2/26: BACK FROM MORC, POMPANO TOMORROW, LEBREWSKI CRUISE, MORE

Back from hosting the latest Monsters Of Rock cruise. It was a blast as always. TON of bands, TONS of great fans. Great to meet you all. There were many bands I didn’t get to see due to my schedule and all the overlapping, but from what I did see Tesla, Michael Monroe, Saigon Kick, Steve Vai, Extreme and Y&T all sounded amazing. If you’ve never been on one of these cruises you might not understand how hard it is to see it all. There were many friends in bands that I never even got to say hi to in the 4 days that blew by. And of course there is no phone or text. I also want to thank Sebastian Bach who turned in a great set and thanked me from the stage and played Breakin Down from Subhuman Race for me two nights in a row. Bas and I go way back and it was very cool. Way too much to cover here. More when I have time and on the podcast next Thursday.

I am staying in S FL this weekend. Hosting Queensryche & Dokken tomorrow night at the Pompano Amphitheater. I will be selling and signing both of my books on site as well. Tickets at the door till showtime and it starts at 7:30 sharp with Dokken. I may jump up and do a little Stump at 7:15…

This Tuesday I am hosting another cruise called Lebrewski. Not a metal cruise but a rock cruise on a great ship. I hope you were able to use the link on this site and jump on. It is an amazing free opportunity for a vacation and a way to say thanks to you guys for all the support. Hit the link on the banner and the cruise will let you know if cabins remain.

Busy playing catch up from being away. More soon.

ANTHRAX POST LYRIC VIDEO FOR “BREATHING LIGHTNING”

Anthrax - 2015

Anthrax have released an official lyric video for the song Breathing Lightning from their forthcoming album, For All Kings. Stream it below.

Said Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante, “Breathing Lightning was a song that… I would call it more of an accessible song on the record. It just came out that way. I just had this really nice, pretty intro, and then it built into this song, and it has a really, really catchy chorus. So I like this song a lot. I can probably see this song being in our setlist a lot.”

Added bassist Frank Bello, “You talk about Breathing Lightning, again, this is one of those big hooks. You just say, ‘Wow, man! That should be the biggest song Anthrax has ever had.’ It’s got everything you want. The music’s great. The hooks are just enormous in that song.”

Stated guitarist and lyricist Scott Ian, “Lyrically, it’s another song that was influenced by Stephen King. I hadn’t been there in a while, I feel like, and Stephen King has been such a giant part of my life. His Dark Tower series is… If I had to pick one thing that I love the most from him, it would be The Dark Tower books, ’cause there’s seven books, so I don’t have to choose one. The character Roland, it’s just something that stays with me a lot, this character from those books. So I kind of re-entered that world again. ‘Cause I wrote [Lone Justice] way back when, on the Spreading The Disease record, which was based on that character, and I decided to re-visit it, because, metaphorically, there’s so many things you could use it for. But then, I kind of wrap it up all in this giant ball of this Roland character from The Dark Tower series, because I just love that world so much. So I’m kind of weaving in and out of reality and fantasy in that song. And Breathing Lightning, of course, is a metaphor for shooting.”

For All Kings will be released on February 26th through Nuclear Blast in Europe and Megaforce in the U.S. Pre-order here. T

zakkwylde2016-640

Zakk Wylde will be releasing, Book Of Shadows II on April 8th through Entertainment One Music (eOne Music). Wylde’s first solo release in twenty years is the highly anticipated follow-up to 1996’s Book Of Shadows, a classic album Wylde released between his work with Ozzy Osbourne that has since become a fan favorite. Book Of Shadows II was recently named as one of the “Most Anticipated Metal Releases of 2016” via RollingStone.com.

Wylde has been feverishly working on new material since he wrapped up Black Label Sociey’s Unblackened spring tour last year. All songs on Book Of Shadows II were recorded and produced at Wylde’s home studio, The Black Vatican, where several of Wylde’s recent releases were made.

As fierce and diverse as his work in Black Label Society and as large as his accomplishments as lead guitarist for Ozzy Osbourne have been, Book Of Shadows II offers an even richer look into the spirit and psyche of one of the most beloved pillars of the hard rock community. Brand new tracks like Sleeping Dogs, Tears Of December, Darkest Hour, Harbors Of Pity and The King are bold proclamations of intense feeling and powerful catharsis.

Zakk Wylde’s powerful pipes, mayhem-inducing charisma, mischievous humor, and instantly recognizable pinch-harmonic driven blues based histrionic guitar shredding have made him the world’s most beloved American guitar hero.

The single, Sleeping Dogs will also be available as an iTunes instant gratification track, meaning fans who pre-order the album on iTunes will get the single immediately. Listen to song below.

GUITARIST RITCHIE BLACKMORE EXPLAINS WHY HE CHOSE NEW MUSICIANS FOR HIS RAINBOW COMEBACK, SAYS “I PREFER TO DISCOVER NEW MUSICIANS WHO CAN ADD A FRESH APPROACH TO MY MUSIC”

RitchieBlackmore640

Guitarist Ritchie Blackmore explains to Dutch Magazine, Aardschok, why he decided on lesser known musicians to help him perform Rainbow and Deep Purple classics at three European shows this summer. Blackmore’s answers were transcribed by blabbermouth.net.

Blackmore said, “The whole idea was to find good musicians. Of course, there were many familiar names around, but this idea didn’t appeal to me. Unlike many others, I prefer to discover new musicians who can add a fresh approach to my music. It’s great to present new musicians to the public.”

He continued, “The singer Ronnie Romero is complete unknown. He’s 34 and I’m sure that he’ll have a great career in this scene. He is orginally from Chile, but lives in Spain. Bassist Bob Nouveau is from Connecticut, and Jens is a known and respected keyboard player. It’s very easy to work with him, because he’s so experienced.

With drummers, I always tend to be very selective. For instance, I do not like to work with showmen. On stage, I need a groove and a lot of these so-called ‘famous’ drummers often rely more on the show element than on feel. I know many guys who can make their sticks fly and use sixteen bass drums, but who are mediocre when it comes to music. David Keith, however, has a great feel for rhythm.”

Regarding the song selection for the upcoming shows, Blackmore said: “The setlist will be Rainbow songs for about 70 percent, including Stargazer, because apparently that’s a song everybody wants to hear. About 30 percent will be Deep Purple songs. We will focus on the best-known songs. The Dio era will be a central part of the show, but we will also play songs from the Joe Lynn Turner and Graham Bonnet periods. As far as PURPLE is concerned; we will play the Gillan era but will also play something from the David Coverdale period.”

Blackmore also addressed the possibility of further shows being announced if the upcoming dates go well.

He said: “I deliberately chose to only give three concerts, to see if I’m still able to do this. Of course, there have been a lot of attractive offers, especially from Sweden and Finland. However, we must remember that I have already planned a German tour for Blackmore’s Night in July. As you know, after I suspended the activities of Rainbow, I became very interested in playing renaissance music. To move back to the electrics from the acoustics won’t be easy. I’ve rarely played rock music in the last years, and before these shows I have to cut my nails short. Because when I play this other music, I need long nails. Five days after the last Rainbow show, there’ll already be the first Blackmore’s Night show, so it’s unclear if I will have enough time to grow my nails back. If it won’t work so fast, I have to rely on false plastic nails. I never had this problem before, but I’m glad that I can [do something to] help me out.”

He went on to say, “If we enjoy ourselves and the audience gives us a positive vibe back, then I won’t rule out the possibility of continuing. However, the second round of dates will probably take place in 2017. But the crucial factor will be the chemistry between the musicians and the audience reaction. These shows will be recorded on video, so that we can release it later on. But my heart will always belong to renaissance music.”
