GUITARIST ACE FREHLEY SAYS WORKING WITH HIS FORMER KISS BANDMATE, PAUL STANLEY, ON HIS COVERS ALBUM WAS, “A LOT OF FUN”

As previously reported, KISS frontman Paul Stanley appeared on his former bandmate, Ace Frehley’s covers album, Origins, Vol. 1. Stanley sings, and appears in the video of Free’s, Fire and Water.

Todd Van Luling of the Huffington Post caught up with Frehley, who was promoting his upcoming October performance at Rock Carnival in New Jersey, to discuss the reunion. Portions of the article appear below.

Frehley was happy that his partnership with Stanley made so many headlines. The two even got along more or less. “We’re both professionals and seasoned professionals at that, so the whole process [was] really painless and a lot of fun,” said Frehley. “I just said, ‘Bring a couple different outfits, I’m going to bring a couple different outfits.’ But you know, we’re usually on the same page.”

Of course, the reunion was still unexpected for Frehley. “I was really surprised how receptive Paul was,” admitted Frehley. “How great the process was and fun and just a pleasure working with him again…”

…“Well, [the founding KISS members are] not sort of brothers, they are brothers in rock ‘n’ roll,” said Frehley of how he still has love for his former band. “Me, Paul, Peter and Gene started something really special that’s endured to this day. Even though I’m not playing with the band at this time, it’s …” Frehley paused for a laugh and then continued, “It’s a rock n’ roll circus.”

AC/DC BASSIST CLIFF WILLIAMS HINTS AT RETIREMENT

AC/DC bassist Cliff Willams hints that he may retire after the band’s current, Rock Or Bust, tour ends.

Williams tells Gulfshore Life “It’s been what I’ve known for the past 40 years, but after this tour I’m backing off of touring and recording. Losing [guitarist] Malcolm [Young], the thing with [drummer] Phil [Rudd] and now with [singer] Brian [Johnson], it’s a changed animal. I feel in my gut it’s the right thing.”

“When you start out, you kind of hope for success,” Williams says. “That’s what you are working for. But you never really know. It’s been surreal, really.

KISS FRONTMAN PAUL STANLEY ON RECORDING A NEW ALBUM, “IT’S ONLY WORTH DOING IT IF, ARTISTICALLY, YOU WANT TO DO IT”

KISS frontman Paul Stanley thinks the band should make another album – even though he admits fans are “not interested” in new material.

He says the follow-up to 2012’s Monster would only be worth making if the band felt a creative desire to do so – as fans simply tolerate new material from classic rock bands rather than anticipate it.

Stanley tells Miles Schuman, “It’s only worth doing it if, artistically, you want to do it. Every time we finish an album, I kind of go, ‘Well, that’s it.’ When we did Sonic Boom, it was because the band was so good that I just thought to not capture the band and do new material would be a shame. But once we did Sonic Boom, I said, ‘Well, we’ve made the point.’ Then, a few years later, it was, like, ‘Wow, why don’t we dig deeper and get a little closer to the roots and the people that we loved and kind of do something else,’ so we did that, and then I said, ‘We’re done.’ Lately I’ve been thinking, yeah, we should do another. But there’s no secret that when anybody who’s considered classic or of our generation does a new album, most people are not interested in hearing that stuff – they tolerate it at best.”

Stanley continues, “If you turn the sound off and you put on a live Rolling Stones concert or a live Paul McCartney concert, I’ll tell you every time they’re playing a new song, because the audience sits down. You tolerate the new song, because you wanna hear Brown Sugar. You tolerate the new song, because you wanna hear She Loves You, Strawberry Fields, whatever it is. So I’m aware that doing an album is more for my own satisfaction than anybody else’s. That being said, if I don’t feel the need to do it, then there’s no need to do it.”

DRUMMER STEVEN ADLER JOINS GUNS N’ ROSES ONSTAGE IN OHIO

Former Guns N’ Roses drummer Steven Adler made a guest appearance with the band in Cincinatti last night (July 6th).

He played two songs – Out Ta Get Me and My Michelle – in his first onstage appearance with Axl Rose and co since 1990.

Frontman Rose introduced him to the Brown Stadium crowd by simply saying, “On the drums, you know this guy, Mr. Steven Adler.” Adler, looking happy and healthy, grinned as he began Out Ta Get Me without comment. After the song Rose said, “I guess we should do another.”

Following My Michelle the singer repeated Adler’s name as he took his bows, hugged guitarist Slash and bassist Duff McKagan, threw his sticks into the crowd and left the stage, as current drummer Frank Ferrer returned.

Rumors had suggested that Adler would make an appearance at Guns N’ Roses’ first reunion show in Los Angeles in April, but he wasn’t present. His 1990 replacement Matt Sorum later reported he hadn’t been approached about any involvement.

The band’s Not In This Lifetime tour continues, with Slash having said at the weekend, “It’s still blowing our minds.”
