I enjoyed the performance overall. I think Gaga did a great job, as did Metallica. True, she didn’t earn her career in Metal, but she is an apparently fearless artist who gives her all to everything she does and it works most of the time from what I’ve seen. Her performance at the Super Bowl was phenomenal in my opinion.

The only thing that was kind of off-putting was the fake moshers on the sides. I wonder whose lame idea that was.

By the way, Laverne Cox who introduced them has apologized.

No doubt Lars is just stirring the pot with talk of making Gaga a permanent fifth member of Metallica. There’s no way either party would bet their respective massive separate careers on that. But I wouldn’t be totally surprised if there was more collaboration in the future for them.

All Lars fault,he kissed lady douche bags ass hard on this one,u could see James was pissed at the end, hope he punched Lars in the face!metallica doesn’t need the Grammys, the Grammys bows nothing about metal, nor does lady douche bag, stopping by an occasional metal gig doesn’t make u metal, being there in the beginning of Metallica days, that makes u metal, even if u didn’t like Metallica say in 86,just mowing where they came from, when, why, who, what?so lady douche bag, stay away from Lars, please!

Eddie’s rant was pretty funny. Personally, Metallica performing with Gaga isn’t my cup of tea at all but then again, neither is them doing that awful album with Lou Reed. And neither is Bon Jovi playing with that Jennifer Nettles girl. It’s no coincidence that I haven’t been a fan of either band’s new music in years.
Honestly, as clueless as the Grammy’s are, in this case I blame Metallica. So they weren’t introduced…who cares? In the grand scheme, is that important? So James’ mic didn’t work initially…who cares? It was quickly fixed. Bottom line is Metallica agreed to the performance and it was a mess. No one forced them to do it. It’s not like they need the publicity, money, fame, etc. at this point.

I’ve learned to accept the Grammys for what I believe it is…it is nothing more than a “made for TV production show”. Period. From a musical standpoint, I thought Gaga’s voice contributed nicely to Metallica’s song “Moth Into Flame”. But I think the whole production show with the fake metalheads and dancers was silly.

Mics not turned on, Metallica not introduced, silly production…but I think the biggest snafu is the house band playing Master of Puppets while Megadeth approached the stage to accept their long deserved award.
