DUG PINNICK OF KING’S X RELEASES “NAKED” ON MAY 7th

dougpinnick dUg Pinnick, frontman for legendary hard rock trio King’s X, releases his latest solo album, Naked, on May 7th through RockArmy Records with worldwide distribution through MVD.

Naked is a deeply personal release that represents Pinnick – who wrote, played, recorded, and produced the album alone at his own dUgtone Studio – at his most primal. Each of Naked‘s 11 guitar-heavy tracks are overflowing with Pinnick’s unmistakable tone, groove, and heart-wrenching vocals, including the singles What You Gonna Do? – which took YouTube by storm with a self-shot video that Pinnick created and unleashed in late 2012 – and That Great Big Thing.

Pinnick has been a pivotal figure in heavy music for over 30 years, most notably as the vocalist and bassist for the still-active King’s X, whose influence looms large over everything from the progressive metal movement (Dream Theater, et al) to the grunge scene – with Pearl Jam’s Jeff Ament famously stating that “heavy music didn’t start in Seattle, it started in Katy, Texas, with King’s X” – and who are also one of the few bands in the history of rock ‘n’ roll to mark 25-plus years of playing together with the original lineup intact, with no signs of slowing down.

Since 1998, Pinnick has released two solo albums under the moniker Poundhound and three others (including a collection of home demos featuring more than a dozen fan-favorite King’s X songs) under his own name. Additionally, Pinnick has joined forces with a who’s-who of veteran rockers – including Pearl Jam’s Jeff Ament, Eric Gales, Thomas Pridgen (The Mars Volta, The Memorials), Bruce Fanklin (Trouble), Kelly Keagy (Night Ranger), Timothy Drury (The Eagles, Stevie Nicks), Reb Beach (Winger, Dokken), Kip Winger (Winger), Living Colour (with whom he toured Europe as temporary vocalist in 2008), Gilby Clarke (Guns N’ Roses), Yngwie Malmsteen, Billy Sheehan, 24-7 Spyz, Steve Stevens (Billy Idol, Vince Neil), Tribe After Tribe, Carmine Appice, and many more – and young hotshots, including the Austin-based metal band RAZR13 (whose album was produced by RockArmy Records owner Paul Soroski and featured a guest appearance by Philip H. Anselmo (Pantera) guitarist Marzi Montazeri.

Naked combines the vibe and the songwriting of a classic King’s X album with the raw energy of a musician who feels like he’s got something to prove and isn’t afraid to do it. Without question, Naked is the sound of dUg Pinnick at the top of his game.

FORMER WHITE LION SINGER MIKE TRAMP ANNOUNCES NEW ALBUM AND NORTH AMERICAN TOUR DATES

miketrampheadshot Former White Lion frontman Mike Tramp has announced a new album and North American tour dates (see below).

The new CD Cobblestone Street is a departure from the sound that most people would expect from a singer, that has been around since White Lion crashed on to the Hard Rock scene in the 80’s. Rock fans have gotten to know Mike Tramp as a rock singer and frontman that looked like he was born to be just that. Therefore many might find it surprising that Tramp’s roots and musical upbringing, lie deeply buried in folk music. Heavily influenced by fellow Danish artists with acoustic guitars and international stars like Bob Dylan, Neil Young and Bruce Springsteen, Tramp says that all of his songs through 35 years on the music stage, have always come from sitting with the old faithful acoustic guitar playing and singing. That White Lion songs like When the Children Cry, Broken Heart and Wait, and Freak Of Nature’s Rescue Me later have ended up as epic rock classics is just a question of arranging them in that way with the band in the rehearsal room, but all songs have always been fit to play around the campfire or in the back of a shady bar.

What seems like the most natural thing for an artist, can sometimes be the opposite for both fans and critics! Still Mike Tramp has full confidence in the fans that have followed and grown with him through the past 25 years and know that they will stand by his side and enjoy his new solo album, although they might be in for a big surprise from the former White Lion and Freak of Nature frontman.

Tramp says that he is so at home with the new album, and in lack of better words, it’s really like coming home after a long journey that has taken him around the world over the past 30 years.

Tramp says, “I am not lost, I am not confused, I am not taking a break. This is the album I have waited a long long time to record, because I didn’t have the guts to do it earlier on. Still it’s not just a matter of doing an album like this and then returning to the screaming Marshall amplifiers, thundering bass and drums like canons. This is where I am, and this is where I am going to stay as a solo artist, and anytime the urge to play loud rock’n’roll awakes in me, it will be some kind of band project where I am just the singer and part of the package.”

Tramp says he feels that Cobblestone Street, is like a movie, a movie about his own life in great details.

Mike Tramp will release Cobblestone Street in the USA on May 7th, 2013. For more information, please visit miketramp.dk.

JUDAS PRIEST TO RELEASE “EPITAPH” ON BLU-RAY AND DVD ON MAY 28th

JudasPriestGroup.jog
Judas Priest, the heavy metal legends whose influence on generations of musicians and metalheads is incalculable, celebrate their 40th year as recording artists this year with the release of the live concert Epitaph. A unique live career retrospective, Epitaph will be released on Blu-ray and separate DVD on May 28th through Legacy Recordings, a division of Sony Music Entertainment. This release precedes a new studio album by Judas Priest which the band are working on now.

Judas Priest’s current lineup comprises lead singer Rob Halford, lead guitarists Glenn Tipton and Richie Faulkner, bassist Ian Hill, and drummer Scott Travis.

Heavy metal historians will regard Epitaph as the most far-reaching live concert recording in the band’s career. The set revisits the climactic closing date of the 50-week Epitaph World Tour, captured live at London’s HMV Hammersmith Apollo on May 26th, 2012. Adding to the drama is the fact that this was Judas Priest’s final large-scale world tour ever. Epitaph‘s 23 tracks represent at least one song from every one of the band’s 14 studio albums, from 1974’s Rocka Rolla (Never Satisfied” to 2008’s Nostradamus (Prophecy).

In the special case of British Steel, four songs are featured: Rapid Fire, Metal Gods, Breaking The Law, and perennial set closer, Living After Midnight. Others exempted from the one-song-quota are the LPs which appeared before and after British Steel. The first of these is 1979’s Hell Bent For Leather (UK title: Killing Machine) which lends the title song as well as The Green Manalishi (With The Two-Pronged Crown). The other LP is 1982’s Screaming For Vengeance, source of The Hellion, Electric Eye, and You’ve Got Another Thing Coming.

Epitaph tracklisting:

1. Battle Hymn (L)
2. Rapid Fire (F)
3. Metal Gods (F)
4. Heading Out To The Highway (G)

7. Victim Of Changes (B)
8. Never Satisfied (A)
9. Diamonds And Rust (C)

EDDIE VAN HALEN FEATURED ON LL COOL J’s NEW ALBUM “AUTHENTIC” AVAILABLE APRIL 30th

evhllbig Music legends, Eddie Van Halen and LL Cool J, have teamed up for two songs on LL’s upcoming new album Authentic which will be released on April 30th. The rock icon joined the legendary rapper in the studio and kicked the volume up to create two genre defying songs on LL’s powerful new album.

The first track, We’re The Greatest, can best be described as a thunderous rock/rap anthem which includes symbolic lyrics, frenetic, over the top guitar licks played with reckless abandon and solid drum beats. The song was co-written and co-produced by LL Cool J and Eddie Van Halen at Henson Studios in Hollywood California and features Travis Barker of Blink 182 on drums.

When asked why he choose to reach out to the iconic guitarist, LL Cool J replied, “This Album was born out of my true love for music and I knew Eddie shared that same vision for authentic music. I approached this song with the upmost respect for Eddie and his fans, and became friends with him through the process. I was humbled to watch a genius at work and collaborate with such a legendary and visionary artist as Eddie Van Halen, and to bring our two worlds together, was an exciting opportunity. I am thrilled he was up for the ride.”

Eddie Van Halen didn’t know what to think initially of LL Cool J’S invitation, but once he met the legendary rapper they instantly hit it off and he not only enthusiastically agreed to collaborate on We’re The Greatest, but to also play a solo on the track Not Leaving You Tonight which features Fitz and the Tantrums.

“The thought of me playing guitar to hip hop was definitely left of center, but I was intrigued and I agreed to meet and listen to what he had. I was not only inspired by the songs I heard, but LL’s enthusiasm, his down to earth personality, the freedom he gave me to co-create and his willingness to, for the very first time, sing the chorus on We’re The Greatest. It was like a breath of fresh air that I needed as an artist and an individual.”

Eddie commented further by saying, “the diversity of the songs on this album and the other artists he has collaborated with is outstanding, appealing to multiple genres of music and maybe even creating a few of our own. I feel blessed to not only have had the opportunity to work with LL but also to call him a great friend.”

This is not the first time the guitarist has teamed up with an artist outside of his genre. In 1984 his guitar solo on Michael Jackson’s Beat It has been praised for adding “the greatest guitar solo”, aiding “Beat It” into becoming one of the biggest selling singles of all time.
