BRUCE DICKINSON SAYS HE WANTS IRON MAIDEN’S “THE LEGACY OF THE BEAST TOUR” TO EXCEED THE “BOOK OF SOULS TOUR”
Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson says he wants to surprise fans on their upcoming The Legacy Of The Beast tour.
The run of UK and European shows will take place throughout May, June, July and August, with the tour named after the band’s mobile game and comic book of the same name.
But while the live shows tie in with those products, Dickinson tells Kerrang, “I haven’t paid too much attention to the game element, to be honest. I’m focused on what’s gonna constitute an amazing setlist, and what’s gonna constitute an amazing stage show.
I’m looking at the show as something that should certainly exceed what we did on the Book Of Souls tour, and I’m approaching things a slightly different way.
I’m approaching some of the songs a slightly different way. I’m conscious that over the years we’ve fallen into a little groove with some songs, so I want to try to shake that groove up a little bit.”
Dickinson adds, “I want it to be really slick, but awesome. I want people to go, ‘Wow! F–king hell, you’ve gotta see this show!’ I want people to be surprised as well.
I want them to go home going, ‘F–king hell, I can’t believe they played that song!’ That’s the reaction I want.
On the Book Of Souls tour, there was quite a lot of chatting with the audience. I’m not planning that on this tour because we’ve got so much to do and there’s so much going on. The show and the music is gonna carry the whole bloody thing.”
He adds, “We’re playing one or two things that people are gonna be really surprised by. There’ll be social media madness after the first show.”

I feel guilty that I just couldn’t tolerate the Book of Souls album. I just didn’t like it. The best part of that tour was Ghost as the opener.
But I wish this tour would come to North America. I would expect it to be amazing.
DR, i get what you’re saying about Book of Souls. I felt like that at first, but after several listens, i really started to enjoy it. There’s a lot of music to absorb on that album!
I, too, hope this tour comes to the United States. I saw the first U.S. leg of the Book of Souls tour, with Steve Harris’ son’s band opening the show, and i thought Maiden’s show was great. I couldn’t make the show with Ghost cuz was away in Maui for two weeks. I would have loved to see that 2nd leg with Ghost, though….great pairing of bands!!
I love Maiden, one of my fave NWOBHM era bands. Maiden has become very proggy with long, epic songs. And while i think these songs are great journeys to enjoy and listen to, I do wish Maiden could sometimes record and perform more shortened, less groggy songs. So, for me, an amazing setlist would be one that maximizes the number of songs they perform with some deeper cuts mixed in. I would love to hear Charlotte the Harlot, Murders in the Rue Morgue, Purgatory, Drifter, Where Eagles Dare, just to name a few.
Bruce,just drop wasted years for gods sake,you’ve played it to death every tour!!how about Alexander the Great?where eagles dare?empire of the clouds??stranger in a strange land???

I sure hope that they bring this tour to the states! I liked some of the songs on BOOK OF SOULS, but I agree that the some of the songs were just too long. Maiden has gone a little progressive on the last couple of albums, and I wish they would go back to the style of songs they did on albums like PIECE OF MIND, POWERSLAVE, and SOMEWHERE IN TIME. They are still a great band, though. If they’re looking for some deep cuts to play, how about “Killers”, “Alexander the Great”, or “The Clairvoyant”?
