4/8: HELLO FROM VEGAS AND GUNS N’ ROSES KICKOFF TONIGHT!

Greetings from Las Vegas. Here for the GnR debut tonight. Had a great dinner with Slash last night and a bunch of mutual friends at the Bootlegger. Thanks to Ron Mancuso for the hospitality. It was great catching up with Slash on the eve of all the Guns mania. We talked about a bunch of stuff, most of which is off the record. But he’s psyched to start this next chapter in GnR history for sure. It certainly won’t be dull! Also ran into Duff and we talked for a bit. Not trying to be cryptic or tease but these guys are friends and when there is news they want to share publicly they will and it will come from them. I can’t and won’t ever say anything that isn’t for public consumption otherwise every relationship I have will be burned. But it was really good catching up and I’m happy for all the guys that this finally kicks off tonight. You will learn something interesting about this weekends shows any minute actually…

Also great seeing Myles Kennedy, Brent Fitz, Todd Kerns and Frank Sidoris of The Conspirators last night. They all have some cool new things in the works while Slash is back with Guns.

If going to GnR this weekend in Vegas doors are at 8, Alice In Chains on around 9, GnR scheduled for around 11. So it will be a late one likely! I am going tonight for sure. I’ll Periscope some for sure if I get signal. Not sure about tomorrow as there are several other shows in town I may also hit. Remember my meet & greet is tomorrow (Saturday) in the Franklin bar in the lobby of Delano hotel (which is part of Mandalay Bay). I’ll be there 4-6P selling and signing my books, having some drinks, playing rock and saying hi. It is free to get in. Hope to see everyone tomorrow here in Vegas!

AEROSMITH FRONTMAN STEVEN TYLER SAID THE BAND “WILL PROBABLY” DO A FAREWELL TOUR NEXT YEAR

Andy Greene of Rolling Stone reports:

Aerosmith are on a brief hiatus now as Steven Tyler gears up to promote his upcoming country album, but when they reappear next year, it might be to say goodbye. “I’m doing 30 [solo] shows from May until August,” Tyler tells Rolling Stone. “And then in 2017 we go out with Aerosmith. We’re probably doing a farewell tour. Look, there’s two bands that still have the original members, us and the Stones. I’m grateful for that. Whether we do a farewell tour or go into the studio and do another record, I’m just excited about it.”

The comments echo what Aerosmith guitarist Brad Whitford said on Eddie Trunk’s podcast in December. “We are actually talking about that — about actually putting together a sort of wind-down tour which we would call the Farewell Tour,” he said. “I guess it’s just because of our age. You know, something’s gonna happen. It’s just inevitable that somebody’s not gonna be able to do it anymore. So it would be very nice to take a nice long bow and say thank you and … put it to bed kind of gracefully.”

In recent news, Steven Tyler announced that he will be playing a benefit show at New York’s Lincoln Center on May 2nd. Read all about this special performance, here.

COMEDIAN JIM BREUER ANNOUNCES DEBUT LP, “SONGS FROM THE GARAGE”, OUT MAY 27TH

Accomplished comedian Jim Breuer understands that comedy and heavy music have long made for great bedfellows. On his first musical full-length, Songs From The Garage, Breuer delivers both in his inimitable style with longtime backing band The Loud & Rowdy. Announced today via Rolling Stone, the album is set for release May 27th through Metal Blade Records. With the support of special guests such as Brian Johnson (AC/DC) who provides vocals on two tracks and producer/guitarist Rob Caggiano (Anthrax, Volbeat), Breuer has created a record that is pure, unadulterated fun while remaining true to his rock sensibilities.

Breuer says, “Going into the record the music had to be killer and have great hooks, that was most important, and I wanted to balance that with something that’s funny. I wanted to bring the smile back to hard rock that has a nice punch to it.” From crunchy opening romp “Thrash” through the swaggering “Who’s Better Than Us?!” to the gloriously deranged excitement suffusing “Sugar Rush”, his exuberance is infectious, and he challenges you to keep your ass from shaking and the corners of your mouth twitching while it thunders from the speakers.

Listen to the lead single Be a Dick 2nite below.

Backing Breuer up is The Loud & Rowdy with Mike Tichy on drums, Joe Vigliotti on bass, and Metal Mike on guitar. Initially known as the Jim Breuer Band, without even having a record under their belt it did not take long to turn a lot of heads. After finding themselves on massive festival stages, the band headed into three different studios to record – Metrosonic Studios Brooklyn, Clear Track Studios, and Sonic Debris Recording Studio. With Rob Caggiano (Anthrax, Volbeat) on production and guitar duties, the album was filled with eleven musically badass tracks featuring lyrics that are not only funny but also relatable, reflecting Breuer’s position in life, “A dad with three kids who loves family life yet is still a metalhead at heart.”

The inspiration for all of this comes from Breuer’s adolescent immersion in the world of heavy music, falling in love with Judas Priest and AC/DC, alongside the likes of The Scorpions, Ozzy Osbourne, Metallica, and Van Halen. The fire to start a band was soon lit under him, though he wouldn’t begin his musical career until he was older. Having finally made the album that has been burning to get out of him since his teens, Breuer couldn’t be happier with the result. Though he has fulfilled one rock and roll dream with its completion, it certainly does not mean he’s about to kick back and leave it at that. “I plan on making great, funny videos for every song and have videos up during the concerts. I want pure entertainment when you come see this live, and now my rock and roll dream is to play this not only here in America, but anywhere else in the world that will accept it! I’m taking it one day at a time, living the dream.”

Songs From The Garage track-listing

1. Thrash
2. Raising Teenage Girls
3. Old School
4. Be a D**k 2nite
5. My Rock n Roll Dream *
6. Mr. Rock n Roll *
7. Who’s Better Than Us?!
8. Family Warrior
9. Sugar Rush
10. Wannabe
11. The Unexplained

KISS’ GENE SIMMONS ON USING ACE AND PETER’S MAKEUP ON OTHER MUSICIANS, “WHY WOULDN’T WE USE THE CLASSIC MAKEUP? WE OWN IT”

Kory Grow of Rolling Stone reports:

For over a decade, KISS’ Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer have both worn makeup associated with the band’s founding guitarist and drummer, respectively. Although the move has sparked some controversy among fans, singer-bassist Gene Simmons tells Rolling Stone it doesn’t bother him.

“Why wouldn’t we use the classic makeup?” he says. “We own it.”

The subject came up during an interview regarding the 40th anniversary of the band’s Destroyer album, when Simmons bemoaned founding guitarist Ace Frehley and drummer Peter Criss’ acrimonious departures from the group within its first decade.

“The saddest thing of all is here we are, top of Mt. Olympus with all this cool stuff happening, really enjoying ourselves, the fans are thrilled, and nobody ever holds up a sign, ‘Where’s Ace and Peter?'” he says. “Anybody that’s in a band goes, ‘Oh, they can’t exist without me.’ They are sadly mistaken. Whether you’re AC/DC or Van Halen or anybody, they can actually not only exist without you. Even if you’re the lead singer, they can actually get twice as big.”

“Even if you’re in Genesis: ‘Oh, they can never do it without Peter Gabriel.’ Oh, sure they can,” he continues. “In fact, we’ll get a guy who doesn’t have any personality and doesn’t put on masks or anything and just sings songs, and they’ll play stadiums. And Peter Gabriel, with all of the great masks and the things, never played that.”

The band had previously encouraged band members who joined in the early Eighties to create new personas – guitarist Vinnie Vincent became the Ankh Warrior and drummer Eric Carr was the Fox – but after the band decided to “unmask” Simmons, the musician says the band decided new personas were not valid. So, when Frehley and Criss departed the band’s reunion tour in 2002 and 2004, respectively, the group – which owns rights to the makeup – bequeathed it unto Thayer and Singer.

“In retrospect, it was the right decision,” Simmons says. “There’s always going to be five percent or 10 percent of people who were there at the beginning who will complain about anything. And listen, I think that’s valid from their point of view. But people get onto a train at different times.

“If you go to see the Stones live today and poke the guy next to you and say, ‘Ron Wood, he’s not Brian Jones,’ the guy says, ‘Who the f–k is that?’ He wouldn’t have a clue what you were talking about. He came into the Stones 10, 20, 30 years after you did.”

Rolling Stone reported in 2014 that Peter Criss relinquished the rights to his character when he left the band. “I’m pissed at myself that my makeup slipped through my hands,” he said. “That’s my cross that I bear.” Frehley said he licensed his and would get it back, though singer-guitarist Paul Stanley called that notion a “fantasy.”
