DEF LEPPARD GUITARIST VIVIAN CAMPBELL’S CANCER IN REMISSION

Viviancampbell-306 Vivian Campbell has revealed his cancer is in remission again, after an earlier all-clear report proved to be wrong.

And the Def Leppard guitarist is determined not to get too excited after his earlier disappointment.

The Def Leppard guitarist was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma early last year, and announced in November that his course of treatment had been successful. In May he had to confirm, “The remission was a little bit premature. I don’t know if the cancer came back, or it never totally went away. I kind of took that ball and ran with it – and unfortunately it turned out to be premature.”

Campbell reports from the band’s current US tour with KISS, “I’m currently in Boston and I had a scan on Tuesday morning. It shows the cancer is in remission. Great news – but I’m trying not to get too excited as I heard that same phrase last year.

“The plan is to do a stem cell transplant as soon as the tour is finished. However, to keep me in remission, doctors have recommended I do a third round of chemo. So I’m back in hospital, all hooked up and doing my rock’n’roll drugs. Keef would be most proud!”

Meanwhile, Last In Line, the former Dio lineup featuring Campbell, Vinny Appice, Jimmy Bain, Claude Schnell and vocalist Andrew Freeman, have released an unmixed clip of brand-new track Devil In Me via their Facebook page. It’s their first original work since gathering in 2012 to perform the material they co-wrote with late frontman Ronnie James Dio. The album from which the band take their name was released 30 years ago in July.

I’m so glad to hear he’s doing better. He sounds like he has a great, positive attitude and that’s a big key to recovery I think.
I respect what he’s done with Def Leppard, but he will forever be the guitarist that played on my favorite Dio albums, meaning the first three of course. When he left Dio, I was devistated. It made matters worse seeing him and Adrian Vandenberg miming John Sykes’ guitar parts in Whitesnake videos. I was actually relieved that Vivian left Whitesnake. That was a weird situation.

Vivian’s playing on the first three CLASSIC DIO albums was simply brilliant. I also absolutely loved him with RIVERDOGS. It is certainly a blessing that his cancer is in remission. Here’s hoping he stays healthy and playing for good, long while.

Great news Vivian!!!! Having a wife that has been in remission twenty years and having to see what one goes thru with that dreaded ugly YUCK!!!!

To quote James above yes attitude is everything and that is what my wife’s doctor told us!!!
    Rock on Vivian!!!!!!!

He’s such a great straight-ahead rock guitarist. Lepp and Dio aside, also check out his work with Shadow King, Lou Gramm and the above noted Riverdogs. Great stuff. Get well Viv.

Good news, hopefully the cancer stays gone this time. It’s a terrible thing, and takes far too many lives. When and if a definitive cure for all cancers is ever found it will be one of the greatest days in human history (if the drug companies will allow it, but they make so much money off the treatments it’ll probably never happen).

Hopefully Vivian and Def Leppard let it rip on the next DL album. Wishful thinking, I know, but maybe…
